I purchased the last one... and picked up a 8gb G.Skill memory upgrade from newegg for $149.99

    Can't wait :)

About the backLit keyboards will any of the 38XX 48XX keyboards fit in this machine?

Only bad thing I can see is no Bluetooth, does anyone know what acer part# BT module this takes?

****Looks like they got some more in, should sell out pretty fast!*****

Does anyone know what the part number is for the Bluetooth Module for the 4820TG?
I would like to get the latest and greatest 3.0 bluetooth HS but if that is not available the 2.1 spec module should work.

Hey wasup guys. Ive tried everywhere and wanted to see if anyone besides myself is having any trouble trying to overclock their gpu. Ive tried almost every overclocking program, ATItool, rivatuner, AMD gpu tool and havent had success yet. Atitool does recognize my device and tells me I have an average of 500fps but every time I open the program I receive this message "The Kernel Mode Driver does not seem to be running. A device driver is required for communication with your video hardware." I realize I probably have to download a driver but which one and from where. Ive tried all of them on the Acer website. A direct link would be soo helpful,; I just might kiss ya. Any help please.

Hi! I bought this laptop about a week ago here in Malaysia. For some reason i could not find a 4GB one. So in the end i had to get 2GB ram with 620GB HDD. I think the HDD is 5400 rpm? Is there anyway to check this?

In the near future i hope to upgrade to 4GB ram and get a faster hdd if this is not 7200 rpm. For now i will just format and do a clean install.

My screen also has this annoying red dot. Can i use acer warranty to get this laptop replaced? I emailed them about 2 days ago and still no reply..

Is it just me or did Newegg sell out in like 4 hours? Also as a prospective buyer, I was wondering if the 4820tg had any heat problems during gaming such as starcraft 2 or mw2. Compared with the alienware m11x (Which I was looking to buy before I found this lappy), the specs seem incredibly amazing for 400$ less... Is there a reason for this? Thanks in advanced

My 4820 is great, i too looked at the m11x for awhile ... but was just too small as i was replacing my asus netbook which was bout the same size as m11x.

As far as temps go mine is good ... all depends on ambient, my cpu at idle 35-45, gpu at idle 40-50 and gaming cpu/gpu 70-85. Never cpu throttled or any problems gaming for long periods of time ... fan does whirl up abit when gaming but you'd be worried if it didnt.

Plays every game i have (and well) mostly bc2.

My gpu overclocks like well too.

Battery life is nothing short of great, missus has a toshiba L650 same specs and her battery life is 2hrs max and mine is around 6-8 hrs max.

Mine also has 3G which is great ... no bulky usb dongle for me!

The reason this laptop is $400 less is because you dont have to pay $300 extra for the "alienware" brand and $100 of the cool lights the M11x has I must admit. Just bought mines from JR.com. Im sure they have stock :)

It's also larger... larger (normally) = cheaper (to a certain degree... but we do see that here).

Using a 4810TZ here, but I think they are about the same size

It's about 2 inches wider, not much deeper, and a wee thicker in the back (thiner in the front).

It's a 14" display vs a 11.6" display... both at the same resolutions.

I'd of used the 4810 more, if it weren't for the cursed KB.

i was deeply worried about the heating problems as it seemed very common while i was reading the forum. But thanks to your replys, i am set to buy this lappy as soon as it is avaliable somewhere.

Im also wondering if the 4820tgs from all the webistes have brushed aluminum top, because amazon.com is the only site that states it has that feature.

The Core i3 would throttle in some intensive programs (intensive 3D games, intensive benchmarks), but it is fine under normal usage (Starcraft 2, Counter-Strike: Source, watching HD videos, etc). The Core i5 versions tend to get hotter, but I haven't heard of them throttling in this forum.

The speakers are pretty much average and comparable to most laptop speakers. Dolby Home Theater means nothing more than having a few extra features in the Realtek drivers with some enhancements. Do not expect Bose quality sound from a budget laptop.

i noticed you have a daul hd setup.. which hd caddy did you use? and how is the speed/ battery life hit of it? Is that hard drive any slower than the one in the dedicated hd spot? did it increase/decrease battery life any? which hd do you have in each spot? is there a noticeable difference in speed?

My suspicion is that maybe newegg just got one or two in for some strange reason -- perhaps a return came in -- and that this latest announcement was premature to the actual shipment of new computers. Reason being that newegg has always had "ETA: 10/22/2010" on this item, the same arrival date that matched Amazon.com's "3 to 5 weeks" when they first posted it. I think the new shipment will still be available at that date, and the most recent 5-hour availability was a fluke of some kind.

At least I hope that's true, because I went down to Fry's and had the LAST 4820TG in my hands ready to checkout until I realized I would have to pay $83 CA sales tax on top of the $830 Fry's price, putting me over $900 for a computer I can get for $765 from newegg. I walked away from that one, and hope I won't regret it.

So got my backlit keyboard in but still have some flex. The new keyboard is slightly thicker which is making it flex. I am going to tweak the keyboard a bit to get in right. I will post some pics later.

Put some MX2 on the CPU, 5650 GPU and what i think was the chipset, while I had it taken apart. I ran Prime95 for 5 minutes both times. See the the min and max vaules to see the idle and Prime95 temps. I've said it before and I will say it again, I love this fraking laptop

this warranty y'all talk about... did you buy it separately? Fry's didn't seem to be offering any warranty over 14 days just with this purchase. $200 was the cheapest extra warranty I could buy.

I think there was a sticker on the CPU.

On the keyboard, I would guess that you do not have enough of the clip slots filed out or the filing is not uniform. When you get it right, the KB sits perfectly in the space. All you have to do then is bend the KB a bit so the center provides pressure when the sides are clipped in. If you haven't removed most of the small lip on the bottom of the KB, you should.

The 14 day period is probably the in-store return period. Acer provides a manufacturer's warranty for a year.

Has anyone installed a Broadcom BCM92046 bluetooth module onto their notebook and can advise where it actually goes? I am wanting to purchase one off ebay but after removing the backplate over the hdd/ram I can't seem to find any obvious spots it goes.

Does the entire backplate of the laptop need to be removed? If so, anything I need to watch out for when removing it?

I just purchased one of these puppies from Amazon (am anxiously waiting for them to get some in stock) and was curious if the 7805 gets very hot so as to realistically keep on your lap. I'd like to bring it on an air flight later in the winter season.

    Regards!

I could use some help, I just installed settlers 7, and I cant play it at all because of the massive graphics bug I have.

Mine has i5 430m and 5650, clean windows install, latest DX, catalyst 10.8

I played team fortress 2 on highest settings for 2 hours straight and it was fine, so I believe its a software bug, all clocks are on default.
My desktop ati card has no issues at all.

Do you have any idea whats causing it? (See the attachment for details)
    Thanks!

I was on the verge of buying a refurbished Alienware M11x R1/R2
    with the 20% discount.

I'm so glad to have browsed through these Acer forums.

Thank you everyone here for the information and advice.

I've decided to purchase the 4820TG from J&R.
No tax for me. The postage is cheap, and takes only 1 day
delivery to my location in NJ.

I'm still contemplating on ordering a 3820TG from a Canadian retailer.
But I'll try the 4820TG and test its size, weight, and performance.

J&R has an excellent return policy, so I can easily return the 4820TG.

I usually purchase computer hardware from NewEgg, but this time I had
to avoid the tax and J&R is selling the 4820TG at a good price.

I wish there was another method for installing a functional backlit
keyboard without voiding the warranty. The warranty is surely important
if something malfunctions on the 4820TG.

I'll be waiting eagerly from any hardware hackers to implement
power to a backlit keyboard without soldering on a 3820TG/4820TG. :)

I think I've got an issue but I'm not totally sure... When I run the laptop on battery for example, it starts with the Intel graphics, then about 10 seconds after it boots into windows for some reason it decides to switch to the ATI ones. Then another 10 seconds or so later it decides its made a mistake and switches back, is this how it is supposed to work? Or is it supposed to start with the Intel graphics and just stay that way until it's changed or power is plugged in?

The only I have done driver-wise is install 10.8 Catalyst.

Ok, I think I have fixed that double switching business with a reinstall of Catalyst. Now I find the laptop will start with whichever GPU was enabled last and switch depending on whether it was Intel/AMD and battery/power, I'm guessing this is normal?

    Hi

Has anyone in the UK managed to get a hands on the AS4820TG-524G50Mn? (i5 520M, 5650 w/ 1GB). I'm not too fussed on the CPU, more interested in the 5650 w/ 1GB rather than the 5470 w/ 512Mb.

    I ordered one from play on the 24/09 and it's still awaiting stock.. and I've noticed they've removed it from the searchable site (unless you go there directly : Acer Aspire Timeline X AS4820TG-524G50Mn / Core i5 520M 2.4GHz / 4GB / 500GB / 14 inch / Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit / Laptop / Notebook (LX.PSE02.009) - Computing at Play.com (UK))

As I'll be in NYC for a week in November, I'm wondering if it will be better/cheaper to just visit a big retailer and buy something there? Will be in B&H for photo stuff, are their prices on laptops reasonable? Is there any other recommended places?

    Thanks
