UPDATE: The Acer Aspire 1430 is going to replace the 1410 models and the 1830 will replace the 1810.

There is another thread started to discuss the 1830: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=468120
You can discuss the 1430 here if you like.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This post has been updated to give an overview of the Acer Aspire AS1410 and AS1810 Timeline offerings.

Acer Aspire AS1410 US Configurations Subject to change!

There are three basic configurations. The first is actually a dual-core processor. The other two are single cores. (I believe the third offering will be phased out.)

    1. AS1410: Intel® Celeron® Processor SU2300 (1MB L2 Cache, 1.20GHz, 800MHz FSB).

    2. AS1410: Intel® Celeron® M Processor ULV 743 (1MB L2 cache, 1.30GHz, 800MHz FSB).

    3. AS1410: Intel® Core™2 Solo Processor SU3500 (3MB L2 cache, 1.40GHz, 800MHz FSB). This model was originally sold outside of the US as the 1810T. Here is the AS1410/1810T thread.

Acer Aspire AS1810 US Configurations Subject to change!

    There are two basic configurations.

    1. AS1810TZ: Intel® Pentium® Processor SU4100 (2MB L2 cache, 1.30GHz, 800MHz FSB).

    2. AS1810T: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB) Not to be confused with the original single-core 1810T.

Acer also offers a tablet version of this model ( Here is the 1810 tablet thread.) and a 11.6 "netbook" called the Aspire 751h.

EDIT: Steroduede made this nice table showing the features of the 3 dual-core processors.
EDIT: k9hydr4 made a nice little comparison of the processor benchmarks. I updated the the list and posted it below. Keep in mind that the benchmarks are constantly changing, but this nicely shows how the processors stack up.

And now, for the price.... :)

The other thread is almost 3000 post long! It's nearly impossible to find information in there. In about two weeks the whole processor discussion in the other thread will be buried and you'll never figure out where the 1410 thread ends and the 1810(TZ) thread ends.

Besides, some of us still own 1410s and that thread would serve us better if it focused on that machine.

I have the 1410 in black, but I think I like the red better than the blue.

I want to see the price on these as well. I love the AS1410 so far, but would like better HD/full screen video and longer battery life. Depending on the price I might spring for one of these or the ASUS UL20a. The ASUS might not get HDMI, but if they can get 12 hours out of the battery it might be just what I'm looking for.

Super! I've finally found my EEE 1000HE replacement. I just hope this thing hits retail before I leave for a trip later in November...

I was just _this_ close to ordering a discounted 1410 a few days ago, but something told me to wait a bit longer. Now I just hope that the pricing stays in the <$500 neighborhood.

Forgive me for being dense but I don't see this for sale at any US retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Comp USA). As I posted in the previous thread I am on a tight travel deadline and need to have this shipped and delivered by Oct. 23rd or so. Did I miss an actual retailer already selling the 1810TZ?

I suggest the tablets get their own thread too.

You are not at all dense :) In the 1810 specs. at the Acer's website, they say it has Win7 loaded (Vista is not at all mentioned). So it'll only ship on the 21st or 22nd October, to conform to the Win7 official release dates :(

There is an Asus rep. at the UL series discussions on Amazon who states that said that the Asus will ship on the 21st from Amazon.

So the earliest real availability (shipping or retail store) is likely to be 21st October -- its just that Acer announced that the product will be available and its specs.

Yup, for $500 or less, I'm buying one ASAP (either CPU). For $500-$550, I'll still seriously consider getting one but probably only if I can get the full SU7300 package. Over $550, I'll just get a cheap leftover 1410 and add in BT myself and tweak it for as much performance as possible from the single core.

I wonder if the currently-discounted 1410 is the end of the road for that particular config & price point or if we'll see a mildly refreshed SU3500 model packing Windows 7 and/or BT or a 320gb HDD. Someone posted elsewhere that the BJ's Warehouse "instant rebate" offer for the current 1410 is good through the end of the year...

In some countries, Acer sells the ~1410~ with an SU2300 CPU,
which is a dual core. (notice the SU2700 was single core)
See page 2 of PDF at Acer Taiwan.
And its not a Timeline either.

Should "dual core" & "Timeline" be removed from the title of this thread,
and the CPU names SU2300, SU4100, SU7300 added to the 11.6" description?

Must not let this thread die. Keep these on the main page folkds. Now all I need to do is decide whether I want a cool tablet that I can use as an eReader or a regular netbook/notebook in the 1810TZ. Either way I am ready to trade in my Acer 1410 at the end of this month.

And I'm trying to decide between the diamond black and the sapphire blue. Kinda glad that Acer took the Red color off the table because that makes the choice easier for me ;)

Wishing/wondering if any have pictures of the blue and the black side by side (same lighting conditions). Photos on the web show quite a degree of variation otherwise...

As much as I would like better video out of my AS1410, I'm not paying a premium for the dual core unless I am going to get at least 8 hours of battery life. I think the 1810 will get 6 hours under normal use. If I can get one for around $500, I'm in. If it's more, I want more battery. The claimed 12hrs that the Asus UL20a claims is looking good, but it looks like it might not even have bluetooth or HDMI.

When it's all said and done, I may just keep the AS1410.

I have the 5600 mAh for my 1410 and I think you could get close to 8 hours depending on usage. I have done just about every tweak on mine and I can definitely go all day with light usage but I don't think I could play a video for 8 hours or anything.

BTW, for the person asking about Blue or Black I really LOVE the blue. It is a nice dark share and looks really good. Almost like a metallic deep blue. I definitely plan to go with Blue again.

I'm using powetop in Linux with the screen set low (the screen is nice and bright anyway). Out of the box Linux isn't very battery friendly, but powertop tweaks the power settings. In Vista I'm using the lowest power setting with no other tweaks. In either case, I'm only getting 4 hours out of my claimed 6 hour battery with the AS1410. I don't think I've even reached 5 hours under either OS, so I'm planning for 2 hours less than claimed battery for my use.

Here's what the Notebookcheck review had about the battery life on the TZ. The test unit was using Vista and it's actually a 63Wh battery not a 56Wh. (I think that was just a slip on their part):

Yes, and they are fingerprint magnets!

I do like the glossy blue top a lot, but not the non-glossy palm rest and keyboard trim. I think black looks better on those pieces. Either one is sharp even though the whole glossy top is stupid in reality. Oh, well that's what they think will sell best, so that's what we get. lol

Judging by past Acer history, it may unfortunately be to either remove the Bluetooth or neuter the battery capacity. :( I did a thorough search online last night and didn't find a single e-tailer (shady or otherwise) with the new models SKU'd up yet for a pending release. So I would sorta doubt that these things would be available on Win 7 launch day anyway, seeing as how there are still apparently sufficient 1410 stocks in the channel for the time being.
