Blueblazer, did they accept to exchange your incoming laptop for the new 6550 one?
-
I actually didn't receive the first one yet so Cendirect told me to just refuse the shipment and they will refund me in full. I'll just have to place another order but this time i'll wait on our fellow members here for confirmation. -
lol same here. I'm not taking any more chances. Hopefully Solomon gives us the good news that it indeed carries the 6550.
-
Hey guys,
I ordered one too from Cendirect, so once I get it I'll let you all know what's up. Pretty sure this is legit though since this model is on a number of sites. Won't be getting it until the weekend though because I'm away for school and I told it to ship to my hometown (not thinking).
Hopefully things work out. It's been toooooooo long (still on a 3.5 year old Hp Verve). Laptop pretty much decides on its own whether or not it wants to work...or boot -
Thanks for this thread. I have some friends and family in canada (I do not know which parts exactly)... but Looks like I'll be ordering from Canada Computers:

Whenever (if ever) they have online ordering available. Hopefully the shipping cost of sending the laptop from my cousin to the usa won't be too expensive. -

STAPLES | BUREAU EN GROS
Only $599.99, or $549.99 with the use of coupons! Pretty damn hot deal if you ask me. I think I'll go for this instead of the refreshed lineup simply because I'm only using it for school and light gaming. Playing Starcraft 2 on a laptop is never a fun thing to do anyways. -

Keyboard on the 3820TG is a good size actually. It's the same size as the one on my 5820TG (mine just has a numberpad to the right). You can always fit a portable mouse + mousepad in your backpack / briefcase.
(Myth debunked) -
So by buying this one instead of the Canada Computers one, I saved $250 including tax. Well worth the diminished gaming performance imo. -
Hey guys,
I'll make this short and sweet.
Just received my laptop from Cendirect. i5 and 6550m confirmed.
This laptop looks so nice! Love the brushed aluminum. Only thing that irks me right now is the damn keyboard (bilingual)...but I'm too much of a tech-newb to know how to replace it. Ah well, this is still awesome!
Thanks for everyone's helpfulness in this thread!
Oh and I might as just put this out there, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out this laptop is DLNA enabled. Now to figure out how to use it with my Galaxy S... -
-
Sweet...looks like Lu Computers has it for less shipping cost and a cash discount with about $40 total savings from Cendirect. I'm gonna see if Cendirect will pricematch. If not I may buy from Lu. Anyone purchase from them before? -
Pricebat sellers
any sellers here that I should avoid?
Not worth waiting for a sandybridge 13" laptop??... this does fit my needs.. aside from the silly 768 vertical pixel rez
Bronsky's now got me worried that I'd be waiting for something thats not going to happen - i.e 13/14" 900p vertical, light powerful etc -
Did you try turning it on with Fn+F3?
-
Is the 6829 model's lid black or silver?
-
Received my laptop from Staples this morning just before 8am... ?!
Anyways I haven't had a chance to unbox it yet. Hopefully it doesn't have the LG monitor.
Btw Canada Computers has lots of Acer 3820 in stock. Get them while they're hot at $730! -
I will be listing mine in the market. Visions does not take returns.
I'd like to get my money back or very close.
I want the new SB Clevo with 485m GTX. LOL -
Any idea when / if the TimelineX will be updated with SB CPU's? an i7-2630QM would be superb in this little machine.
Wonder if they could manage a 45W TDP CPU in there, especially considering the built in GPU, it might be possible. -
. I think I'll return or exchange it.... My eyes are feeling weird.
I think I'm just going to say I don't like the quality of the screen and hopefully get an exchange with a better screen. -
is the LG thing just the Staples/i3 version or throughout the range?
Is it really an issue... an assumed problem?
Don't see companies putting out screens that consumers can't work from without going doolally... -
-
lol, geokilla asked a question to himself.
I think I'll buy the 3820tg from LU, their shipping to USA is almost half of Cendirect's. -
Woops... You didn't see anything
-
Geokilla good luck w/ the exchange, hopefully you get the Samsung and not AUO screen. I doubt the AUO screen is any better, at least with the 5820TG, the AUO screen is the dimmest of the three (LG/Samsung/AUO) available. Overall Samsung screen seems to be the best of the bunch; probably same with 3820TG.
-
Has anyone ever noticed or figured out if there's a way to check which Acer comes with which screen without having to go to Device Manager? I've searched and this thread is "pretty old" and it seems that no one ever figured out if such a method of screen checking exists. -
Isn't there a software...hwinfo32, that displays all the specs including the screen make of the system? -
-
Does the 3820TG-6829 (i5 480m / HD 6550M) have switchable graphics for conserving battery life? Also, what battery does it come with (6 cell, 9 cell?) I haven't been able to find this info anywhere.
-
Thanks. 6 cell battery, but no mention of switchable graphics. Probably means it does not have that feature.
-
-
-
What's going on? No switchable graphics?
Does that mean this one has no integrated intel GPU, just the 6550?
LU Computers -
There are switchable graphics. Majority of them are probably LG screen...
-
-
-
The LG screen requires some tweaking and f.lux to reduce eye strain.
I have mine to a tolerable level. IMO it is the combination of gloss and low contrast that cause problems.
Maybe budget $15 for a matte screen protector too if you have sensitive eyes. I've got one on the way after reading the guide in the forum. -
-
-
Owner here. Has switchable graphic- confirmed
How do I tell what kind of screen is with mine anyways?
I don't really feel too much eye strain or anything. It's kinda blue though...
My one major gripe with the model is the keyboard. Aside from being bilingual, there is quite a bit of flex in the center of the keyboard to the point where I'm consciously trying to type softer to stop it from bending.
Another thing that I'm not used to are sounds are rumbly vibrations every so often under where I rest my left hand. I guess there's something important though? lol on my last HP that section of the laptop just got hot, so I'm not sure which I like better. -
Sounds like a dodgy hard drive vibrating. Keep your stuff backed up / return it for a replacement, replace it on your own, or learn to live with it. Luckily the HD in my 4820TG is quiet and runs cool. Put a 7200rpm hitachi in a Toshiba T235D and man that thing flied. 100MB/s read and write or better.
If you were thinking of treating yourself to a faster 7200RPM drive I'd do it now rather than later. SSD as well. Put the internal drive in a nice $15.00 enclosure and carry it around when you need mass storage. Shame we don't have esata or USB 3.0, that really does speed things up compared to USB 2.0 speeds. -
First page is updated with canadian retailers with the hd 6550 in stock.

Hi, I just registered here. I'm looking to buy this 5820TG and wanted to check a few things before I jump on it. I'm in the US and can't find this particular model anywhere here, but it seems that NCIX ships over here. Is the keyboard layout the same as the US models? I can't really tell from the picture, which seems to be for the wrong model (no 10-key pad as all the other 5820s have). Also, do you still get the same 1 year warranty coverage from Acer?
