if you want I can upload the drivers from
    acer.
I don't think I'm gonna be upgrading any time soon to be honest. after modding mine to be easy to keep cool, even with overclock, it's been running great.
I play CS Go mostly and have it connected to a full hd monitor. It's still very fast. :D

Thanks for the offer, but I did have what I needed on a backup DVD. :)

Everything went well and I'm posting on my clean install. Nice and faster than before.

My next step will probably be some overclocking. I do remember how you opened some additional vents on the bottom of the laptop to improve air flow. ;)

I'm happy to know people are still using the 4820TG. It was/is a great laptop.

:) good thinking to keep a backup :p

even if it doesn't work much for gaming anymore, it's a beast for media etc..
Also doing office work on it would be fine for at least a few years.
    best £650 I've spent :D

Man that sucks about the driver page being down.

My 4820TG died. I suspect the mobo fried. I was super bummed since power and battery wise I still planned to use it for a few more years. It ran everything! If there are refurb mobo's running around perhaps ill give it a shot trying to rise it from the dead.

I upgraded to a Sony Vaio fit 15 that I found for about 700 USD. The hardware was similar in terms of power (new gen i5 + gtm735) but there are some improvements over the 4820TG that I am enjoying. 1920x1080 display is great. Backlit keys are great. Touch screen is enjoyable for windows 8/8.1/10 tech preview.

It came with a HDD that was similar to the Momentus XT. My advice to everyone... Don't buy a hybrid HDD. Just get a SSD. The moment I put my old SSD into both the 4820TG and Sony Fit 15 they turned into different machines. Boot time is gone and things just fly.

Much love and appreciation for this thread.

Can anybody suggest a current gen replacement for my 4820tg? What I love in this laptop is it's more than decent dicreet graphics card(HD 5650) and the battery life. But gotta say that the screen is bad compared to other laptops. I occasionally play games, but see a lot of 1080p movies and hear songs daily on my laptop. Also do heavy internet browsing(FF 200+ tabs at a time) and Android development. So it would be nice if anyone can give me a suggestion on a current gen laptop which is similar to 4820tg.

In my opinion V7-482PG is a good heir of 4820tg, ltough is a bit old now, it's still a good machine: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/aspire-v7-482pg-9884.724622/

Current generation acer V5 591G is a little larger being equipped with a 15" screen but it's also a much more powerful machine: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/new-acer-aspire-v-nitro-series.759420/

I attempted to increase the memory by adding a 4gb stick(Kingston TP3BS/4GFR 1333Mhz cl 9 stick). But the Laptop refused to boot with 2 sticks(original 2gb + new 4gb) and shows BSOD with just the new stick. Any way to make the stick work with my lap, or that money lost? My system is the i5 M480, HD5650, 3gb Kingston PC3 10600 1333Mhz cl9 model. The new ram is also about same, I don't know why it isn't working. In BIOS it detects the new Ram and shows the full 6gb but system won't boot on both Windows and a Linux Live USB. :(

I tried to run memtest86+-5.01 with only the new 4gb ram stick installed and it's keep restarting the moment the test start running. Is this indicate a faulty ram stick rather than an incompatible memory? Please, any help is appreciated since if this is the case I need to return the new ram stick asap.

You should return it if you can. There's not much your can do with a BIOS that doesn't allow you to fiddle with specific RAM settings like desktop mobos usually do. Here it's plug & pray.

I got some new problems now. :( My Laptop fan seems to be not working properly now. It keep spinning for 4 seconds and then stops and this process is repeated. When this happens the Laptop will eventually shutdown after becoming extremely hot. But some times the fan keep spinning like normal and no stopping or anything happens then.

I took out the fan, cleaned it and applied some lubricant to the motor tip and other parts inside the fan and there is no difference, still operating like before. So I concluded that it's not fan's fault. I also checked motherboard for any blown out capacitors and there is none. Now, my main suspect is the Thermal paste. I already ordered a Noctua NT-H1, but now I have the doubt that if it's the problem of thermal paste, why the fan stop spinning? Is this possible? Or any one know any other cause for this strange behavior from the cpu fan?
