Awesome!![]()
Please make close up of the vent hole so that we can have a glimpse at the heatsink assembly. I'd also like to see the wireless/bluetooth switch. And I'd like to know if the sim card slot is populated(it's behind the battery).
And while you are at it, please dissassemble it completely and make a close up of the mainboard![]()

Grrr
I have however broken and bought an inspiron 11z (first person to get one from the Carphone Warehouse in Oxford Street) £399.
Had a brief play in store and the keyboard felt reasonable, vista was actually relatively snappy (I'll pop win7 on mine later via MSDN)
Will have a play and let you know how it goes. -
A CSR from J&R called just now and said they just received a shipment and my 1410 is going out today. You should call them and see if you can get yours by the weekend.
Edit: J&R's website has the Diamond Black as in stock. -
Thanks john! Just placed an order for one.
-
oh nice. but i still wouldnt be able to receive it by this weekend since i live in the west coast.
-
You already have a x200, why would you want a 1410?
-
It's a gift for a friend of mine going to college. I was originally going to get her an Ion netbook (the Lenovo S12) when it came out but then I heard about the CULV laptops and decided that would be a better buy for $/performance.
-
ok mine just arrived to miami... 2 days to Colombia!!
-
Hmm, order up Acer 1410 or wait for Dell 11z with 6-cell. Maybe I just need to read more...
-
Nice! I'm doing something similar, buying the Ruby Red model for my girlfriend currently living overseas. Will be pairing it with an Anywhere MX Mouse (Darkfield).
The CULV processor should be powerful enough to do high quality Skype/Logitech Vid video calls, right?
-
Hello everyone,
I am typing this from a US AS 1410 Diamond Black. I ordered mine with cost central (canceled the J&R). I love this laptop/netbook. I've been following this thread for a few weeks now and it helped me make my decision. If you have any questions feel free to post them. -
The Celeron 723 is 200Mhz slower, has 2MB less L2 cache and has a higher TDP (10W vs. 5.5W) than the SU3500.
I think the Dell will need an 8-cell to match the 1410's battery life. -
Can you tell me if the trackpad has the wrap-around buttons like the newer EEE PCs (at least my 1000HE) or the flat (on top of the wrist rest) style buttons?
-
How are the heat/noise levels when the computer is under load? My Vaio TZ with its ultra-low voltage processor and chipset under load gets burning hot at the bottom and the fun runs very loud, the computer feels like its going to explode sometimes.
-
Can we see some detailed pictures of the black diamond
-
Just got mine.. what a great machine!
I'm moving up from a 10" Acer...and the 12" feels much more like a real laptop. The keyboard is only 15mm narrower than my fullsize desktop. There is no flex below the keyboard when pressing down (you get a nice firm stop at the bottom). There is a slight tilt/wobble to the keys due to the tight spacing (making it easier to apply a torque to a key corner and feel the wobble).
Overall design is good... blue LEDs are nice. Trackpad width is a good match for the screen. The screen is your typical TN washout... but usable. When are OLED screens coming out?
I'm loading Windows 7 now to get the REAL testing started... will post more later.
And would it kill Acer to put in the $0.05 pre-made restore DVD. I hate making these things. -
They are not flat trackpad buttons, they have an angle.
-
Can one of the folks who got the 1410 (not 1810T) comment on whether the keyboard has the tall enter key that's in the stock pics? some up close keyboard pics would be nice if you have the time
-
No, it does not have the tall enter key. Weirdly enough, the wallpapers on the computer show the tall enter key.
-
I am typing on the laptop now, with a few applications open. It runs very cool; which is a big difference from my macbook which can get very hot.
-
Thanks, that's great news! Pretty standard Acer-style layout then?
-
Pictures of the keyboard and trackpad buttons. -
whoa those are huge pictures. thanx alot. what is the palm rest made off? it looks a bit metalic.
-
Hey Cool6324,
it would be very nice if you can answer this question.
-
can anyone comment on the general responsiveness of the system (especially compared to an atom netbook) in web browsing with some light multitasking?
-
Thanks for the pics Cool6324! And thanks Acer for keeping your sensible keyboard layouts, but boo for scaring me with the wrong stock pic and customer support robot answers.
-
The system has been very responsive in light multitasking. (AIM, Google Chrome, iTunes (Streaming Radio), Solitaire). I mean this thing has 2gb of ram! I think it would work even better with 4gb.
-
I just measured it using a printable ruler online. For the Dimensions I got 270mm x 155mm.
-
My ruby red from JR got shipped today.
Arriving Monday.
And I better end up getting the $20 credit the CS promised me on the phone. -
Hello all,
I ordered a black 1410 a few days ago, but today saw a different model in person and am now afraid I might have aimed too small. Since you all seem very knowledgeable, I thought I'd solicit some opinions:
If the screen turns out to be too small, what are some suggestions for a unit with similar specs but in a 12-13 inch size?
Thanks,
J -
Hey cool,
Can you pull up some Hulu and see how it looks? I watch a lot of Hulu.
Thanks -
Hulu is working pretty well, just watched a clip from Saturday Night Live. But FYI: do not try it on power save mode. Power save mode made the clips very choppy.
-
Diamond Blacks are in stock at J&R
-
Yeah, they've been in stock since 11am California time.
-
Thanks!!!!
-
how is HD youtube videos? choppy or ok?
-
If Hulu plays fine, youtube HD should be okay too
-
Are any gamers out there who got their 1410/1810t now?
A Half-Life 2 benchmark would be full of win
-
Windows 7 runs very well on the 1410... much better than Vista. Vista never stopped churning the hard disk for the hour or two that I was using it.. But Win7 is very snappy and noticeably faster than my Acer D250 w/ Atom N270 (also running Win7).
All drivers are included in Windows 7 RTM... no loading wired/wireless drivers separately.
The "experience index" with Windows 7 stock drivers:
3.3 processor
4.8 ram
2.8 graphics (aero)
3.2 graphics (gaming)
5.7 hard disk
After loading Intel June 5 4500MHD driver:
3.2 graphics (aero)
3.2 graphics (gaming)
Notes/complaints about the Intel 4500MHD driver:
* Windows update driver is identical to the Intel website version.
* Only available explicitly for the "RC release". I hope a new version will come before Oct. 22.
* Driver is generally buggy and unoptimized. It adds 4 new running processes (doesn't Intel know about threading?).
* Driver hangs during login screen for 20-30 seconds and you have to wait. It is definitely the Intel driver since I can reproduce the issue by install/uninstall.
* Driver doesn't obey Win7's gamma/color adjustments. It resets them on every boot.
* Intel's color correction tool is worthless... cannot adjust gamma "down"... only up.
Below are my performance metrics for the Bourne/Lady Gaga videos. The area where only the movie was playing is highlighted in red. Notice that the performance tool uses up quite a bit of CPU time (6-10%) so it does impact results.
You can see that Adobe's engineers are way behind the CPU/GPU video paths.
Note: Bourne is beautiful on the screen and in 1080p via HDMI. No stutters or artifacts due to codec "compromises". This is both on A/C and battery. I'm VERY VERY impressed and pleased with the results.
Youtube HD and Flash are a joke. Image quality is a joke. CPU usage is a joke. Flash should be rewritten for CPU/GPU architectures and I won't be wasting battery life on it.
Grabbing the FLV file using FlashGot and playing with VLC. Much better!
Youtube offers the MP4 version of the video... looks and plays even better with WMP12.
(No I don't work for Microsoft... I just don't like Flash. I hope that Flash gets replaced with an embedded h.264 open standard like the one Firefox 3.5 added recently.)
My only significant complaint is the TN LCD panel. It has a green tint (which can be corrected with the Win7 gamma tools) and the contrast is very poor. Also color rendition is extremely poor... pure 255,0,0 red is like a tomato. They definitely cut corners on the panel. Prospective buyers should check one out first before buying. -
Very good. Never a slow down when I worked with it.
It's a myth that the Core Solo CPU isn't capable of multi tasking.
Acer 3810T. Lenovo U350. MSI X340. -
aha found the thread for 1810T finally
so it's true the memory is DDR2? -
I am very interested in your findings in how to properly setup this platform in regard to HD video decoding. I use GB-PVR as a media center which is a very stable and reliable piece of software. I want to setup my notebook as a GB-PVR client to my HTPC server. GBV-PVR is based on standard DirectShow filters for video and audio playback so using a standalone solution as VLC or MPC-HC is not an option for me in that regard. If you find the right mix of codecs which uses hardware decoding for this platform, then I am very interested in knowing (as I think everyone is).
Also, other optimizations such as overclocking, fan control, color calibration etc is interesting to hear about.
Also, what impact would a dual core model have on the overall performance... -
i'm planning to buy one of acer timeline laptops
which you guys things worth the price?
beetween 1810T and 3810T? -
Both are worth the price. It depends on what you need.
-
Yes and it doesn't matter for performance.
-
well, if that's true, i think i'll go for this 1810T then
much smaller and lighter
thx guys
i'll be coming back here after i purchased it for sure
learning how to maximize the performance..hehe -
The quality of the analog headphone output is terrible. You can hear all sorts of CPU and hard disk electrical noise... you can hear your cursor moving and files opening. Even when music is playing it doesn't drown it out.
This is simply unacceptable... I remember machines back in 1998 with this problem... but these days you have to test/shield/optimize these things. Acer fails. -
Hmm I've never tested it. I did read a workaround for the Dell Studio 15 where disabling Wireless A/B fixed it.
-
Disabling wireless has no effect.
The issue is caused by Acer putting audio jacks on the right side (which is the "wrong" side traditionally). This means they ran the signal across the entire device where it picks up all sorts of noise.
I'm looking around inside here and there seems to be a ribbon that carries signals from a small PCB on the right to the main motherboard.
Do NOT buy this laptop if you intend on using headphones. Even casually... the electrical noise is terrible. I've tried 3 pairs of headphones/earbuds... and it is relentless. -
Hey mali, sorry for the delay but I got carried away playing with the notebook -.d
Here is your close up of the fan sills:
