Maybe that's why some versions get discontinued while others don't.
I haven't seen this problem mentioned by anyone with European version for example.
Keep us posted on what happens with the replacement process. Thanks.

They will replace it with the next gen replacement.
I got a Aspire 4520G replaced with a Aspire 4530 (Not necessarily an Upgrade).

That would be unlucky- Aspire 5741G packs nVidia GT330M- definitely not an upgrade of HD5650. Hopefully he simply gets working 5740G.

i would agree, definately unlucky if he was to get the next gen as replacement....it would be different if it was a higher model ati card. unfortunately rajesh didn't look as though to have tried the driver update which seemed to fix every1's issue around pink dots. I would be definately interested to see how the "upgraded" version benches though XD
as i think about it more and more, looks like the oem nvidia salesrep gave a better presentation than the ati rep when sitting at the acer head table
that or the poor driver support killed ati's rep and credibilty with acer

i tried with the drivers also but the same problem persists .
however i have used an old manufactured same model which didn't had any problems .

the service center guy told me i will get the same model .
i got a call from acer sales saying that there will be two more weeks dealy in that and i will get a standby laptop till then of lower config .

if they try to replace my laptop with 5741g i will refuse it as my original laptop 5740g was only 2 days old as it went to service center , and i optd for hm55 chipset and 5650 not pm55 chipset and nvidia as in 5741g .
i will ask for full money back , thats it .
its just plain bull to buy a dead laptop and get a lower config laptop from acer . plain bull !

    UPDATE

they have provided me acer 5740g (core i3 and hd 5470) as a standby laptop until the core i5 and hd 5650 comes in stock . they have told me to wait 2 more weeks .

the standby laptop is itself new (i mean service center guy opened seal in front of me).

i got a card slip saying i have been provided with a standby laptop.
service center guy told me the acer head office will provide them laptop which he will give me but i will have to wait , and that wait is "undetermined"

I live in Europe and I have (had) the same problems (strange pink blocks on the screen). Since I updated the Bios (1.16) and the Ati driver (10.3) I did not have any problems.

Another problem I had until now is crashes. When on the internet the screen freezes and then the screen goes black. I can only turn the pc off and on again.

After the above updates this has not happened. But it does not mean that it is fixed. Sometimes a few days nothing and then crash.

Nothing much to see in the system logs.

    Acer 5740G, ATI HD5470, i5 430M, 4GB, 640GB, Win7(64)

Could anyone here who owns 5740g try to cut HD (720p or 1080p) video? I'm curious if that Core i5 can handle it. Thanks ;)

Well in your case did it happen with all the games or just one? If all, then surely it has to be a hardware problem. Did you try to update your drivers? Maybe it could have saved you the trouble of replacement as it is a generic kind of problem with many owners claiming to have got fixed after the update. I've been playing games, surfing the net and have not faced any such problem since I uninstalled L4D (also, I am using the factory supplied drivers).

Where is your acer service centre located? Bangalore or delhi or mumbai? You are getting a good customer support it seems.

Hi all. I just bought a 7740G-6364 and am having troubles with ghosting. At startup there is a vertical red double line on the righthand of the screen while windows is loading that goes away and a green line on the left hand that is present except where graphics block it (ie, an bitmap image will not have the line cross it). Everywhere else there is red ghosting like I used to get when the AA settings were set too high way back in the day. Video of any kind is impossible to watch. CNN.com is impossible to read.

I followed the advice in this thread and tried to install the 10.3 Catalyst but could only get the 10.4 Catalyst to work. This should be better as its newer right? I also updated the BIOS to 1.16. Result? ...same as when I fired it up 12 hours ago. I've already sent the email off for the RMA, but I'd rather get it fixed as I havn't had a computer of any kind in a month since my last laptop bit the dust. Any thoughts on what else I can try?

Newegg denied an RMA until Acer does product support. Acer make me reset the computer to the factory hard drive flash. Well Its just the same as it was naturally. I'm waiting for everything to finish installing and setting up to try catalyst again.
