Can I ask what your cold boot time is? From powered off until you can see the desktop and icons in seconds?

I can't... I get a message saying "the program... cannot start or run due to incompatibilities with 64-bit versions of Windows..."

What version did you use, 1.10? Got it directly from the Acer website? The website is not really working now, but I don't recall seeing many options there...

    Yes.

Timeline 8000 series notebooks will be offered in 13.3 inch, 14 inch and 15.6 inch displays that support 1366x768 resolutions. These notebooks will feature Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Solo Ultra Low Voltage Platform based processors. Up to 4GB or 8GB DDR3 RAM would be packed according to the 32-bit or 64-bit operating system
chosen. Storage features either 160GB or 500GB HDD or 80GB Intel X25-M SSD. Graphics would be taken care of by Intel 4500MHD integrated chip or users can choose discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card.

That looks pretty good. I didn't see an HDMI port in that review though. I'm really disappointed by that. There's one timeline with intel graphics and HDMI and another that offers ATI graphics but no HDMI. I can get both in another notebook but not with nearly 8 hours of battery life. What a predicament!

Really? The aspire will get ati?

I haven't seen that yet. I won't get my hopes up until I do.

edit: Oh ho! Here it is from an australian retailer for a crazy price! http://www.digitan.com.au/product.php?productid=62674

I don't know how much they expect it to be in the US. I hope it's still under $1000. That would be my perfect laptop.

well, there are some , 3810TG, 4810TG, those get intel + ati.
Here, in malaysia, in couple days, 4810TG should be available.

the price on that website is insane. Price here published on newspaper is around $850.

I have a question: In msconfig, on the startup tab, I see a Startup Item "DefaultSettingEXE Application" located in C:\Windows\PLFSetI.exe
Anyone know what is that? I'm worried that I got a virus or something or is this from Acer?

This morning I turned on my 4810T to be greeted with an entirely white screen (LCD/LED) from POST. If the screen isn't white the screen is completely black. I connected the laptop to an external monitor using the VGA cable, and got a picture from POST till Vista completely loaded. The display in Windows was limited to 800x600x32. The picture itself on the TV seemed to flicker a bit. Attempting to higher the resolution to what the Viera could handle caused the display to go out.

I've owned the laptop for approximately 21 days. The 15 day exchange policy at Micro Center is up, no exceptions.

    What should I do?

The BIOS version was updated to 1.23 using the TV screen, and it took. I was using 1.22 previously. Attempted to reinstall the video drivers, no such luck. Bad inverter?

is it just me or that the acer timeline boot up with 100% cpu usage? my computer boots up in around 41 second, but not able to access programs until like 20 seconds or so later.

I don't think LED screens require inverters so it's probably something else. Does acer have a support system? If anything the laptop should have some warranty coverage. You could check to see if the lcd cable is loose, but I would check with warranty/support first.

Was worth a shot. My Acer Aspire 2010 blew an inverter back in the day shorting out my display. I miss that guy. The 9200 ATi Radeon was awesome.

I popped the back off. Everything looked fine. Cables are nice and snug, and man... I have to say it's very tight in there. I'm going to see if I can head back to the store and see if I can claim a "gift" policy on it. Maybe they'll let me exchange it for another one. Besides, it was a gift for my brother. Meh. He really liked it too.

Hello everyone! i just purchased a 4810T and i am totally lost as to what i can actually do with it in regards to expansion. I'm not sure what exactly the terminology is (PCIe mini?) or what it means.

Could anybody give me a run down on what exactly i can add to my new timeline and what the slots actually are usable for? SSD? SSD + HDD? 3g modem? Does the sim card slot work?

I really have absolutely no clue

    thanks!

You could add a mini pcie ssd in that slot. Some EEE netbooks used mini pcie ssd's. Here and here are good places to get one. I had a 16GB Runcore in my EEE 901 (though it was an older PATA one) and they are pretty good, except my write speed never got above 25mb. Or you could add 3G or Bluetooth, see this thread.

Someone told me that the 4810T does not have a Mini PCIe slot??? is that true? does the 3810T only have it?

Regarding a Mini PCI-e SSD. it seems some of those read/write speeds are the same as the regular SATAII SSD drives. Would they show the same speed?

What i want to know is can i buy a 64GB mini pci-e SSD and use that as my OS hard drive and my other 320GB hard drive for storage? otherwise i was thinking of getting a 2.5" caddy and removing the Dvd drive and putting in a SSD. What you think? Will they both work fine? I'm a bit clueless

    Timeline 8000 series is Timeline Travelmate (8371x, 8471x, 8571x).
    I can already buy 8371 (TM8371T-943G32N). 8471 (TM8471T-943G32N) should be 2009-08-21 and 8571 (TM8571T-943G32N) should be 2009-08-26

I'm not sure about having the extra Mini PCI-e in the 4810t. I don't even know will a "Mini PCI-e SSD" work in the extra PCI-e if it is on the motherboard. Mini PCI-e SSD are slower than the SATA II SSD drives. Their speed are completely different. Much slower. I don't think removing the DVD drive would be possible to use as a HDD/SSD slot.

    hi all,
ive read a lot about this thread and i decided to buy my own timeline 4810t (su3500) here in the us.
i think my laptop may have a problem with its mousepad tho - the right mouse button works fine, but the left one doesnt work the same. what i mean by this is, you can depress the left button and can hear the click, but it doesnt register with the computer - you have to press it further down for it to register and thats when you hear another click.
so essentially, it the left mouse button clicks once n doesnt register. u have to press it harder to register.
does anyone have this same problem? or know how to remedy this? tia.

Is the 3810T comfortable to type on?

I tried it out at Best Buy and the edge of the laptop feels a little sharp against my wrist when my fingers are on "asdf jkl;", but I was standing up when I was trying it out. Does it feel better when you're sitting?

Do you require a PCIe slot for a 3g modem?

    The 3810T has a PCI-e slot, why wouldnt the 4810T :S

Wouldn't a PCIe card like this for your OS improve speeds greatly? it says 200mb/s read 100 mb/s write speeds which are higher than most SATAII SSD's > http://www.tweaktown.com/pressrelea...ps_ssd_sata_mini_card_for_netbooks/index.html

Could this be the idea setup for the timeline if you have 320GB normal HDD?

Put the PCIe SSD as OS and HDD as storage (hybrid system)

I haven't opened mine up yet, so I don't know about the mini pci-e or not.

    Different configuration=different motherboard/slots.

Well, the question is, how much would be willing to spend on a SSD? No one can actually confirm that the Mini PCI-e SSD will work on any Mini PCI-e port. Those SSD were made for basically the Asus EEE PC and some other netbooks that support it via Mini PCI-e. Regular size notebook uses the standard size 2.5" SATA II SSD.

Ok folks... Anybody found a way to watch youtube HD videos on a su2700?

I am downloading the videos from youtube (speedbit+fdm) and watching them on mpc-hc... Altough it works fine (I guess because mpc-hc uses hw accelartion - dxa), it is a bit annoying (have to wait for the download to be completed to start watching them)
