Hello All. I followed Terry's advice and have fixed my laptop. The problem with mine was the LCD cable although not the screen side, but the part of the cable which sits behind the power button. I thought I'd fixed it previously by taking the screen apart and ensuring the lcd cable was fixed in place, but it turns out that wasn't the problem.

I did get so frustrated that I threw the laptop on the floor, not something iI'd recommend because £150 later I had lost a lot of data, one new empty hard drive and still a flickering screen.

    So I thought I'd make a video of my repair so everyone could use it. Its very simple and the link is below;

Watch the video and try it.
It seems to have worked for me and cured a long standing and very frustrating problem. I did have to get to the connection in the screen itself as it seemed to be loose. Brilliant Thanks.

As Hoadie says, you may need to sort out the connection at the other end of the LCD cable as well - i.e. behind the screen.
    To sort the screen out,

1 download the service manual ( http://laptoprepairmanual.blogspot.com/2008/11/acer-aspire-5920-service-manual.html) and jump to page 66 and look at steps 1-4. This will give you an idea of what you're going to do. Don't worry that in the manual the screen has already been detached from the laptop body - this is not necessary and we can do what we want without doing that. Its easy honest.

2 remove the six screws, hidden beneath the rubber pads. These hold the light grey plastic screen surround on. I used a very small precision screw driver for this job because it fits the screws and can prise off any stubborn plastic covers such as this, without causing damage.

3 Once the 6 screws are removed, you need to undo the remaining hinge screws, which are located, on the now exposed metal hinges at the bottom left and right corners of the screen. The screws from the above steps (2 and 3) are the same so don't worry about mixing them up.

3 The screen back itself will now drop away from the LCD screen. Don't let it just hang there for too lond because it will put strain on the cables.

4 Look at the back of the LCD screen. You will see the flat LCD power cable taped to the back, with metallic coloured tape. I removed the tape(s), slightly repositioned the LCD cable so where the cable comes under the screen it did not rub up against any plastic protrusions from the case. I then removed the LCD cable "plug" from its socket and put it back in! I then re-taped the cable using bog standard electrical tape.
Be aware also that the web-cam power cable is incorporated into the LCD cable and splits off at the base of the screen. This would be an ideal opportunity to sort out any connection issues.

5 refit all screws, case etc. Bobs your uncle, Acers a tw*t. ;)

    Same issue here...

I don't want to void my warranty but I also don't want to be without a laptop for 3 weeks only to get it back and it hasn't been fixed...

I can't believe Acer haven't acknowledged this problem. I think replacements for this fault should be in order. Has anyone contacted watchdog or alternative company like that about this issue?

Hurst - thank you so much for your two youtube videos. They're excellent and I think I'm going to have a crack at it myself. I've had my Acer for about 2 years now and I've just started to experience the screen cutting out....and quite frankly I'm sick of having to wiggle it into a working position.

Just a quick question though regarding the "kitchen roll" fix....Can I do it just by removing the power button panel, or do I need to remove the panel surrounding the screen as well? In that video I notice that you have both panels off, and in the second video (the one about the cable behind the screen) you show that by removing the outer screen panel you can see the kitchen towel from the previous fix. The reason I ask is because I'm not massively confident about removing the panels so if I can fix it by removing only one then I would be happier.

    Thanks again.

I made a vid of my screen flickers ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hsI9q-r5d0)

It has gotten to a point where I could no longer handle the flickering so I did what hurst75 did in his video and wedged a piece of kitchen towel in there to fix the LCD connector cable in place and so far so good... fingers crossed.

I am kind of worried though that the kitchen towel could catch on fire if the laptop gets hot enough :/
