Oh I only have to use this one? Schweet.

Where can i configure and buy this laptop online.
I see only amazon and the spec is not quite what I want any other place? -
I posted the links on where to buy this laptop on the first page. -
10.10e is awesome.

HEY GUYS!
I've been away from these boards for a long time (last 100 pages) and just came back to ask if there's been reports of these laptops breaking (yeah, imma ask, don't feel like reading 1000 posts :/ ). Acer's have a reputation for being crap and I just wanted to make sure I could actually recommend this thing
BTW hi Bronsky, amazing that you're still wasting most of your life helping out in this threadMust say I got bored with this after most of the tips and tricks had already been posted...
-
I've also read about someone dropping a TimelineX and the screen broke.
Other than these user errors, I haven't read anything about the laptop itself breaking. Just defects, like the screen displaying vertical lines, etc. But, I believe the vertical lines situation was from a bad batch of manufactured 4820TGs. -

I reformated with win7 ultimate. It takes almost a min flat to boot with the stock hdd. I just got rid of all the other partitions, I hope that is ok. I still made the 4 eRecovery disks and the driver disks.
I read someone complaining about the wireless card being bad or something. It's really good, I downloaded some steam games that I will test out later and the speeds were good. The bigger games I will be doing steam backups on and transferring them over via external hdd. I have a bandwidth cap that I went over last time from downloading all my steam games... grrr stupid bandwidth cap.
edit:
I reinstalled all the drivers from the disk I made earlier, but I used the 3820TG AMD drivers instead for the gpu. Switchable graphics and brightness/sound keys seem to be working the same as before. So yay -
Why in the world does this laptop not get the press the ENVY 14 gets? More battery life and $200 cheaper. Am I missing something?
-
-
That's fine by me. I have a better, less common, and cheaper machine.

I just did some benchmarks in Grid using Fraps...
Fully maxed out the settings.
I did 20 laps in the derby, and screwed up my car a few times. It all took around 13 mins.
At stock on the 4820TG I get a min of 27, a max of 58, and an avg of around 35.
That is very impressive to me. And it all looked great.
Temps reached a Max of 78 and 82C's for my i5 cores, and 77C for the 5650. This was the max. That seems pretty good compared to what has been reported. Right?
I'll play around with Crysis and warhead soon. -
Did anybody bought this laptop? I've heard not so many good things about acers. But this is a good deal.
-
I bought it off Amazon and love it. Great keyboard, touchpad, and speakers. I'd actually like to know what software might me good and if you guys believe it's worth a reformat? I've deleted all the garbage software off the system already, but I wonder if I clean sweep is best. Only problem is I don't have a W7 Home Premium disk on me at the moment.
-
I've had low expectations for past Acer laptops, but this laptop is on a whole new level.
-
I do not regret this purchase. I am falling in love with this laptop and I've only had it for a little over a day.
I recommend it, and I recommend you purchase from Amazon. They got it to me a few weeks ahead of when they said it would be here.
BTW: I just ran a benchmark for TrackMania Nations Forever at stock. Fully maxed out gets 30.4fps. Very very nice. That game is surprisingly demanding and I know this because my desktop only gets a little higher FPS then this. -
May I ask what people are paying for their 4820TGs? I bought mine from Amazon for $800. Seemed like a good deal.
-
What are you guys and gals using to clean the chassis, keyboard, screen, and top of your 4820tg?
-
Amazon seems like the best deal for us. Unless you want to try importing.
In the future I will probably use a microfiber cloth. -
Of course UPS had to come today when nobody was home, so now they won't re-deliver until Monday! -
I was lucky enough to have someone home to sign for it...
I feel for youlol

Yes, they have a warehouse in NJ as of 2003 to help supply the east coast. It is horrible...newegg is such a good site but we have to pay more then everyone else. -

I've joined the 4820tg party! My 7805 came in the mail last week and I've been loving it ever since. Can't really find anything wrong with the machine. I'm thinking of replacing the hdd, but can't even decide on that.
I'm very glad that I decided to pick this baby up, it's ideal for the price. From my perspective, all the bad qualities I've seen mentioned are BS. The build quality is solid, I'm getting great battery life, and my screen seems very clear. I also enjoy this keyboard. It does take a bit of getting used to but I think I'm actually typing faster on it than I did on a regular one.
One question I do have is about closing and opening the lid. On most laptops I believe closing the lid puts the computer to sleep, and opening it automatically wakes it up. For my 4820tg it sleeps just fine when closed but when opened again, I have to hit the power button to wake it back up. Is there any way to make it do it automatically? Thanks!
Overall, very happy to join the owner's club -

So how do you turn down sensitivity on palm check? I've looked through all the settings and can't figure out how to turn it down... cursor lags a second after I type.
Sound from default drivers that came with it seems pretty good. I am listening to music and it all sounds pretty good with headphones. -
-
Just in case someone else has a brain fart in the future and can't find it:
You have to go to Device settings tab -> settings -> pointing -> sensitivity -> and then there it is.
I didn't think to press the plus symbol @ pointing and missed it.
Does anyone else use Scrybe for the touchpad? I installed it and it seems like it could be useful. -
what do you guys think of this laptop
Newegg.com - HP Pavilion dv6-3143us NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
its only 580 bucks and everything is almost the same except 15.6 and 500gb, and i3. Pretty much ~150 cheaper. -
-
I'm actually only doing 22 months, not 22 years.

Uh oh, only a few days of owning this computer and already a blue screen! It happened after I installed skype. Then again when I rebooted, I opened Chrome and it happened again. Both times the title I saw for the few seconds the blue screen was up said something about usb_bug... something? It was fast. No more for a few hours, and the laptop seems to be running fine now. What could have caused this? Should I test my RAM somehow?
Here's the error Windows reported upon reboot though:

Hmm, well yea I guess you should start with checking the ram. Did you reformat? Make sure you installed all the right drivers. And if you did not reformat, maybe try installing updated drivers.
If it is a hardware problem be glad you caught it so soon and send that back ASAP.
A few more comments about this laptop from me. I only ever notice the small "lines" on the screen when I am looking at a white page like this thread for example. Whenever I am in game it looks very nice.
Speaking of game, Crysis runs on all high with no AA at 27 fps. This is with stock everything.
AA seems to really bring the gpu to its knees though, or at least in crysis. -
Anyone have any idea of the next refresh date?!
-
Welcome.....to all the new 4820TG owners.
Congrats!
If you require any help/advice there are so many
helpful and friendly forum members here willing to
give assistance when needed.
@drizzt5, Gildor, and others.....
I was lucky to get the 4820TG-7805 at J&R before it sold out quickly.
Newegg is my favorite electronics and PC hardware website,
but since I'm in NJ, I like to avoid paying additional taxes whenever possible.
Whew! I managed to avoid the $50+ taxes if I had to order it from Newegg.
Another thing is that J&R price matched Newegg's price.
The delivery took only 1 day from Maspeth, NY, even with the free UPS Ground,
to my location in NJ.
Another awesome thing to consider, J&R has an excellent 30-day
return/exchange policy with no restocking fee. You can return/exchange by mail. You can also can bring it to their New York City retail location, there's a customer service dept that'll process it there immediately with no hassles. They're friendly and fast in processing an exchange/return.
So to future 4820TG buyers or any other laptop model,
definitely compare Amazon & Newegg prices, and
consider J&R (if they offer it or have it in stock) for the price match
and the 30-day return/exchange, no restocking fee, even if you opened/used the laptop. -
But consider also there's a lot of discounts and HP coupons available
currently. It'll be slightly more expensive, but you can configure/purchase an HP DV6 with
better specs and even a backlit keyboard.
Consider also the size and weight (6.1lbs) of the DV6-3143US with the (4.6lbs) 4820TG.
The other DV6 models are around 5.5lbs and have the brushed aluminum finish.
If you're comparing the 4820TG with the DV6-3143US,
there's a noticeable difference. The size, weight, performance,
and battery life is clearly the 4820TG's advantage.
So, if you're considering the 4820TG and within your budget, for $150 more, it's surely worth
the price difference. -

Also crucial is having a BF sale of the older SSD's on their site @ $1/gb if anyone is interested. Probably gonna be sold out soon. You might be able to pick up a $128 128GB SSD.
They are refurbished and come with 30 day warranty.

Not going for it though myself because I don't need a SSD yet. -

Only a few things I am concerned about. I have heard the screen is very thin and would be very easy to break as this would break my heart if I bought it and broke it within a few months.
Also Newegg is sold out of these and it seems that it is the only well trusted site anyone talks about around here. I am in Ireland and the stores probably won't have this model at this price so can I risk a different site bringing it all the way to Ireland without breaking it on the way.
I am very cautious about packaging across long distances as I have seen some horrible results.
Can anyone but my concern to rest? -
Even to happier to know that you like the 4820TG.
My concern is the "lines" you mentioned.
I have an AUO LCD panel also. I don't see any "lines" from minimum
to maximum brightness. No lines either from looking at a white page.
At certain viewing angles, the images/colors are faded, washed out,
but that's about it.
The only thing I can see when I'm very close to the screen are the pixels
but no lines.
