Yes, if it just little modification & fixed/optimized it with latest IASL compiler, the size can be smaller.
It is not possible for BIOS to have two version of DSDT in BIOS. There are another table called SSDT(s) which working together with DSDT. SSDT contain specific instruction like CPU speedsteping (P-States & C-States), SATA operation, etc. It is possible (extra) instruction for ATI card is in one of the SSDT table.
Phoenix SLIC MOD can re-size the DSDT if it is just a couple of bytes larger than the original size. It will just zeroed the non essential part, like the header.

BTW, thank you for sharing the BIOS recovery procedure for TimeLineX 3820T/3820TG notebook. The last part, if it doesn't reboot automatically, was not mentioned in the service manual.

Thanks for the info but my computer does not go to standby mode at all no matter how long I close the lid...so I dont think that this method applies to my model..

Yes, I am aware that BIOS has only one DSDT table. I was referring to the fact that extracted DSDT from Windows registry was different from the DSDT extracted from the BIOS file in about six places that represented memory range/location. My pure guess was that it related to graphic cards. Doesn't matter though.
Yes, I know about SSDT. I had to use RWEverything report to find some "missing pieces" needed for DSDT mod.

Yes, you told me that before. But it was more than just 2 byte difference. More like +100. It is Insyde BIOS for that laptop, so must be a bit different?

No problem. It is something that worked for me when everything else failed. Thought I'd share it.

Well, then I guess it is time to RMA.

The different in memory range/location is not a problem. Brightness levels support is depend on the built-in output device (LCD) not the graphic card.
It should be the same even for Insyde BIOS - when re-building BIOS image, individual modules will be compressed before putting all of the modules together (based on their original offset) to formed BIOS image. This is how Phoenix SLIC MOD tool work. Anyway, you will faced difficulty to re-integrate the modified DSDT if you make major modification to DSDT (add additional functions, etc). In your case only minor modification, so you won't faced any problem.

The best/cleaner way to override DSDT is at boot level. However I'm not aware any solution like this for windows. I use modified DSDT this way on a couple of my computers (OS is not windows - to achieve native support for the devices).

There is no option to control C4 in BIOS 1.26 but I found this option:-
    [IMG]
This screenshot taken from BIOS 1.22. It should be the same for BIOS 1.26. Look like all available CX states already enabled by default. Packard Bell TJ75's BIOS is not supported by PBE but I can mod it if you want to unlock (other) hidden options.

    Thanks @kizwan.

Could you do unlock hidden settings at 1.26 BIOS?

    Could you share modified bios?

    Sorry for my bad English.

Is there a ROM for the 8942G that can do these two things:
    -VT
    - RAID option

I looked everywhere but I can't find it. Also, ACER came out with a new ROM for the 8942, anybody knows what it does?

Usually, when BIOS recovery is successful, the computer in question will either automatically shutdown or reboot/restart itself from the BIOS recovery mode. Since none of that happen on your notebook, BIOS recovery is not successful. 4 - 5 minutes is too short. Wait for at least 15 minutes to be sure. If after 5 - 10 minutes it doesn't restart/shutdown itself, press touchpad's right button & wait for another 10 - 15 minutes.

    @computerrob,

I already checked & I found the VT enable bit is set to 1. There is not other lock in BIOS that prevent VT from working. Meaning, the VT option available in BIOS menu does enabled the VT enable bit (MSR register 0x3A). SYMCMOS symbolic dump you gave me earlier also confirmed this. I believe the problem lies on hardware level. Maybe the TravelMate 8210's motherboard (chipset) doesn't support Virtualization technology. I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do about this.

Please provide me one last information. I just want to see the CPUID Hardware Monitor ( HWMonitor) monitoring data. At File, select Save Monitoring data. Please post here the HWMonitor.txt file.

It is built-in tool in Phoenix BIOS Editor (PBE). It is called Setup Table Editor. You can emulate there.

It easy. Identify the chipset used by your Aspire 5920G & check it at Intel website.

I found out that Aspire 5920G have chipset Intel PM965 Chipset & Intel Core 2 Duo T7300. Can you confirmed you have the same specification? If it is, both (chipset + processor) support 800MHz FSB. The memory module also need to be 800MHz FSB to be able to run at 800MHz FSB. You'll need memory module PC2-6400 (DDR2-800). Please install CPU-Z & post here the screenshots of Memory & SPD tabs.

Yes i have an Intel PM965 chipset and an T9300 CPU with 800MHZ FSB and i have also 4GB PC2-6400 from Geil installed. Currenty my notebook is totally decomposed, so i dont can make a screenshot. But all Components are ready for 800MHZ Memory, but the bios dosent support it.

There is MSR register for bus speed but if I'm not mistaken the bit involved is RO - read-only I think. I can try mod Aspire 5920G's BIOS if you want but keep in mind, this is trial & error. There are chances it can bricked your notebook. So, if you want to try make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk. OR if you can re-programmed BIOS ROM using a programming board.

There is nothing we can do since supported memory speed are 533 and 667 only. Try to overclock bus speed to 200MHz using SetFSB. Clock generator for Aspire 5920G is SLG85P... I can only recognized the first five or six characters in the service manual.

I need to sleep now. It's 5am here. :D See you 8 hours later.

PC2-6400 (800Mhz) RAM will boot fine in my PM965-equipped 2510P. The chipset is limited to using only the 266 or 333Mhz SPDTable entry when running at 533 or 667Mhz/800Mhz FSB respectively.

You'll note that the 400Mhz RAM SPDtable entry just slows the timings down anyway. It does not improve performance.

Thank you for your effort and my delay in reply (my old Asus P5p800se with D960 decided to go blank, no post etc... so had to put in place the backup board I always keep just in case..awaiting i9/970 will drop in prices..)

Just a few questions: Could you achieve the choice "IDE Compatible/SATA (if not AHCI)? And a way I can boot from first or second hard drive? The No Raid option would have been really handy...

Before trying with the experiment (I have to gather where the CMOS clear/battery is inside) I wonder if you wish have a last look for the "specific" XP 1.21 Bioses to see if maybe they would be more "workable"
They issued a "XP 1.21 No Raid" and a "XP 1.21 RAID".
I believe that maybe the No raid version could be very close to what can be achieved, at least the boot from any drive and choice "IDE Compatible/SATA even if not Ahci". I got some documentation and ICH7 apparently can work in AHCI if not in RAID mode. I know I am asking you much but maybe that bios (no riad) can be manipulated better. Let alone the Lan/No Lan, Virtaulization, fast back to back transactions enabled and what you can / wish do:
Links for "XP" Bioses 1.21 (unfortunately not in ftp euro) are:
    XP 1.21 RAID: http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...3506&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire 9810&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6

    XP 1.21 NO RAID: http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...3506&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire 9810&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6

WHile thanking you very much for your job done I would await your commments : maybe these Bioses (especially the NO RAID one) are easier and offer more options - and I do not plan to install Vista nor 7 until SP6 - before commencing a (risky) procedure - especially if I think about CMOS clearing etc).

    Thanks a lot

"Aspire 5738G BIOSv1.28 MOD VT" no longer available since it only contain few unlocked options. R2 supersede "Aspire 5738G BIOSv1.28 MOD VT". What is the CPU model? Did you turned OFF your notebook after enabling Virtualization in BIOS? When enable/disable Virtualization in BIOS, system must be powered OFF & ON again for it to take effect.

I am in a bind, and respectfully ask for a modded bios for my Acer Aspire 7740 notebook. I am running the latest v1.16 bios, but I have upgraded to an i7-640m cpu, and there is no microcode update for it. Errors, beeping - help needed. It would be a plus to get an unlocked version of this bios, which would allow access to the hidden/locked settings as well. Thank you in advance - anything I can do in return - just ask.

==== In the meantime I had a look in bios editor on the new bios (reading your tutorial although I do not dare...) and you did a great job on Lan even if to me was enough Lan enable/Disable.

As a green on this in PBE I had a look at "strings" table and if you scroll down up to where there is ====== calistoga template no for resale === or similar, it lists mass storage options such as Ide1,2, etc and Serial Ata1, 2, etc. mode of operation 1,2, etc, enabling all ICH ports or some, etc etc. Apparently there is also a setup bios that can be turned in "service mode".

Without being an hassle (more than I am) - I haven't gathered if after Post the cache of CPU gets turned off - it would be smashing if you could get to the choice of IDE/SATA (so I can setup in Ide mode and later switch to SATA although it seems only 1.5Gb unless you get rid of RAID and can unleash ICH7 at AHCI mode.
Similarly if in Boot options I could get to see (as Sata does) both HD (500Gb 7500rpm) as possible boots. About CPU (7200 is on board) if there is any multiplier or safe enhancement.
I know it is a complex system with International TV/Irda/PCmcia etc.. I gue
ss you have a headache and of course I appreciate your care not to brick the system. So if you could have a look at those 1.21 Bioses if more adapt (especially the No Raid one). I see that from times of my 486/DX4-100 Laptop the Miser and Phdisk save to disk is still there...
By the way, once I will start the process - only after your comments - should I better go for an external FD, a DVD or as you state a Flash stick/memory? I have a stick that with a switch can mimick FD for those F6 situations (that on 9810 never came). The idea behind is that if unsuccessfull (shiver) I would like to create the crisis on the most bootable device. I have a feeling that with that 1.21 No raid Bios maybe you can get it. Don't bother on external/internal Lan power nor booting from Lan.
Even the DTD recovery disks (the Acer ones) are not planned to be used and the EISA partition has been wiped long ago and further changing the disks. I do not know if you wish to have a look at Bios 1.14 of Aspire 2920 to see the Compatible/Sata mode I mean.
Finally, reading your tutorial and Mod tool, certificates etc I would be happy to contribute if wished for SLIC 2 with Oem Ultimate key, maybe by PM so that you can implement how wished (unless you could gather it from the BIOS, I have a sticker).
Thank for what you done until now and await your kind comments if something is feasible. regards

Did you tried press the touchpad's right button? Please try this, follow the steps exactly:-
    - Use this CRISIS package: CRISIS DISK - Phlash16_v1.7.0.18_DiffSize.rar
    1. Rename your notebook's BIOS image (*.WPH) to BIOS.WPH & put it in the WINCRIS folder (where WINCRIS.EXE is located)
    2. Create CRISIS disk with USB key/flash drive using WINCRIS.EXE
    3. Make sure there are three files in the CRISIS disk; minidos.sys, phlash16.exe & BIOS.WPH
    4. Plug the USB storage into a USB port on the bricked notebook.
    5. The bricked notebook must be in power OFF state. Plugged in the battery.
    6. Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC. The Power button flashes once.
    7. Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode. Release Fn+Esc keys after you see activity at the CRISIS disk.
    8. Please wait for 15 minutes. If after 5 minutes it doesn't restart itself, press the touchpad's right button & wait for 15 minutes. Do not press any key to prevent interrupting the recovery process.

*bricked notebook means the notebook where you want to execute/test the CRISIS disk.

So far, I haven't found the CPU microcode update module in the Phoenix BIOS image. Older Phoenix BIOS image have a module called UPDATE0.ROM which contain CPU microcode update. However, on newer Phoenix BIOS image, like used by your notebook, no longer contain this module. Until I found the solution, this request is not supported yet. I'm currently looking into it. If I found the solution I'll make an announcement in this thread.

SATA controllers can operate either in AHCI or (emulated) IDE mode. If AHCI is not enabled, SATA controller will operate in IDE mode. This means your HDD already working in IDE mode. Your notebook's BIOS doesn't allow end-user to enable AHCI & enable/disable RAID. There are simply no (hidden) options for it.

If you look in the Intel ICH7 datasheet, it does mention that AHCI is supported. However, whether this functionality is available or not is depend on the notebook's manufacturer. Your notebook's chipset simply doesn't support AHCI mode because Acer doesn't implement it.

Regarding other strings you see in PBE, unfortunately, I can't unlock them all because it is scattered & I found it doesn't properly linked with each other which make the process to unlock hidden options become more difficult & time consuming. The only way is to unlock & sort the hidden options one by one but it is too many & there are not enough "space" for all of them.

I think so based on the release date you showed to me in your previous post.
For SpeedStep option (MSR 0x1A0 bit 16), Yes, it also present in 2.12.

I only unlock EIST (MSR 0x1A0 bit 20) in latest modified BIOS image (based on BIOS v1.13).

Did you flash BIOS with latest modified BIOS image?

Thank you for your quick and courteous reply - understood and waiting patiently. Your help is greatly appreciated. I will watch the forum for any news.
Hopefully, this will be a resolvable situation, rather than having to revert to old CPU or replace notebook (only about 8 months old). Thanks again -

NEWS! Acer posted bios v1.27 (up from 1.16) today! Happy camper - microcode update included - all is well, and then some. My sincere thanks to KIZWAN for the effort and for just being nice enough to respond to someone in a pinch - I hope I can return the same sometime. For what it's worth, the upgrade from an i7-620m to an i7-640m may not seem like much on paper - but it is very noticeable in real world application. Load times, boot time, render times (Photoshop CS5 64-bit, Reaper 64-bit Audio, Premier Pro CS5 64-bit, etc) all significantly improved. Hope this is useful to anyone else considering this particular CPU choice. Best to all -
