Hey guys, haven't posted on NBR in quite a while (Last laptop I owned was back over the summer), and I'm looking at buying a Timeline 1810t-8638, but I cant find it in stock anywhere. Are there any places you guys recommend I look? I've got Newegg and Amazon sending me an email when they get back in stock, but that might take more time than it's worth. I'm looking to buy the notebook sometime before the first week of January.
Thanks

After all that, I finally chose to buy the 1410 (the lovely Ruby Red) and upgrade it to the max. Some folks have said that they are happy with the 2GB of RAM that comes with the unit, but after installing the max of 4GB last night, it's like she is on steroids by comparison.
I'm just getting ready to put a larger 7200rpm HD and my next task is to buy the bluetooth module and install it. Kermee........any suggestions regarding that install? Are you happy with your results?
If you're set on the 1810T, then I would suggest NewEgg, TigerDirect, J&R, B&H, Amazon.......and don't forget Fry's. B&H has a terrific return policy over the holidays, and as you know, no shipping and no tax for CT. Also, no matter where you buy, be sure to check out Bing cashback for an even better deal.
Best....... -
Did you install 64 bit Win 7 or are you running 32 Bit Vista?
I just got a 32 bit Vista 1410-8913 (Ruby Red), and I'm considering upgrading to 4 GB of 800 Ghz of Ram.

I need some help. I noticed that the color calibration I did on my 1410 doesn't stay (I'm using Windows 7's calibration). Everytime I turn off or resume from sleep my gamma setting resets.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but it looks like Acer is releasing an even more powerful 1810T with the SU9400 processor available in Canada 12/23. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10137547&catid=

I fully intended to add 800Ghz ram, but when I went into B&H to buy it, they persuaded me that it was a waste of money for the 1410 SU2300. So, to more directly answer your question, I bought Two 2GB modules recommended on the Crucial site of the following:
Module Size: 2GB
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
In trying to install the new HD tonight, my first stumbling block was the fragile ribbon cable.......I didn't break it, but neglected to reposition it. Solved that problem, but now I'm still trying to figure out how to clone the old HD onto the new one using Acronis.
If all else fails, will the Acer recovery discs that I originally created restore everything on the new hard drive? The 160GB drive that came in the 1410 is going into an external enclosure as a backup.
Thanks for the help! -
Seems like some Canadian vendors already have the SU9400 in stock at $739 CA ($679 US).
Surprised that some benchmarks place the SU9400 slower than the SU7300. Any ideas?
And what about that 400 GB hard drive? Seems odd.
I would have guessed a 500 GB. -
Hello
I have a 1810TZ and have a question about this case:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RMKITM/ref=oss_T11_product
Can my computer have the battery attatched to it when i use this case?
I mean does it fit? -
hi guys, i've gotten the 1810TZ Olympic Edition. running 2x 2GB RAM on Win7 Home Premium x64.
Installed: BatteryBar v3.3.1, ESET Smart Security antivirus, Acer emPowerment tool.
other apps: Indexing/Sys Restore/Hibernation/Windows Defender are disabled. WiFI/BT are off. LAN/webcam are active (not disabled via Device Mgr).
Settings: Lowest brightness. Cooling set to passive mode. GMA set to DPST & maximum battery life.
After removing all the crapwares (including the trial Office 2007), i noticed that my battery life (reported by Battery Bar) is hovering around 5hr 9min.
i wonder what else can i do to optimize the system? and how did u guys achieve the 6hr+ life?
thx! -
It told me 4:30 while both Windows and RMClock told me 8:30.
After deinstalling BatteryBar suddenly Windows started telling me 4:30 too. Which was incorrect by experience.
I would advise against installing Battery Bar on the Acer 1810Tz.
PS. I moved your post. The Timeline Tweaks thread is for tweaks. -
i have a bad feeling that Acer's emPowerment tool is screwing up the battery reading (by 3rd party app, e.g BatteryBar)?
will remove the Acer utility and see if BatteryBar reported back a proper reading. -
I had the same problem with Battery Bar on a clean install without ePowermanagement.
Battery Bar works fine on my HP DM1. -
FYI - CoreAVC 2.0 (the best HD decoder for playing Blu-ray files in W7MC & WMP12) was just released. Used to cost $15 which was already cheap. The new version is only $12.99 and there is a coupon code through Dec. 26th for $3 off. $9.99 is unbeatable. Just thought everyone should know. I have been waiting months for it so that I can play my blu-ray files on my x64 HTPC machines and it works really well on my 1410.
-
Does batterybar have this issue with as1410 also?
What is everyones battery life with SU2300 on the 1410 battery. Mine is constantly at 4:31 off a fresh charge on powersaver. I updated all drivers and removed realtek sound per the tweaks.. anything else? -
I'm getting 3:41 (Battery Bar) off a fresh charge on my intel duo core su2300 on power save mode!!
Edit: Uninstalled Battery Bar and windows batter meter showing close to 6 hours. lol -
Only if you measure your battery life by hand you'll know how much battery life you get.
You could do it like this:
- install RMclock to get an accurate reading of your battery
- use your computer the way you normally do while using 10% of your battery capacity
- multiply by ten -
still, i'm curious as to what others are getting with their 1410s

k8t,
Just because W7 has built in h.264 decoder doesn't mean you can watch a blu-ray. If fact, W7MC and WMP12 have no native support for blu-ray. They will neither play blu-ray from an external drive nor play an iso of the disk from the hard drive even if it is mounted with a free program like Virtual Clone Drive. You can click on an h.264 file within the disc (which is a pain in the a$$) and play it but you have no control on the audio stream and it is usually not English. So please explain how you are watching Blu-ray movies within W7MC and WMP12? Even the PDVD software that comes with the machine from Acer has no support for Blu-ray. So, please explain. I would love to hear.
Here is a quote from Microsoft themselves,
"As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.
To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs." -
With that said, CoreAVC is still a waste of money since that too doesn't allow Blu-ray playback. So to be more clear, there are free ways to play H.264 encoded videos contained in .mp4, .mkv and some other video containers. One way to play .mp4 videos is through MS WMP, however, that player can't open .mkv files. To play both .mp4 and .mkv files you could use MPC-HC and either use its H.264 decoder or Window 7's built-in one. If you still want to use Microsoft's WMP then you could install the free Haali Media Splitter which enables MS WMP to open .mkv files.
The built-in Windows 7 H.264 decoder and the MPC-HC one make use of the 4500MHD's H.264 video acceleration to offload the decoding from the CPU through DXVA. CoreAVC does not use DXVA so the video is decoded exclusively by the CPU on your Acer 1410. This is another reason why CoreAVC is a waste of money for your Acer compared to decoders that use DXVA. -
I have an Acer 1410-8913 - su3500. When I attach a HDMI 1.3 cable between the PC and my Samsung HDTV I am able to see the picture beautifully on the TV, BUT the audio still comes through the PC rather than the TV.
How can I get BOTH video and audio to play through the TV?
I enjoy listening to iTunes and when I play a HULU movie or TV show I really need the speakers attached to the TV rather than the PC.
Thanks in advance for your insights. -
I'm having the exact same issue with my 751, even after installing the very latest drivers from Intel's site - ver. 5.0.0 and says they were posted 12/18/2009.
Fortunately, my 1410 is NOT having this problem. I posted a thread here AND on the Aspire One forum http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/ and no luck.
Does ANYONE have ANY idea what could be causing this?? It is very, very annoying to say the least.... -

what are AHCI and IDE??
which one should I pick?
any performance or power consumption difference? -
For Windows 7/Vista and Linux, AHCI is preferred because it is "supposed" to be faster. About a year ago, someone benchmarked a bunch of drives and got mixed results. Seems like AHCI was faster on some drives and not others. I think AHCI may use more power though. You can easily change the SATA mode in the BIOS at any time, but I would install under AHCI.
EDIT: I found the article: http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/ahci-vs-ide-–-benchmark-advantage/
Also, it's easy to switch SATA mode in BIOS anytime, but Windows doesn't seem to like it. My Linux install will run either way, but Windows 7 (installed under AHCI mode) will blue screen under IDE mode. I should add that I don't notice a big difference in performance or power usage in Linux with either setting. Power consumption might be slightly lower under IDE mode, but I'm not 100% sure because it's within the same range under both settings. It does seem like it stays towards the lower end of the spectrum under IDE mode though. -

k8t,
You are correct. I wouldn't put it that it is just a licensing problem because as the software goes it is more complicated. However, you are absolutely correct about CoreAVC 2.0 and DXVA. I was hoping that it would allow for it, but it doesn't. Tried it earlier today. I have several other Nvidia Ion machines that do amazing things with CoreAVC which is superior to the Windows codec (due to the excellent CUDA support) but as far as DXVA goes they still haven't added it. I don't care much for solutions that don't work from within WMP12 or W7MC so I don't consider MPC-HC or anything else as decent solutions. However, the new CoreAVC comes with Haali's new splitter which I am sure is available on Haali's site now also. Anyway it works awesome. So, the solution I am using now is that I put a Blu-ray disc in my player (AnyDVD HD takes the encryption off), I rip the main file to a .mkv with MakeMKV, I store it in my Movies library in its own folder, I use My Movies 3 to download the metadata for it, and I can play it from within WMP12 and W7MC via Haali's splitter. I also use AC3Filter to give me the audio exactly as I want it. All of the programs with the exception of AnyDVD HD are free and easy to use. Thanks, hope this helps and clarify everything for everyone. -
Just clicked the setup.exe - should I have installed them manually or uninstalled the old drivers first or something? -

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* 7(exe)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...Mobile+Intel®+4+Series+Express+Chipset+Family
(that's 32 bit) -
It worked meaning that it retains any and all changes you make to color correction properties even after a reboot? And just to be crystal, are you referring to version 15.16.2.1986?
Also, we are talking about the 751, NOT the 1410, right? I know this thread is about the 14/1810, but my graphic issue is with my 751 - my 1410 is just fine & retains changes I make to the display properties.
Thanks!! -
Regarding audio via HDMI as was posted above you need to set it as your default. That being said Windows can be a little buggy about switching the default player. There are times when I switch from headphone output to HDMI or from HDMI to SPDIF that I end up with no audio output at all. I have found that you need to stop whatever audio output you are using (pause the movie), switch the default player, give it a few seconds, right click on the new device and select "Test" to verify that the audio output is working, and lastly take the movie off pause. If this doesn't work I end up having to reboot. Like I said, Windows is a little buggy when it comes to switching default audio players. If Windows had been nice they just would have allowed for multiple audio outputs, but despite the fact that it was repeatedly requested by their test programers they still didn't add the option. And I have yet to find a way in Windows 7 where you can have multiple simultaneous audio outputs.
-
This should be the same for Acer 1410.
I noticed you were talking about the 751, the other person was not. -
Yes, I desperately want to resolve the issue of the graphics drivers NOT retaining their settings on my 751.
I'm running ver. 8.15.10.1986 on my 1410 and it both gives a lower gamma than the older versions AND retains them between boots.
it's just the 751 that is giving me issues. -
BDA123,
Just installing the Haali Media Splitter will enable the playback of .mkv files in Windows 7 from within WMP12 and W7MC. This free splitter always had this feature since it was released many years ago. So in the end CoreAVC doesn't really add any significant improvements over free solutions. As a note I have used CoreAVC 1.9.5 on my desktop using an Nvidia GTX 260. I found that both Windows 7's and MPC-HC's decoders use less CPU than CoreAVC. The picture quality is the same which makes sense since the H.264 codec is a standard after all. You either comply with the standard or not. So, I ended up getting a refund.
According to the developers of CoreAVC themselves, DXVA does use less CPU than their CUDA enabled decoder. I remember how their developers, mainly the one going by betaboy, was adamant about never adding DXVA to CoreAVC saying how bad it is. Now, he himself is saying they're going to add support for it.
Also, hopefully you bought each of your ION machines a copy of CoreAVC because each $9.99 purchase lets you only install it on a single computer. Otherwise, you're doing something illegal there.

Which intel driver has the option to enable power savings on the GPU? I've got the recommended ones installed from the tweaks thread, but can't enable any power savings on my GPU...
-
-
I'm 99 percent I grabbed the same ones.. but I could have missed the mobile, and got the desktop ones.. I'll try again.
Still unsafe to use the newest ones ( they were reported buggy)? -
Also make sure you get the .exe file and not the .zip file.

I have a 1410-8913 (Ruby Red) with a Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor inside, BUT there in a Centrino sticker attached to the palm rest...Why?
Isn't a Core 2 Solo a "more powerful" processor than a Centrino processor?
This isn't a Biggy...but the variety of processors that are in the 1410 makes my head spin and to lable a core 2 solo a Centinro just adds to my confussion.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
PS I really love my Hi Power netbook! LOL -
