Thanks. Actually i prefer the aluminium lid in the i5 version to the Gorilla glass cover for the i7. Is yours the 11" version?
-
-
Mine is 13" with i5, 128 gb ssd & gorilla glass cover. Where i am, there's only this model. No 11". So i dunno how the aluminium lid looks like.
-
To date it seems the 11.5 is only part of their imagination unless someone has actually seen one. In fact nobody seems to make a touchscreen w8 11.5 inch ultrabook model with an i series processor. In fact Amazon stopped even showing them on their site, both the s7 and the Asus Taichi. They just don't really seem to exist.
-
I am seriously considering this S7 13" Laptop. I like the size, weight, and the wonderful IPS Touchscreen.
Any other good competitor with similar spec. On my short list
Lenovo Yoga 13 - I am waiting for the 256GB SSD Offering, they only have 128 ATM on their site.
Acer Aspire S7 13"
Samsung S9 13"
Samsung is not touch screen, so that is a bit of a draw back. But the Aspire only offer 4GB RAM, which is also a negative too.
The Asus ZENBOOK™ Touch U500VZ does look interesting. Except the exterior design is not as nice as Acer. -

Has anyone seen the real, physical 11" version?
-
Engadget pans the battery life too:
Acer Aspire S7 review (13-inch): great Ultrabook, a shame about the battery life
-
Comparing Engadget's 4+ hrs and Acer's claim of 6hrs is a big difference. I am wondering how long the battery last under normal usage with wifi on, office programs, and 50% brightness?
-
Questions for actual owners:
How Noisy or quiet is the i5 version?
How Noisy or quiet is the i7 version? Especially interesting as Engadget says it is very loud.
Any owner has the external battery and can:
- post a photo of how the laptop looks with the external battery
- tell how long the battery life of the notebook is with the external battery
I'm a seriously considering the S7 but the 4GB RAM limit, the noise and the battery life are big turnoffs for a premium priced Ultrabook.
There are very few alternatives though. The Zenbook Touch is also limited to 4GB and not available.
The Thinkpad Carbon X1 isn't full HD, isn't touch and is even more pricey though you can have ,more memory.
The soon available HP SpectreXT Touchmart 15 has it all + displayport - a huge plus - but it is bigger (15.6). -
Asus makes nice laptops. But their choice in color sucks. -
I just saw a video review of the 11" version but there is no sign of it in stores. Does anybody know anything about this?
Also is the screen 11 or 11.6". That makes a difference! -
Suggestions/thoughts?
Looking at the asus ux21a-1ak3 available for $599 same features as the acer s7 except the hd touch screen. My question is, do you think the higher resolution touch screen is worth the additional $600? -
$599 is a very very good price.
It isn't the only difference though: this Asus model hasn't a touch screen.
You should go and see in a store this model to see whether the resolution is enough for you - or on a similar laptop with same screen size and same resolution.
But the $600 difference is very big, you could buy the Asus + a Microsoft Surface or an iPad 4 for the same price. -
I am curious about the real weight of the asus vs the acer. I found contradicting specs.

Hi,
I can not really decide which way to take so I will ask you that own one of my option what you think.
Option 1: Buy one 8gb Vaio Serie Z // VPC-Z23Z9EB // 256 Gb HD 1.2 kg (touch window wih Win8)
Option 2: Buy one Acer S7 ( 13" / 4GB / 128Gb HD ) 1.3 Kg (touch window wih Win8)
Option 3: Buy one Lenovo Yoga ( 256 Gb / 8gb ) 1.52 Kg (touch window wih Win8)
Option 1 is more expensive but gives maybe better computer.
Option 2: gives not to heavy computer but bad battery time
Option 3: Heavy but better touch feelings.
I wonder if you use a lot the touch function in Win8 ?
Thanks for the help

If you like good screen take the Acer S7.
If you like full HD screens take the Acer S7.
If you like stylish thin lightweight laptops take the Acer S7.
If you need battery life don't take the Acer S7 unless you are prepared to purchase and use the external attachable battery.
If you need 8GB of RAM take the Lenovo Yoga or the Sony.
If you need a good tablet mode it is either the Lenovo Yoga or the Sony.
If you need pen take the Sony.
You may also consider the XPS 12, the (still not available) Asus Zenbook Touch and Microsoft Surface Pro / other Windows 8 tablets.
Regarding touch, most people having a touch device seem to use touch more and more, even thoses who weren't really attracted to touch, as for some manipulations it's really more confortable than keyboard or mouse.
If you don't need touch or full HD the Toshiba Z930 has outstanding ports as has the HP Elitebook, but they are really expensive and the Asus Zenbook Prime is a very solid choice at a relatively decent price for an Ultrabook and an outstanding full HD display.
To be frank I am in the same situation as you are and still undecided as there isn't really a good touch Ultrabook without fail on the market:
S7 looks fantastic and has a good screen but crappy keyboard, the Sony has a bad screen and is to my eyes ugly, Yoga tablet mode with apparent keys is still unproven, zenbook touch not available, surface pro not available, hp ultrabooks only full HD on 15.6 models, X1 carbon touch seems fantastic but very expensive and not full HD, XPS 12 seems quite enticing but does not seem to be delivered before mid january and could be cheaper, the Asus Taichi seems very interesting but we need tests regarding battery life, heating and how useful 2 screens really are. Plus the screen is not touch in Ultrabook mode, which is a shame. -
i like the s7 , but need 8gb ram, more battery life.
yoga is a option, but they missed the backlit keyboard.
i dont see the perfect ultrabook in the market, maybe wait to ces 2013 is a good option -
The Lenovo Helix will be interesting competition for the S7 in the 11.6" range. Although it's a hybrid tablet, it competes quite well with the S7 andprobably will cost less. Look for it in the CES news over the next few weeks.

Anyone can confirm if they have this SSD he mention? Acer Aspire S7 Touch Screen Ultrabook Review - Worlds Fastest Ultrabook Intros New SSD Form Factor - The SSD Review
Would love to see the option of 8GB. Two major things holding me back from getting the S7. Not having 8GB and it having the worst battery life of all ultrabook -
X1 Carbon Touch
XPS 12
Both has the option of 8GB RAM and 256SSD. Battery life is decent. Good quality resolution screen and good build quality. Backlit keyboard.
After that...you have the
XPS 13 - No Touch Screen, but solid
Asus UX31A - touch screen, but 4GB limit RAM. -
-
The 11" version of the S7 deserves far more attention that it got. It's probably not helped by Acer not really making it available anywhere. Perhaps they never expected there to be a market for 11" Win 8 notebooks.
I've had mine for a week now (i7, 256GB version), and I couldn't be happier. Yes, the battery life is the biggest drawback, but you could take the extra battery with you, which doesn't weigh that much.
Fans are always on, but when doing every day browsing and typing you won't notice them with normal ambiance noise, and if you do hear them (in a quiet room) then it's more a woosh sound, but not at a particular frequency, so it doesn't whine.
Acer suffer from a (self inflicted) image problem, but this laptop is really built to a very high standard. I hope they come out with a Haswell version soon! -
Joks, you mention battery life, do you have the Haswell version?
-
There won't be a Haswell 11" version. In fact, they've been liquidating all the 11" versions as low as $600 through various vendors.

The reviews on Amazon have been pretty positive so far, and the reviewers are fairly pro-active about answering questions. Not so glowing that they seem fake, mind you.
Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Crystal White)
I just ordered it from BuyDig.com. Same laptop, but their price is $40 cheaper plus I was able to use a $25 coupon (not much, but still getting it for $60 less is nice - BuydigCool25Off), for $1500 total with 2-5 day shipping.
Now I just wait. :| -
But none of those are the almost QHD display at 2560 x 1440. They are just the 1080p displays. Wonder when those will come out.
-
Any comment on why this s7 is so much cheaper then the others?

Looking at purchasing it but want to make sure it is the right one. -
blank, you are looking at a 3rd generation processor (S7- 391) not the Haswell model (S7-392).
-
Still can't decide if I should wait for the Ativ Book 9 Plus or get the gorgeous S7.
