As far as I know the best way to store the battery is to store it with about 25% of charge.

And if it was me, I would leave it plugged in. If the power goes out you could lose your work.

    I see, that makes sense.
Keeping at least 25% of the charge of ur battery helps the battery life, true. The reason I don't want to keep the battery on is that it would make this laptop a considerable load to carry around in my backpack, given its gargantuan AC adapter. I fear the only way out would be for me to have two AC adapters, one at home and the other at work, still frustrating.
BTW, thank you all for sharing ideas.

Well, I have a power supply at home, at work, and a spare in the car with an inverter. My previous Acer was no quite so easy on the batteries. Since I now get ~4.5 hours on battery, I rarely need to plug it in in the car. But I just go to work and use the power supply I have there. The battery is about 1 lb, so it's no biggie to me in a 4.7lb laptop. But I can see others noticing the difference a lot more.

Hello! This is my very first post in this forum, despite I've read at least 5000 unique posts in the last 10 days, thanks to the impressions, mod ideas and everything. First I was going to buy a M11x, sad with the screen size since I didn't find a 13.3" with good battery life + class 2 graphics card. Owners lounge convinced me to avoid this mistake. Then I was almost pulling the trigger in the 4820 when I finally found this amazing topic, which made me order the 3820TG-6829 (i5 + 6550m) from Lu Computers.

I paid by paypal because I didn't want to wait so many days to have it shipped... It was 764.99 + 36.74 (shipping to FL, US), = 801.73, and with Paypal conversion it was US$ 833.00. Backlit Keyboard mod on it's way.

The mainly reasons I chose 3820 instead of 4820 are: cooling system, perfect size, don't need ODD, need bluetooth, and I prefer the looking of the keyboard on this chassi.

Thank you all! You really helped me a lot.

I am replacing my vaio VGN-TT250 with this acer. So, you tell me about it.
Looks like they just don't want to make a perfect laptop, ever. My vaio had an elegant design ( and price tag too!) but with its core 2 Duo, SU 9300 and a lagging touchpad never freaking stopped giving me netbook like impression but enjoyed it CD-ROM. When I saw this acer I thought I would sacrifice CD-ROM for performance, but now I see I have even more to sacrifice.

    Lu Computers, Canada.

The final price with shipping was US$833.00 through Paypal, but I really prefer this 13.3-inch than the 4820TG from Amazon.

    ---------------------
Can you guys tell me how long it takes for LU computers (or any of the retailers, for that matter) to ship this laptop to the states? If I were to pick 2 day shipping to VA, what is the typical time from confirmation of order to delivered at my door?

Lu Computers and UPS were REALLY fast.

I chose the cheapest shipping option: UPS Three Day. I put my order on Sunday, they shipped on Monday and I received on Wednesday (today).

Took less than two days to cross the country (I'm in Florida), and according to the tracking system it lost one entire day in the Customs Office.

The only thing I recommend is to pay with Paypal... you spend 16 dollars more, but you don't lose one week with payment confirmation.

How much is everyone buying these for (US purchasers, total with shipping and tax please). EDD went from 2/16 to 4/13 for my 17x R3 and I might consider getting the 3820TG if it can be purchased for cheap (yes yes i know its cheaper than the r3, but relatively speaking ya know?).

    TYIA!

From Lu Computers the total with shipping was US$833.00 and it is tax free.
I don't really think it's cheap, but I really wanted and even reading a lot of posts and viewing some pictures, I'm really impressed with the overall quality.

Everything sealed and no dents at all. Here are the pictures (this is the reason that I LOL'd when I said "packaging"):

This is not funny: The laptop is sent to Acer America in Illinois (US) before Canada. Why don't they just keep it here???

I purchased mine from LUComputers recently as well and unfortunately there was a problem with one of the fans. It kept hitting the inside of the case when anything cpu intensive was running. When I contacted them, they told me no returns, exchanges, or repairs and that my only option was to go through Acer. So please keep in mind that if you order from them, you'll have only Acer's warranty if something goes wrong. I contacted them less than 5 days after ordering it, btw.

If you buy from LU Computers in Canada how do you get USA Acer warranty?

btw, how would I know if the fan is hitting the case? I will hear a horrible sound?

No ... it's a North American warranty. USA and Canada are in the same Region, I think it's called the Pan American region. You can register a Canadian unit to a US address and it is accepted at the Temple Texas repair facility. I've done both.

Acer has an International Travelers Warranty but not a worldwide warranty.

Hey guys. really looking at one of these if the new MBP 13in thats due turns out to be a dud.

If I roder one what are the most common things to look for? The most heavy work it will be used for is SC2 or Warcraft.

The one with the i5-480 will play SC2 maxed out at native resolution above 35fps.

Bronsky, how was your experience when you had to have it warrantied?

Pan American Region includes North, Central and South America plus the Caribbean.
It would be great since I'll bring my laptop to Brazil in August, but not. =/

I used the "fix my Acer" method on the support web site. I had an RMA immediately and sent my unit to temple texas via USPS priority. It left on a Friday and was there on Monday. It was back in my hands in 2 weeks completely repaired. I was quite pleased with the result. As it turns out, it was a shorted Cam that was causing the problem but Acer changed all of the parts they had to remove to get at it (not the display). New motherboard and all.

I kept getting a driver that would not install on boot-up. It was driving me crazy. I tried everything I knew to diagnose it but had no luck. I eventually guessed that it was a hardware problem but could not isolate the device. I kept thinking it was a bad printer driver.

I wound-up sending it in. I did notice some heat around the cam but never gave it a second thought

Here was what I was getting in my device manager.

Yea, LU cheapest shipping is 35. But it's awesome, comes super fast. LU ships fast, and UPS delivers fast (less than 3 days). Mine was well packaged and safe. You cannot send it back under any circumstances, they don't accept refunds, returns, etc.

LU says that they ship with insurance... If it's damaged you are covered. I think the only problem is if we don't like the product and want to return it.

I tested out the demo with fraps and it ran like a champ. FPS was around 32-33, so without it in the background, 35.

LUComputers is now showing out of stock, btw.

Dang, that's made me a believer, since you used FRAPS at the same time. All you really needed to do was hit ctrl+alt+F to get FPS to show in the top-left corner.

I'm not sure if anyone answered this before, but what's the cheapest place to buy it for California residents?

LU Computers continues to bump up the price, so it seems that CenDirect is the best buy at $811 incl. shipping.

$811 total isn't that bad. Is that the price to California? I'm most worried about sales tax, etc.

You don't have to pay sales tax because the store is not from California.
The only problem is that 811 is the final price in Canadian Dollars, which means something like 840 US Dollars. Repair that it's out of stock and it's going to take some days to ship to you.

Lu Computers are selling so well that they raised the price again. I hate this way of doing business.

The stores that don't ship to the US still charge around $700 for the very same laptop.

I think Acer should control the prices of the laptops by putting an official price tag on their system (or cut them off), those greedy retailers are over pricing their system because greed knows no bounds.

When I bought mine, I compared 4820TG and 3820TG as having the same price ($800), and preferred 3820TG because of cooling system at cost of the optical drive.
Now that 4820TG is US$729.00 with free shipping, I really regret of paying US$833.00 in my 3820TG. I like it more, but the difference is too much.

What is worse is to know that these laptops come from China to Acer America in the US, before going to Canada.

I've been holding out in hopes that the new MBP may be somewhat decent but now that news says there's no discreet GPU, that's out of the choice. Either that or the new Sony SA or SB, but SA seems to be no better in terms of GPU so not worth the money, and same with SB.

But now, Lu raised their prices twice so I don't really want to buy from them, any other choices other than Cen and Ncix?

I think it would be smarter to order through NCIX. At least if your computer ends up arriving with a problem or isn't working you can have it exchanged rather than only having the option to send it to Acer for repair. I sent mine in to be exchanged or fixed, btw and it sucks.. might be another 2 weeks before I can get it back. Main rig down due to Intel's F up too. Least I have a smart phone..

It's probably worth about $600. It has an upgraded drive and ram upgrade. It might also have some warranty left if it was registered. $899? You can get a new one for that, with the momentus drive and ram upgrade.
