    tvone2,

I have a quick question, the first vista score you had a 4.3 for the graphics.. did you do anything to get it that high? I just bought the same laptop and my score is 3.7!

    Nothing special..
I did double the memory(4gig) and a 7200rpm hard drive...
    fresh vista install..(clean)
I run with no cover on the bottom, on a aluminum active cooling stand...(coolermaster notepal)
Did you change the 3D performance options to "performance" vs quality..??

I guess it might have to do with the extra memory and hard drive speed.. If I change the performance settings to performance, it gives me 0.1 extra points.. I guess it might have to do with the faster HD and extra memory..

I've seen that you put some thermal past between heat pipe and copper... with this trick do you noticed a better dissipation??

The HP bootdisk Utility is only for XP. IS there a similar software for Vista via which the Video card can be flashed.

tvOne2 i love you :D (in symbolic mode)

Yesterday Acer Italian Support have answered me that i can't change video card on 5520G... Your guide is very very good!!! Thanks for posting its!!!

which of this card i need?

    1) ASUS NVIDIA 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3(MXM2 /C90 Card)

    2) ASUS NVIDIA 8600M GT 512MB GDDR2 (MXM2 /C90 Card)

I think that the motherboard and bios not support the DDR3 memory... i have 5520G with 8400M (too slow for Warhammer Online). Must i change bios of the card or is not necessary?

Thanks for answer (to anyone) and sorry for my english ;)

i know this is probably a long shot. but i wanted to know if anyone knows where i can get the 5520-5716 motherboard. I want to do this upgrade but i have the 5520-5908 which has the 7000m. Ive been trying to find a replacement so i could swap it out and upgrade the graphics. But it has been to no avail. If anyone could help me out with this it would be great.

    I appreciate any help offered.

Out of those 2 options ... I'd pick the GDDR3.
Both are the same apart from GDDR3 having faster memory which would translate to about 5 to 10 ... maybe more fps in games.

Also .. I think it's necessary to change the bios of the card to the one you will be using because there is no guarantee if your laptop supports it right now

    thanks for the praise fella's...

Deks sums it up well either card will work with an upgraded vbios(flash)..
the DDR3 is faster from what I have heard..
New Nvidia laptop video drivers are out!
I need to get them loaded...

best of luck to all upgrading the 5520!

    Hey People,
We also bought a 8600GT for our Acer Aspire 5520, but we have got the problem that we don't get a screen. We only get a black screen, even the backlight won't go on. We are also not able to flash because the laptop don't want to boot from hdd, cd and bootable usb disk. Is there anybody with an idea to solve our problem :S, because we are desperate for a solution. Btw: we bougt this item: http://mac.macrecycling.com/nvidia-geforce-8600m-gt-mxm-ii-512mb-laptop-graphics-card-p-101356.html where is said it is with an acer bios. We have also checked what will happen if we remove the 8400G and the 8600GT both and we got exactly the same problem. Looks like the laptop don't see the card at all?

    tvone2,

got a couple questions about your cpu upgrade.

    The TL-58 is 31w whereas the TL-64 is 35w.

Have you noticed any difference in running temperature?

Is the stock cooling system sufficient?

How does this new processor impact your battery life?

    thanks

I'm running the 7000m version of this and I was wondering if you guys think it would be worth upgrading the processor and the ram in this and living with the onboard video for a while.

or if I should just say screw it and buy a new laptop straight up?

    GeeK,
I have had no issues with the upgraded processor..
    Temps are unchanged..
No problem with the stock cooler..(arctic silver applied)
I purchased an 8 cell battery.. (stock was 6 I think)
I have not tested the battery life.. So I have no real answer for you....

    I have upgraded my 5520-5290, with a TL-66 (2.3GHz), 4Gb of RAM 4-4-4-12 timing (Kingston ) and a 7200 RPM SATA 3, Seagate 250Gb hard drive using the 7000M video card.
First the battery life (standard battery) went from 2 hours and 43 mins. To 2 hours and 26 mins playing Call of Duty 2. I no longer have the Video lag and hesitation I had when the 5520 was in stock form. Plus under load the temps have only gone up 3c.

hey jessiejames58 (or anyone who did the similar upgrade),
did this CPU work out of the box for you? I've read elsewhere on this forum that 5520's BIOS might not support CPUs above TL-64 (2.2 GHz)
