Nah the part number is the LX.PTB02.235, which should be AFAIK unique for every Acer with a different spec.
The "7945" and "5464G50nks" are merely localized spec abbreviations (in North America usually the -#### is used, while in Europe and Asia the -####X##xxx is used).
Still, good luck with this endeavor, I hope I'm wrong. That'd mean there's some great unnoticed 3820TGs still for sale here in Canada.
-
Now showing up on NCIX as well with the same odd combination of the old (known) LX.PTB02.235 part number and the (new) 5464G50nks model number. Note that although the title says -7945, the specifications say AS3820TG-5464G50nks. Who's up for more confusion?
AS3820TG-7945 W7HP EN/FN I5-460M 4G
A quick search for 5464G50nks shows 3820TG's with that suffix as available in multiple regions around Europe with the i5-460m/5650, so here's hoping that the 5464G50nks is the hardware specification, and the LX.PB02.235 number is a misprint.
Note that Acer products seem to carry a different LX.* part number in each region, e.g.
LX.PV102.274 in Switzerland and
LX.PV102.268 in the Netherlands, so I'm hoping that the LX.* number describes hardware/keyboard/OS region as a unit.
I purchased the i3/5650 model from NCIX in mid-December, and it unfortunately arrived with a defective hard drive. (It worked fine for a day or so, and then became interminably, unbelievably slow. System restore took 4 hours to run 25%, then failed.) I'm supposedly getting a replacement through NCIX's RMA, but it's been delayed for quite a while because they couldn't get stock in for a replacement unit. I hope they're going to be shipping me an i5/5650, if that turns out to be the actual spec. -
Oh, I see. Sorry I was mistaken. Hopefully it's the 5650 though, at least something's changed from the time it was still the 5470, and we did get two confirmations from the seller. Well....
Update: for all who are wondering
I got my invoice today. So hopefully shipping info soon!
-
Excellent, even more confirmation on the webpage now. I'm still wondering though, why they didn't list the ATI 5650, the most important thing! in the first place.
"Q Which Video Card comes with this Acer Notebook?
A The graphics card that comes with the Acer Aspire AS3820TG-5464G50nks is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.
Q Does this Acer come with a Bilingual keyboard and which Language of the Operating System comes with it?
A Canadian Acer notebooks are available with bilingual keyboards ONLY. Both English and French character sets reside on the same keyboard and there are minor size differences on some keys ..see:
Beware of the bilingual Canadian keyboard layout | Peter's Useful Crap
There is also a one-time choice of the O/S language to be made by the customer on initial boot-up of the system. Once English or French has been chosen, that O/S language becomes permanent to your computer and there`s no going back to the other language.
Once shipped, these units cannot be returned to us because of the bilingual keyboard, as that is the only version available." -
Sure looks like you guys have found an I5/HD5650 available in North America.

wow.. i should of just wait a week lol
-
I hear ya but regardless I'm very happy with my i3 5650 purchase at the boxing day sale price of $650. I really wanted to buy one from tiger just for the 9-cell but that was somewhere around $780 (or something). add tax and the cost soars. the $650 was an amazing for this thing.
-
I'm waiting for any of you to receive the new version and confirm it has 5650...friend of mine got NCIX rejected for an 5820TG order because they discontinued it, and he's been trying to find a i5/5650 reasonably priced laptop ever since.
-
I will most definitely let you all know which chip is in there, though there have been quite a few confirmations from the seller (I'm confident that it's the 5650). I'm in Wisconsin which is like right below Canada, hopefully that will speed up the process. I have tracking but there's no estimated arrival date (as of yet), which kinda sucks.
-
Haha it's funny that this information is now on the product page at Cendirect...I wonder how many inquiries they've received in the last few days
Can't wait for mine to get here...shipping says item arrived in US so hopefully getting to PA won't take long. I won't be 100% convinced till I have it in my hands... -
Yup. Same here. I had an order placed but it was rejected almost a full business week later. On another note I had a VERY hard time getting my money back too. Many phone calls between NCIX and the bank. Even though the order had been "long" cancelled NCIX wouldn't release the money. I only got it back yesterday after the bank started harassing the NCIX finance department (netlink or something). Very crippling being without $800 for almost a month.
-
So how long will it take Cendirect to sell out of the 76 3820TG units it shows in-stock? My guess is that it won't take long.

-
As of right now, maybe it'll be slow actually. Mainly because they did not specify in product description what GPU it has. If they do, and they put 5650, it'll sell out.
-
They added the HD 5650 at the bottom of the page. They will sell like wildfire.
-
where is this??
-
NCIX also added this same laptop as special order item.
-
Once you get it, could you also post a picture of the keyboard? I'm curious as to how different it will be.
-
How do you order a special item from NCIX (and do you happen to know the price?)? I recently contacted them about the 3820tg they have, but they told me there was no dedicated video card ( </title> <meta name="description" content="NCIX.com is Canada's premier online computer store. Great Technology, Selection and Service on over 100,000 computer products, electronics and games."> <meta name="keywords" content="audio, video, battery, d.
-
The one from NCIX does not have a discrete card according to emails I've had with NCIX customer support. They say that it's just integrated graphics.
Edit: Yeah, I found out the same thing as Ghatid. -

Thanks for the links guys. So, it's just a regular keyboard with tiny subscripts on a few keys and a tiny left shift key.
-
Pretty annoying if you buy the laptop for gaming. Also enter key is wayy to the right and very tall, I like the US layout where its a 1x2 flat wide key instead.
Still, keyboard upgrade to US layout is only gonna blow ~$20, also you get your stock bilingual keyboard as a backup that way. -
Oh wow, I completely missed the extra keys to the right... *facepalm*. Man, I was just about to buy this laptop, but now I don't know anymore. I don't trust any mechanical skill I have to replace the keyboard, and I definitely don't know how to solder.
-
^I'm with you. I have decided I will keep the Bilingual keyboard. I'll have to learn to love it.
-
Try this if your concerned about gaming.
-
That thing looks extremely uncomfortable and useless. But it could actually be the complete opposite.
-
Yeah, I actually almost bought that a while back, but I got the Logitech G15 instead. It's not really just the gaming aspect, though; the extra buttons make the laptop awkward :S. And further squishing a 13 inch laptops keyboard can't be a good idea. I also usually hit the right side of the left shift button, which would be a different button in this laptop. I guess I could adapt and suck it up. But, as a student, I really only have enough money for one laptop and want to make sure that I get the "perfect" one.
To be honest, I would take the i3/5650 English keyboard model over the i5/5650 Bilingual one. -
Don't game at all do ya?
Actually, It's not bad at all. I've had a lot more trouble adjusting to the right side of the keyboard with the odd enter key. As for the left side, I've gamed for years and my pinky is use to sitting on the outer edge of the left-shift so I don't notice it. It's just when I use my right pinky to hunt for keys I get the odd wrong key stroke. nothing that's not easily picked up or corrected afterwards
-
Soldering isn't necessary to replace the keyboard, right, it's just changing the connector cable?
-
Yeah Acer keyboard replacement is ridiculously easy. All you need is a small semi-sharp plastic/metal tool (e.g. a small slot screwdriver), and the keyboard can be popped out in 10 seconds, carefully detach ribbon cable, carefully attach ribbon cable of replacement keyboard, pop new keyboard in, voila.
-
Is ebay the only place to find a US keyboard? (regular, non-backlit)
-
For a reasonable price, yeah.
Buying it from any other site = wasting money, since those e-stores get their stock from China/Hongkong anyhow.
(Acer is a Taiwanese brand, remember, and all its laptops and parts are 100% produced and assembled in Mainland China, like 99% other computer brands nowadays). -
Oh, is soldering only needed if you're doing the backlit keyboard mod? Can you link me to a post about replacing the regular keyboard. Thanks
-
No need, it's pretty intuitive. You'll see some tiny bump tabs along the upper (closer to screen) side of the keyboard, that you lightly push in with the screwdriver-whatever, and the keyboard will pop out (those small bumps are the only thing holding it down) automatically as you do it.
When its fully popped out, you'll immediately notice a big ribbon cable right in the middle on the underside of the keyboard connecting to the motherboard, which can be pulled out without any hassle. That's all there is to it. -
In further detail, I thought there were two small clamps on both sides of the ribbon cable, that had to be popped out, then, repressed after putting in the new keyboard/ribbon cable?
-
My tracking states that the package is in the local delivery office, we're close! I'm thinking it will be Monday, unless they do Saturday deliveries, which I doubt.
-
That's great. But you made the same mistake hendrickson did, not tell us how to install the new keyboard in.
-
Most of the time when dealing with computers..things go in the same way they came out.
Also: I've received my unit from Cendirect, Verdict:
NO 5650, it's the 3820TG- 7945 with the 512MB Radeon HD 5470 I guess i'll have to send this baby back. -
OH GOD NO! How can they be so foolish to put the fake card in the product page!
-
Didn't do their homework
Or DID do their homework and hoped they could get a few sold without us geeks noticing
-
Dang, yeah my friend who wanted to buy that will now instead buy a $2000 thinkpad lol.
-
Well that figures...mine hasn't arrived and I almost ordered a US keyboard today...good thing I waited.
Too good to be true after all...
-
Well PCHome is always an option. They've got i5 units that have been confirmed to contain the 5650. It seems they have some sort of sale, you can get the i5-460 + HD 5650 + 4 GB ram + 640GB HDD for $1040USD(after shipping) I know before it was well over $1100USD.
I would have opted for this if it were an option an week ago. -
If you look around Chinese sites a bit more, there are actually i5 480M / 6550 options around similar prices to the unrefreshed TimelineXs actually. They are probably not on sale though.
I recall seeing the refreshed 5820TG for ~6000 RMB on Taobao, which is sub-$1k. -
I feel your pain..Imagine how happy I'd be if it actually was as advertised.
On a positive note: the build quality of this thing is VERY nice, though it's still going back
. No flex while holding it with one hand, like I experience with my Asus ul80vt, though I'm sure the extra size doesn't help the Asus.
-
I'm kinda skeptical when dealing with Chinese sites, but I've heard confirmations with PCHome, which is why I'd order from them in a second..
Even the first page of this thread says "at your own risk" after listing Taobao
Is the 6550 notably better than the 5650, I remember reading that it was basically an overvolted (hotter) version of the 5650? -
I have friends who work in China so if I want to buy one from there it'd be a breeze. It's tough to say how well international online sales are streamlined for Chinese stores though.
Eh in a way yes, but it's still an upgrade nonetheless. -
I got a 3820TG-7360 today at Visions Electronics in Calgary for $668. They have stores all over Western Canada. You can order online too:
http://www.visions.ca/Catalogue/Category/Details.aspx?categoryId=323&productId=7160
They seem to have plenty of stock and you get air miles too. -

Nice find! A friend was looking to get one with 5650 but was waiting for Cendirect confirmation. But since Cendirect has 5470, this one works great!
