I have no problems watching 720p and 1080p. No skipped frames afaik.
fatpolomanjr, can you tell me which 1080p clip causes skipped frames? Then I can test it.
Did you do a clean install? And yes the latest driver from Intel.com is important, preferably with a clean install.
-
Thanks. -
Yes it works with my i3 too.
-
So you can always hear the fan while sitting in front of the device? (not having your ear 2 inches away from the fan)
I have an 4 year old ASUS W3N and in idle and low load I cannot hear the fan, because it is simply put off in these situations.
EDIT: I think the stuttering HD-streaming is due to a WLAN issue (driver or connection related) -
I have to sit close to the fan, 1-2 foot, and pay attention to hear it.
-
-
If I have it on my lap it would be hard to hear. I wouldn't worry about. My i3 is fairly quiet. The fan is just a soft breeze.
-
It is probably something that is not right on his end. -
EDIT: I only have problems with Full Screen. I'll look into fixing them. Good to hear I'm wrong! -
Big Buck Bunny animation (1080p HD) on Youtube looks totally smooth to me.

I had my much loved 1410 that I had upgraded with 4GB memory and 500GB 7200RPM HD stolen from me a week ago. I reported it to the police put not much chance to recover the machine. I am now in the market for a 1830 with 4 GB memory and 500GB HD and the i7 chip set. I know this is not at the retailers yet. My question: How do I get it the quickest after it is released? I can pre-order it at Amazon but will that put it in my hands the quickest? I live close to a Fry's electronic store where I purchased the 1410 and got a good deal, any chance that store will receive an early lot of them? I heard that the release date is next week is that true? Please help with suggestions. Price is important but getting it trumps price.
-
Is the Fan controllable with tools like Notebook Hardware Control Or sth like this?
-
I love my 1410T. I used it as my everyday computer in my business while I waited for the 3820TG to be released and have been using it again as my everyday machine for the past 3 weeks while my 3820TG motherboard is repaired in China. This thing has never let me down and is a great little travel/backup unit.

I installed the latest driver, and everything works perfectly now. With or without hardware acceleration.
-
Try using mirillis splash.
-
I can watch 1080p youtube videos no problem. Using the latest beta build for 64bit flash on linux too. No issues with noticeable stuttering or frame dropping.

Can the 1830 Be undervolted with CPUgenie? Does it reduce the Fan Noise?
-
As far as I know the current ULV line can not be undervolted.
-
I got my 1830T i5 yesterday from Amazon, I just found, that it's came with i5-470UM. also it came with Synaptics touchpad

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

guys...
are there 2 different versions of 1830T ??
1. With Alps
2. With Synaptics
?!?
Is it possible to buy one with the Synaptics ?
Thanks -
Yes. Yes it is. And I think the synaptics version also comes with an intel wireless card. Not sure.
-
How delicate of an operation is it to swap in an Intel WiFi card? How are the antenna leads attached? It is easy to remove the old WiFi card?
-
So does the new throttlestop turbo accelleration work on the 1830T as well as it seems to on the M11x?

Wish to ask if 1830T's battery life's truly much worse
than 1810's because of i5 processor, even that battery's
same or even bigger.
Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T Review - Battery, Wi-Fi, Green Tests, Configs, Software & Verdict
From close to 9 hours to less than 6 hours as in review above.
As battery life is one of the most important aspects for
ULV laptops vs other bigger models, if less than 6 hours official then
with even heavier multimedia use will be only be like ~3 hours in reality, then could be
more and more defeating the purpose of getting a ULV processor to begin with ? (should get back the 1810 instead
if really care battery life?)
If already been discussed in this longgg thread, can simply help
link me to the page then good enough. I just couldn't seem to find it
for a moment through 198+ pages.
Thanks all for help -
Red devil, you are right. And Laptopmag is right.
The current Intel ULV line is a disappointment in battery life in my opinion.
6 hours on low brightness is possible (wifi on). A bit more if you replace the HDD with a low power SSD. -
Thanks reply.
I've been thinking on buying 1830T in Hong Kong
with a free upgrade from 1-yr to 3-yr warranty.
Just been holding back on the battery life
since 1810 seemed so much superior on that
if with only slight performance hit.
But then 1810's older model faded out of market,
and I want 500GB HD anyway, not 320GB on 1810.
I won't play 3D games much on it,
but will play extensive streaming HD videos.
But then this battery issue
seems to be more Intel problem than Acer problem,
wonder if the added performance is really that significant
to justify the more battery drain. -
-
Just ordered the 1830T with the i5 processer to replace my stolen 1410. Circuit City had it for 699 where Amazon wanted 799. My local Fry's has it for 699 but is out of stock. I will have it Tuesday, I am soo looking forward to getting this and getting it set up like my 1410. I was thinking of the i7 but the added cost seemed too high for the small increase in function. I sure loved my 1410, I am excited about this new machine
-
-
I'm definitely mistaken then.
-
Facing a choice between i3 and i5
with minimal price difference.
If based on performance <--> battery
tradeoff, which should go for? As this Intel
i series is already much more draining than
1810T's dual-core series.
Also with the more Streamlined Windows 7 (vs Vista),
is 2GB RAM more than enough so far on 1830T for web-browse
and HD streaming, or
should still fork out more upgrade to 4GB RAM right away?
Thanks -
I don't expect the i3 to get more battery life than the i5.
And upgrading to 4GB is definitely worth it with Windows 7. -
Also, I need to track down an Intel WiFi card here in Thailand. Are they easy to find in stores in the USA, if I make a visit? I know they can be ordered online, but my credit card probably won't be accepted with an overseas billing address and ship to a USA address. Shipping one to Thailand involves paying "tea money" (bribe) to Customs and adds considerably to the price. -
Thanks reply.
Checked with some smaller stores,
and some of them listed i5 1.2 or 1.3GHz,
some listed as i5 2.4GHz. Considering they're all 1830T,
should be all ULV versions. I asked him, and he just said
2.4GHz is because of turbo-boost, without it's same 1.2GHz,
but still their listing's quite unprofessional and sloppy confusing.
List of Intel Core i5 microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and he further added that the turbo-boost of i-series
is really gimmick, and won't feel any difference (rarely even
activate) on daily use. I wonder how much BS or validity that is...
Thanks -
Was that via Amazon seller RCS Experience? I am getting ready to pull the trigger on an i5 equipped 1830T and want to get the fastest one currently shipping.
Does yours use the AS1830T-3721 model number?
Is your Amazon part number (ASIN): B003N3JJJY - if not can you advise from your order what it is?
Let me know ASAP if at all possible - was hoping to order on Monday. I know there is only a slight difference in speed between the 430UM and 470UM but since I'll take all I can get.
Speaking of which - its VERY tough to get technical details on the -470UM. Intel's own database doesn't show it yet (ark.intel.com)...just don't get it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
-Curt -
Still trying to find something (anything) on the Intel site that confirms what an i5-470UM actually is....
-Curt -
@thinkpad_guy
I have no idea what RCS Experience is. I just purchased it as usual... but it was Amazon stock. I was shipped with standard shipping with free (not super saver's free shipping) so it was delivered in 3 days to MN.
yes model number is AS1830T-3721
ASIN was B003N3JJJY, correct
although the listing on Amazon and even label on the box was sauing it's 430UM, the processor is 470UM with 1.333 Ghz basic frequency and 1.867 Ghz in Turbo mode
just google i5-470UM you'll get plentu of wites with specs, and yes, true, there is no specs of 470UM on Intel's site... strange -
-
Sound like yours actually came from Amazon itself and not RCS....just wondering why Amazon itself isn't shipping any right now and if I take a chance on getting the same config you did from RCS or wait and see if Amazon gets them back in stock.
If you have a look at Amazon this morning you'll see what I am talking about...also the current price (via this seller RCS) is $799 + $12.70 in shipping - I know you said your shipping was free but what about the laptop itself....was it $799? That sounds $100 too high as Tiger has them for $699 - although they list the processor as the original -430UM. -
Oh, I got it, yes that was Amazon, now Amazon has it out of stock, but will be back in coulpe of days, it happens very often as the Laptop is in high demand
flying out off the shelf
you can try B&H Photovideo Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T-3721 11.6" LX.PTV02.043 - B&H they have it in stock, but god knows what CPU and touchpad
)

Was hoping that those of you who have purchased 1830Ts from Amazon could shed some light on this:
As of this morning (17 OCT 2010) on the Amazon (US) site the only seller that the AS1830T-3721 shows available from is RCS Experience (a large technology retail store in NYC) for $799. Forum member zviangi purchased this model # from Amazon itself (seller and shipper was Amazon NOT RCS) recently and his shipped with the newer Intel i5-470UM AND a Synaptics trackpad (which is exactly what I am looking for).
I wonder if there is a processor/touchpad upgrade going on and thats why stock is so hard to find (this model # on Newegg is "deactivated")?
Has anyone ordered from RCS via Amazon and also gotten a -470UM processor?
Interestingly on the RCS direct site you can buy it for $749 - which I guess makes sense when you factor in the commission they have to pay selling via Amazon - that said its still $50 more than TigerDirect.
Now I remember why I bought so many Thinkpads over the years for the company I worked for....there was the wonderful PSREF document that detailed every model #, every spec and every change - wish other notebook manufacturers did the same....
-Curt -
@thinkpad_guy
I think those other shops just catch the moment to use the high demand and sell couple of laptops for more, the it actually costs...
I think you have to wait for Amazon stock, while I was thinking, it happened many times, when it was out of stock and other were selling it for more price. Same happens with BH Photovideo, there is also a shortage of this laptop often...
Regarding 470UM, I think newer laptops in stock will already have 470UM, or maybe more...
I ordered mine on 28th of september and it arrived on 1st of October, but I actually got it on 13-th, since I am not in US, i am in Europe and my friend, who was in US for visit, brought it to me -
Thanks so much for the info....I just went through this entire excercise over the summer when we purchased my son a new HP Envy 14. I just sold off two old Thinkpad X31s that I had used for years and its time to buy something new. I was leaning towards just getting a new Thinkpad X series but its hard to justify the $$ everytime with those things.
Think I'll keep an eye on Amazon and perhaps give B&H call tomorrow morning and see if they know what stock they have.
With regard to the processor and trackpad I assume you didn't know what you had actually gotten until you fired it up and checked out the processor info in the BIOS and trackpad info in device manager?
-Curt -
699$ is the price, that Amazon has for it. so this the Standard price for this model.
I think yes, the only way is to look in to CMOS setup and device manager to see exact CPU and touchpad model. I B&H guy can do this, would be helpful... As I said, my box was saying 430UM and I did not even tried to check, I just occasionally discovered it was 470UM, when I was setting the boot order in CMOS setup -
Perfect - thanks for all your help and quick replies to way too many questions for a Sunday morning on my part. Have a great day.
