There is a coupon for MC that takes 5% off, It helps alot with the tax here. I think they give it to you if you buy just anything and if you are on their members rewards program.

Well, they will trend together, but at least for me and the other guy that logged over time they did change independently. Especially based on the game for me - i've had games that ran the gpu at 7c below, even temps and 4c above the cpu. I guess just depending on what gets stressed more. His were 10c lower for the gpu with alien swarm iirc (with an i5). It's hard to say really only knowing max temps.

Yeah, I see that, that's weird. Does everest have the temps in the main computer->sensor pane and just not for logging? Maybe try without other monitoring software running?

Just a little curious. Why did you return the Y460? How does the Y460 compare to the 4820TG?

    mine is PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_03591025&REV_00

I've never gotten that error before, even during my failed attempts it would always say "install successful" or something like that, only it wasn't. idk man, have you tried a clean install of windows 7?

um noone seem to be answering any of my questions :( i understand the reviewer had a section regarding the keyboard already but im wondering what everyone who has it thinks? im thinking of buying this laptop in 2 weeks to replace my hp 3032tx for the better battery life, just wondering how the keyboard is? i have gone and seen the laptop but to me the keyboard feels really awkward and is different from the hp one. is this a bad thing? or is it something that you can get used 2? please help as i need to decide whether to buy this or keep my hp asap :(

the keyboard is fine. this is my first laptop, so I can't really compare it to anything, but so far...it works? lol I don't really know how to judge keyboards; to me as long as I can type on it with decent accuracy and it's not some random messed up layout it's good enough. imo all keyboards require an adjustment period so it's not really fair if you judge the keyboard based on a 5min demo on the display model.

compared to my desktop keyboard, it feels "mushier" (not necessarily a bad thing) and there's less travel distance. there's a small bit of flex which is unnoticeable during normal usage.

give it some time, and trust me you will adjust to it :)

The only complaint I had (note, past tense) about my flex-free backlit keyboard was the low amount of travel compared to my previous laptops. I've gotten used to it though so now I am very happy with the keyboard.

Do you think that there might be something wrong with your system? Aylafan's unit seems to keep the temps right under throttle.

It's definitely possible. People posting their i5 results seem to have shown that it's unlikely to be a problem there as they have 8c-10c of headroom.

For the i3's I could see it going either way, that's why I've been trying to encourage people to test and post results. Only certain games make me throttle, seems like the more action and busy scene comps the more likely it is for me. In that alya's reported ~76c for an RPG and then 82c-85c for an RTS it's hard to really know if SC2 represents the highest peak of his temps.

Acer support has taken my laptop back for warranty service, so if it doesn't happen anymore when it comes back that'll be an easy answer. It's an open question for now though my l2 tech (quite good one, btw) had me send it in after Taipei advised that the max operating temps for the 4820tg was 65c-75c which we know everyone is exceeding. Hopefully they'll replace my HS and all will be fine, though he seemed somewhat skeptical. Even if my hardware is in spec, it sounded like there may be some software issues that could get fixed - my understanding is that there is only one fan profile no matter what CPU is being used, with the max fan speed not kicking in until temps where the i3 will throttle. And that apparently gpu temp isn't being taken into account in controlling cooling, only cpu temp. Both could presumably be changed in the DSDT tables of the BIOS as a possible remedy.

I think that I have provided enough results in this thread. I am going to wait for other Core i3 4820TG owners to post temperature and throttling results. Ngaw, I hope that your Core i3 4820TG will no longer have temperature/throttling issues when you receive it from Acer.

U.S. Micro Center - Dallas, TX location
    Core i3 4820TG - out of stock
    Core i5 4820TG - 10 in stock

I know there are Core i3 owners out there.

it's not an error per say.. it's just a notification during a customised install (instead of an express install which is what u were probably doing)

it wasn't working with the laptop's factory BIOS which was 1.04.. so i updated it to the latest 1.15.. but still the same

u can update it in Windows.. u just run the exe

i might try downgrading to 1.13 and see if that helps.. EDIT: just tried and no difference :(

can i get those people that were able to successfully install 10.7's to post their hardware ID's of the 5650 please?

I did some gaming on my new TimleineX yesterday. After about 2 hours of Alien Swarm, my max core temps were:
    Core 0: 84C
    Core 2: 87C

These temps were according to HWmonitor.
I did not notice any throttling but that does not mean there was no throttling. The exhaust from the vent was scorching hot but the rest of the laptop was only slightly warm. In general, I think the i3 version can game pretty decently.

Yep it is! Only about 15 minutes from my house too....

The Y460 had so many problems. I had it for a week and it never ever ran correctly. It would BSOD on boot, then it would also black screen. Sometimes it wouldn't boot at all. The cooling fan ran full blast all the time too, and the Lenovo guys were not too helpful with it either. I was gonna exchange it, but decided to return it for a refund instead.

As far as how it compared, it was pretty much a different experience. While it had the same hardware, the styling was not that great, and actually didn't do anything for me. The screen was decent, and of course no one makes keyboards better than Lenovo. All in all, I was underwhelmed though.

sub par battery life compared to the 4820TG, chasis was thick and fat, black and orange imo is not a nice combination.and it ran uncomfortably hot

i hated its keyboard. 1) its to glossy and somewhat slippery 2) the FN and ctrl key is not where its suppose to be -.-

If you look at the walmart.com website. Under "Store Availability" it will list the 4820T as "Not Sold in Stores". I think it would be better if you look at the 4820TG demo at Micro Center before ordering online.

It gives you full functionality of the function keys and the pretty little animations that pop up when you press them :)

Not too sure what the other software on the acer download site does. ePower Managment I'm guessing, is just some acer software that lets you change power profiles, but I don't mind using the built in Windows power settings.

Anyone else also having a bit of an issue with ATI HDMI audio? When I boot up the laptop while it is still connected to TV, I have to switch between GPU's for it to work. Otherwise video HDMI output works fine but it doesn't find HDMI audio.

I have to say it is fun playing DIRT 2 and SC2 on the 1080p TV :D

From my understanding, those temps (on an i3, right?) are quite likely to have ended up causing your CPU to throttle. The throttling appears to trigger at 85c off of the main cpu temp sensor (which usually is a rough average of the two cores). You might not be noticing FPS drops during gaming depending on what you're otherwise used to, when they occur during the game and how distracted you are by the gameplay. But I expect that if you did log with everest during gameplay and saw temps like those you'd also be seeing the cpu throttle down.

I just noticed that the warranties offered by Micro Center are different for the i3 model vs. the i5 model.

The i3 model has a "1 Year Limited Warranty" while the i5 model has a "1 year International Traveler's Warranty".

Does that mean Micro Center is just importing the i5 model from somewhere out of North America and reselling it? How do these warranties differ anyway? Does purchasing from Micro Center make one into a "bona fide traveler"? :p

If they are just importing the i5 model and reselling it, I wish they could do the same for the 3820TG (i5 model preferrably :)) so we can be guaranteed a warranty. That would probably be a good seller.
