Thanks for the help. I did the partitioning using "EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition" and everything went well.

For Acer users, my recovery partition is still intact and everything is working fine. For testing purpose I did factory restore using both options, "Restore Operating System and Retain User Data" & "Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults", neither of them effected my newly created partition and the data in it.

runs great so far! my temps go a lil bit higher than yours, around mid 70s at peak.. but doesnt bother me.

rage and borderlands 2 run perfect. i tried prototype2 but sadly, that game is just broken within itself. im planning to dry darksiders 2 and sleeping dogs in the next couple of days.

    best $380 i've spent yet :)

^awesome, neenja! I haven't been able to play much as of late with my work schedule and all, but I would have to agree with your assessment, that it is one if the best laptop deals out there!

I've overclocked to 2.4 turbo to 2.5 with k10stat and overclocked gpu to 700/950.
Playing battlefield 3 on low with 45+ fps.....very smooth and temp reaches bout 80/84 after 3 hours of constant play.
Forgot to mention I disabled dual graphics and made sure battlefield 3 was set to high performance so it used the 7670m and I've found the game runs ace.
Think it's different with all games though as I believe some games are dependant on either the CPU or gpu.
Trying to get arkham city running though. Got it on low with good fps but when I enter te city areas it drops an I've been playing around with dual/single graphics and nothing makes a difference.
Maybe I need to adjust little things here and there but here's hoping someone else has it running good.

I've had them, too. Only at the very top of my screen, though, not the middle.

It's only occured 4-5 times in the month that I've had the laptop, and it goes away if I reboot. Kind of random, except that it only happend on my desktop after closing a 3D application. Hasn't happend in a week now, touch wood.

Any clue as to what triggers it? or is it happening constantly now?

Tried reverting to stock drivers? not using TriXX?

no clue at all what triggers them, so far what I have noticed is, if I leave my laptop on for few hours they start showing up. I'm waiting for Neenjas response.

Not using trixx, I'll try reverting to stock drivers and will let you know.

Have you checked the temps on your GPU, raufjawaid, using GPU-Z? Almost sounds like a heat problem. Graphics cards will cause screen flicker and artifacts when they get too hot. Do you have your CPU or GPU overclocked?

i got those on my external as well as my laptop screen itself. ever since i updated my drivers, i can honestly say i have not seen those issues at all. during overclocking and even during non-overclocking. i believe ever since i jumped on 12.8 drivers i havnt noticed that problem. im currently still on 12.9b and still have not noticed the flickering anymore.

what drivers are you on? check out: AMD Catalyst 12.9 (9.001 September 13) AMD Official BETA - Guru3D.com Forums he has a link for 32bit and 64bit depending on which you have installed.

make sure you do a full uninstall of your current drivers. guru3d has a nice program called driver sweeper that is very helpful: Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

i also booted into safemode and removed the display drivers completely from my device manager just to make sure. after all is done, reboot normally and install the 12.9b drivers. lemme know if this works out for you. the new drivers also fixed the hdmi boot error too. (if an hdmi cable is attached via external monitor when you boot up, it causes a black screen and forces you to hot boot the machine)

hello, i have a 5560g, and am new to the overclocking world. im trying to get a bit more out of my machine for ARMA2.
i have k10stat and saphire trixx, both confuse me, is trixx GPU and k10stat CPU?

i cant get my k10stat to get BO setting Volts 1.3500, will only go to 1.2750 no matter what i click.
can you tell me what i should be setting my TRIXX too and which card i should be overclocking?

    my 6470m which is 1gb 750/900hz
    or my 6620g which is 500mb 444/667hz

you need to disable ULPS in the registry.

Go to start and search 'regedit' click enter (you have to hit enter as it does not bring it up in the search results)

    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    ControlSet001
    Control
    Class
THEN DOUBLE CLICK THE FOLDER NAMED

    { 4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\000

you will get so many folders named 0000 0001 0002 0003 and so on.......its different fro everybody.......in my case i have 0000 0001

Click on one of them and a list will populate in the right hand window........and scroll down to EnableUlps.....double click and a small window will pop up and in value data you will have the number 1. Change it to the number 0. Basically 1 = On and 0 = Off so when you change it to 0 you basically turning EnableUlps off.

Repeat the process for all your other folders eg 0001 0002 etc and exit.

Restart your laptop and load up your gpu overclock program and hey presto! you can now adjust the clocks.

This works for msi afterburner and saphire trixxx. I prefer trixxx as i can control the fan speed using that program.
There is a slight bug with trixxx it might be just for me but now and then everytime i adjust the clocks and click apply it would reset them so all i would do then is load msi afterburner adjust them there and they would automatically change themselves in trixxx too, and then id just close down msi afterburner as i prefer using trixxx.

Well thats all from me hoped that helped. Any more questions about over clocking please fell free to ask. Im generally on in the UK late evening so will do my best to help about.

Hi all, I have a problem with my Acer Aspire 5560G in that I have no display on the screen even though the machine is running. I spoke to Acer support on the phone and ran through the usual reboot and remove of battery and then reboot (& F6) but we have not had any luck. I am faced with losing it for a week to 10 days and cant believe there is an easier solution.
Is this 'black screen' issue common? Any thoughts of trouble shooting this?
    many thanks in advance

    Hi everyone,
My first post here. I've seen a mention in this thread of the potential risks of upgrading a Wi-Fi card (whitelisted cards etc). I was wondering if anyone here has had a successful (and beneficial) Wi-Fi upgrade experience? My Aspire is the 5560 with the AMD A4-3300M processor and the Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n card.

    Cheers!

There is no whitelist on Acers. Just don't buy a card that is meant for Lenovo laptops and you'll be fine.

    Hello all,

I have a problem similar to the one stated here, which is from another thread of this site ( ASPIRE 5315 BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE). I have an Acer Aspire 5560 which I recently formatted, and installed windows 7 64bit back on. Everything was going well until it got to the point where I needed drivers for the hardware. So, once I had made the laptop hooked back up to the internet, I went off to the Acer website, where I grabbed all the drivers and software that related itself to the 5560. This included a bios version update to 1.15. On doing a quick reboot I discovered I had a bios version of 1.09 that was currently in the unit. So I assumed that like graphics drivers and Divx codec's, that you get the latest / highest version going at the time. I installed all the hardware drivers first (sound/graphics/trackpad etc and the dredded SBUS driver that noone can ever find)... and several reboots and windows updates later we were all done. A refreshed perfectly working laptop ready to fill up with stuff again.

The next day I remembered that I had downloaded the bios update, so on studying the instructions 10 or 12 times I was ready to run the exe that flashed the chip.. When it was over 15 seconds later, it seemed that everything went well and the laptop was still breathing... so patted myself on the back (then called an ambulance, as apparently arms are not meant to bend like that).

3 hours later I came to shut down the laptop, it did its usual closing sequence, the screen went black but laptop was still on. It did not power down. No matter how many times I attempted to shut down, it would always get to the same point, and remain on. Remember, it will power up fine, load windows fine, the session will work without fault, it's just the shutdown that does not work anymore.

I charged into websites, forums, tech support blogs.... you name it, I tried it.... the power settings, the button settings, setting what happens when you press the power button, disabling sleep, disabling media server, pulling the battery off, booting only from AC, uninstalling the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery".... nothing works...

I then found that you could send a query to the battery from a dos prompt, Powercfg -energy -output [folder name][file name .html]

this showed me a number of errors and what was causing them (so they were easy to resolve), a number of warnings (which were ok and not relevant, and a few informational messages. I could resolve all but one error which I think is linked to the main issue... the error was :

PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer

I think this is the root of my shut down issue, however, none of the hardware has changed, and all I have done is a format and reinstall of windows 7. Also as I have flashed the bios to 1.15, would flashing it back to 1.09 make the incompatability go away, and if so, please please please, can you tell me how to remove 1.15, and reinstall a fresh copy of bios 1.09, which acers own support page for this laptop has on offer.

I have tried to install 1.09 again, but the installer tells me it's not needed as I have a newer bios detected, and returns me to the desktop.

(if you have made it to the bottom of my post - well done - the movie version is coming out next year)

Please help, I will love you all forever if you can cure all of my posted madness.

    Davis_Z

EDIT : I see that the last post from someone (other then a moderator) was on the 16 June 2013 on this thread.... does that mean noone looks here anymore?

So I know this is an old thread but poking around my machine, a 5560G, I wondered if anyone had tried using the WWAN port? There is no connector, and I dont know if it live. It does however look like a PCIe Mini style layout.

    Anyone tried to use it?

My 5560 is currently stuck in a boot manager loop with none of the keys working (so can't abort to set BIOS). This is after a failed UG to Win 10 and then a failed downgrade to Win 8.1 It would seem the system set the BIOS to read something but not what (won't read the good drive I know works with the system, a repair DVD disc from another Aspire (just to break the cycle), or any bootable USB keys. It just shuts down and tries to reboot.

So fare, I have tried to remove the CMOS battery for an hour+ but no joy. None of the service manuals one finds for the 5560 are for this model (they're from a much-older model, c. 2006, with a very different MB).

Any hints in how to short/reset the CMOS memory would be much appreciated.
