As far as i know there is no problem of upgrading to 9600M GS on the 5920G and the 6920G, the problem is with 9600M GT which works only on xx25 and xx30. People suspect it's some kind of bios lock thing, but no successfully modded bios up to now

i realise that now. but i thought i bought a 9600m gt but it was a gs. i should be  but if gt will not work all is not lost. gs with ddr3 is quite a lot faster than 9500 with ddr2 and it is very easy swap. anyone know how to solve the temp sensor (or lack of) problem?

Not yet, but the fact that you were able to swap means that I can put partial compatibility with the 8920G in the MXM topic!
Thanks for being a brave soul, kuhanchi!

Hi, all this is my 2nd ever post and I have just installed a 9600m GT - 512 mb DDR3 card into my 6920g. I have got it running great and have just run a 3DMark 06 test yoday and achieved 6127 without any OC.
The only problem is that I can not see any initial screen details until windows 7 loads and starts and also had to use an HDMI cable to see the screen, can anyone help with this.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

That seems to be the prevailing problem with the 6920G/9600M GT combination - the BIOS and anything before Windows loads isn't viewable on the screen.

    Hi All

This is my first post and I have being following this section and others on the upgradability of the 6920G.

I have since upgraded from t5750 to t9300 succesfully

I have also upgraded my graphics from 9500m GS to 9600m GT.

but , the prevailing problem is still there.....NO POST VIDEO until Windows logon screen.

I have also just updated my 6920G bios to 1.16 , so I can only hope the BIOS is updated further in months to come.

Anyways , the graphics upgrade was simples. Just make sure you have a hmdi cable to connect to your TV to initially install either Win drivers or download teh latest ones from Nvidia.

Over an out til next time :p

    This has been helpful :)

I just stuck a 9600m gt in my 8920G. As stated i can't see and boot screens etc... but it did go straight into windows and i downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia driver easily.

The problem is I don't have any sound.

Anyone got an idea how I can fix this?

    thanks :)

Edit: I just installed the realtek driver from the acer website. Sorted! :)

You're the second 8920G user to upgrade to the 9600M GT. If you can provide pics, I can add you to the Acer MXM Thread.
Did you need to connect to an external display to install the Nvidia driver?
