Ill call or chat over net with tigerdirect and see what they say. You can type the product number in the us tigerdirect and it brings up a not available screen but it at least has it listed there. Maybee they need to update there site with some persuasion.

Anyone who ordered the acer from pchome can tell me what wall plug would i need? in my country, the plug in the wall is with 3 round holes. like that..
http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/קובץ:Israeli-type-H-plugs-and-socket.jpg
would i need to buy an adapter? -
How about upgrading wireless card, memory, bluetooth and harddrives? You can always just throw back the cpu that came with the machine when need be if you were able to put a new one in there in the first place.
-
@Jeffrey - Thanks, keep us posted. -
I just called tigerdirect, two different customer sales reps. They don't ship to usa no matter what from canada. They said that there is a warehouse in both usa and canada and the canada warehouse has items in stock that arnt in the warehouse in the US so thats why there is a different item list. You can how ever ship an item to someone in canada that you know they said. If someone on the forums was able to take an item and ship it for us it would be just like buying something from them, we could pay them with paypal and have who ever ship it to the states it would be quite easy.
I had both of them request to have it in stock in the US, they said they would email and talk to the product manager. If acer puts a restiction on where they can sell the item though then tigerdirect cant stock the US. -
Hm. I think the 3820TG would already be available in the US if not for restrictions, so I don't see that happening. And sadly, I don't really have any Canadian acquaintances. (If I had, I probably would have jumped on the $700 i3 model from Memory Express. Even after upgrading the CPU to an i5-540M and adding a Bluetooth module, it'd be cheaper than buying an i5 model directly from PChome.)
@Bronsky (or anyone, really) - Sorry for the newb question, but wouldn't importing a 3820TG from PChome also void the warranty?
Edit: And can you clarify what you mean by "upgrading the CPU will likely void your warranty"?
Say, Wayne, care to send me a PM regarding specs + price? -
Except someone in Canada orders it then you pay the GST / PST and won't get it back, plus international shipping.
-
I called another sales rep today for tigerdirect.ca. With tax which is 110 dollars in canadian lol...it comes out to just under 900 dollars shipped. Plus what it would cost to ship to the US. Its probably worth it to for the 9 cell I want so badly but I dont think Im going to spend that much on this laptop, if It had a i5/bluetooth/faster memory and a wwan card already yea but it dont.

Ok, so today i got my acer i3-380M from pchome.tw
It came exactly 1 week after i ordered it and that includes almost 2 days being held at the customs and then being delivered to my house.
It came well packed and no damage. It came with an acer mouse, acer case, 2GB RAM i ordered it with, 500GB external HDD i got as a gift, the Yadi keyboard cover, the american adapter and some porter bag
Now, for the windows part... i read about the windows coming in chinese, but for my surprise, when i turned it on for the first time, windows asked me which lamguage do i wanna use. english or chinese, and letting me know i wont be able to change it later... so just letting everyone know that im using an english version of win 7 home premium without the need for a fresh install
btw, should i update the drivers? or just leave it? -
I would register the unit using the on-line registration program and we would be intersted to know if there is any problem establishing your warranty. Good luck with your unit.
How about a stock 3DM06 score when you get a chance. Am interested in the performance of the 380M. What GPU do you have? The HD 5650 or the HD 6550?
Bronsky -
Congrats mazinya!
-When you ordered from pchome did you have the choice to choose the carrier, UPS/Fedex/etc? What carrier delivered yours?
-Can you please check if the extra 2GB RAM is compatible and has the same speeds?
Nice to hear your package arrived well packaged and with no damage. Another user who ordered from pchome had his package arrive damaged and mentioned of water entering. Though he said his 3820tg was intact and working well. But his story of damage and water scared me off from pchome
Your experience and the fact that it let you choose between Chinese and English language is very encouraging. -
How do i find the online registration program?
I got it with the HD 5650 and will do a 3DM06 when i have the chance and i will post it here -
Well, i also read about that but i still decided to order it and everything got here just well which im happy about. I mean, happens and i think its just bad luck that could also happen to me or anyone else.. i decided to go for it and hope for the best. overall i am very pleased with their service -

Acer/ºê»ù AS3820TG AS3820TG-482G50nss I5 480/500G/ATI 6550-ÌÔ±¦É̳Ç
Very nice, Acer AS3820TG-482G50nss I5 480/500G/ATI 6550 for 5500 yuan = $825 USD.
Only problem is that to purchase from this place you'll have no choice but to use a taobao agent, which can cost up to 10% of transaction. Also, the reviews say that the packaging is poor so that might be an issue.
Would be nice if some brave guy from the forum would order from there to test the experience. -
it asked me to register when i started it for the first time and i did register but i wasnt online when i did that so i dont know...
EDIT: well, it seems my product is registered and next to "Warranty Contract" it says "yes". does it mean it established my warranty? -
I'm interested to know about the warranty to coming from across the seas. Here is an interesting thread about acers warranty( link).

Any idea where someone can probably grab a 8 or 12 cell battery? I received the 6-cell, kind of lame. Checked eBay, but its a no show.
-
Been long-time lurker to these forums and wanted to thank everyone for the valuable information. I am a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Georgia, and I just ordered it from Lu computers to my depot in Virginia which will ship it to Georgia (the country, not the state). Should take around a month, but hopefully everything works out! I paid via credit card, cuz thats the easiest way to order it for me.

The ability to get one with a 6550 is news to me and is tempting but... It's scary.
a)this looks like an e-bay kinda website. but i'm just using google translate.
b)i'm a friggin idiot and cant get the currency conversion right for CDN dollars.
c)i've seen to many episodes of master minds and watched too many documentaries about fake knock off crap from Asian countries to trust it :-(
if there was a chance an american version was coming soon with a 6550 i might hold out. -
b) Google "5500 yuan to cad"?
c) The shows wouldn't get any viewers otherwise.
Anyway, the 6550 is the 5650. If you update the drivers for a 5650, it should have the new label. -
The i5-480M variant is now available at Dangdang.com (apparently China's largest e-tailer? and just went public in the US) and a few Polish sites. I'm not sure what shipping is like, but Dangdang looks like a solid alternative to PChome.
Edit: Nvm, ordinary overseas shipping from Dangdang is 50% of the price. -
Just pulled the trigger on a i3 5650 model from LU. Anything I should do when it first arrives other than clean install/replace keyboard/etc. to make sure its a solid unit with no defects? Reading about the few problems here makes me want to make sure that my computer is perfect with no problems.
-
wow, 50%, they're very understanding and accomodating
Dangdang suits it perfectly.

Thanks for the info as well. -
I have just recieved my 3820tg from NCIX and I should say this thing is very impressive. I have a question, how do you check to see the type of monitor you have? I just wonder if I have the LG or samsung display?

LG Screen -
-
Well, after a year and a bit of lurking in these forums reading from the likes of Bronsky talking about their Acer Timelines, I ended up picking up the AS3820TG from a local Staples in Canada - Acer Aspire 13.3" Laptop, 2.53GHz Intel Core i5-460M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD (AS3820TG-7945)
Since last year, I've been trying to decide between the Acer Timelines (1810, 3810, etc) and the Asus UL/U notebooks for myself, but ended up buying something else instead earlier this year.
I started looking again at the TimeLineX two months ago - I have a feeling my 12-year-old is gonna be very happy this Christmas - he's had a hand-me-down Athlon XP 1700 desktop for a long time
Just want to say thanks to all the great folks here for all the great postings. The next few postings I'll be re-reading will deal with how to get rid of that crappy bilingual Canadian keyboard! -
Is this from NCIX Canada?? It came with a US keyboard not the bilingual one?
-
I just got this laptop (NCIX), and I have to say the screen is very underwhelming(apparently its an LG). I just installed some games, and the colors look very dull and washed out. I had to turn up the saturation to 160% for it to look any decent.
Also, I find that the colors will look good if you were to view the screen from a low angle, but then the top of the screen gets too dark. -
The Acer's main weakness is inconsistent display quality. If you're not satisfied with the display quality, I would seriously consider returning it.
-
As for checking, my only other reference as far as notebooks go is the 13" Macbook Pro I got myself, and I have a feeling the Acer won't look as good next to it. At the store, the display on the Acer unit looked nice enough, so I'm hoping since it's the same batch and all, it'll be good.
Funnily enough, it was all the scare about bad builds and screen quality on last year's models that made me wait and hold out, and getting the Mac instead. I really like the build quality of the Mac, but can't say I share the same enthusiasm for that company's antics... but let's not start an anti-Apple holy war just now -
Anyone else care to give their opinion about the screen? I'm not a hardcore gamer so hopefully this wont affect me..
-
-
I agree with everybody on screen quality issues. I recently oredered 3820tg from NCIX and I also have a 4920tg that I recieved from amazon, I love 3820tg in almost every aspect, except the picture quality. The 3820tg has an LG screen not only the colors looks terrible, but it also gives me headache and vision problems. I really didnt hope to return this unit but I have no choice! When comparing AUO screen that is on 4820tg compare to LG screen that is on 3820TG, it is almost instant to notice difference. There is no indept color in LG screen and colors looks washed out. It might be just this unit that I have but it is such a disappointment for Acer to be inconsistent with the screen quality.
Edit: btw, what are the chances of recieving an LG screen again if I were to do an exchange from NCIX? I am assuming they might have a whole bunch from same batch order and therefore very unlikely? -
Bronsky -
Has anyone else received this issue where if I let my 3820tg idle for a bit, it takes kind of like a minute to load up. What I mean by that is like only having the screen display turn off (not sleep mode) and when I try to go on it again, the mouse is only able to move, but unable to respond to any of my clicks until a good minute or two.
-
Comparing it to the Macbook screen, I was pleasantly surprised that the screen is actually not that bad. Colors on the Acer were not as saturated as on the Mac, but they were by no means washed out. Picture was taken at about 30% brightness level on both notebooks. On the highest setting, the Acer was pretty bright - I didn't include the picture here as the so-so lens on my phone's camera ended up showing it overexposed. [Edit: Just found out that the Mac's screen is a Samsung LTN133AT09. Further googling shows that it's model LP133WX2-TLC1 and manufactured by LG Philips. Yes.. I'm totally confused!]
Overall, the only 'complaint' I have so far with the AS3820TG (other than the bilingual keyboard!) is the fact that there is no mini PCI-E header inside the unit. I was hoping to use a Broadcom Crystal chip on a mini PCI-E card I have to offload HD video processing. Back when I was looking at the AS3810T in these forums last year, I recall that it had the slot. Oh well..

I don't know if anyone has reported this, but Memory Express now has its i3/5650 model for $649.99
eek: last I checked it was $699.99). Great deal for Canadians, but a pity that they don't ship to the US. Might be worth adding to the list on the first page.

Everyone in Canada buys the 3820TG from memoryexpress or NCIX because they hold the 3820TG with the ATi 5650 video card.
