Been watching the stock drop all week, so I made the move for the 3820tg today. Even compared to the new offerings from Acer, Alienware, and Lenovo, the 3820tg still seems like the most powerful 13" option out there.

Yay! just made a purchase from ncix for the 3820tg! Seeing as prices are going up for these laptops I decided to jump on it. Hopefully everything comes in working order. Also purchased a us keyboard. As for warranty do I just register online? No need to call right?

You can register on-line. No problem.

It just occurred to me the other day that, if they release the 3830TG only in Canada and not the US, it'll probably come with a bi-lingual keyboard and there may not be a replacement US KB to swap for quite some time, since it looks like a new design. We were lucky enough to be able to retrofit the 3810T KB in the 3820TG. It does not look like the current KB will fit on the 3830T.

Acer should just make sure it releases the 3820TG in the US, even the I7 version.

Let's hope the 3830 and 4830 share a keyboard like the 3820 and 4820 do and / or that they release at least the 3830T in US then the keyboard will definitely be available.

It took Acer almost 6 months from release of the 4820TG and 3820T to stock a 3820/4820 replacement KB in the US. :( I guess you can import one from China when they become available over there or from Germany.

1st post here long time lurker

My trusty m1210 up and died on me so I have decided to replace it with a 3820tg after stalking this thread for some time now. Ended up getting it from NCIX in Canada ( Michigan resident). Paid $765 US including shipping and insurance, and for those worried about the lack of a credit card option you can pay with a credit card through paypal which is what I did. Will update when I receive the 3820tg. Very excited!

Figures I get it a few days before they drop the price. It just now shipped out, but shipped out from BC and not the ON warehouse (and I live in Michigan). When I got my tracking number I figured it had shipped from the ON warehouse because there were still some in stock there but apparently not.

They are Fr/Eng bilingual KBs. That should be no problem if you're from Louisiana.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! :D

Actually, you can swap a US KB in there without a lot of trouble. The first page of the 3820TG thread has a link to the EBay KB I used. I think these will only work with the 3820TG. The new 3830TG, which should be arriving in Canada by the end of May or early June, uses a different keyboard that will likely not ba available for a few months.

Thanks. My laptop repair skills are far better than my French, so I would likely replace the keyboard. I have one more question, though. All of the USA TimelineX laptops claim an 8-hour battery life, but I have noticed that some of the Canadian ones make no claim. Do the faster processors degrade the battery life?

You might get 8 hour battery life in an alternatate universe or on the Moon, but realistically, you can expect 5-6 hours at reduced brightness. The I5's use slightly more power than the I3 but not enough to be significant in terms of battery life. If you run the CPU and GPU OC'd and over volted, it might make a difference. The Canadian models are no different than any of the other 3820TGs.

Hope you're enjoying jazzfest. I haven't made it for quite a few years.

Great idea, but then you have to defend your 3820TG from these guys

Well, I ordered the 3820tg from NCIX and it just didn't feel right to get such a nice laptop without an SSD, so I ordered a 120gb Intel 320 Series drive. I hope FedEx gets it all the way down here soon, but I really don't have very high expectations.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get my hands on one of those sweet $699.99CAD 3820TGs from NCIX, so it's back to waiting for reviews on the 3/4830TG, look for alternatives to those, or try and fetch an i7 3820TG from Singapore. Speaking of the latter, do you have links for it? I was not able to find anything on that matter.

I was thinking about selling it but I just can't. Now I've bought a Corsair Force SSD and didn't even install it, cause there was a one minute deal at Newegg and I've bought a 256GB SSD for incredibles $189... The street price is $499!

Some days ago I've bought 2x4GB G.Skill 1333 for only $42.98 at the egg too. I love how it was worth to wait for these upgrades. And I will happily continue with my 3820TG instead of a 3830...

There was some discussion in the 3830/4830/5830 TG thread the other day about where to still find a 3820TG.

    Here's the link.

At the time Computeruniverse had some 6550 and even some 5650 models that were returned and being resold. They may have sold them by now. I can't tell anymore because the search URL is borked.

Computeruniverse won't ship to the US or Canada anymore. I got one of the only ones they shipped to the US this time last year. PCHOme in Taiwan still has them. WHen we were importing them, Acer US was still allowing foreign units to be registered and would recognize the warranty but someone had a problem with a unit recently. Maybe ACer US is finally putting their foot down.
