Sure, at this moment these are the trials made without success:
Phlash (using with two different pendrive usb 1GB):
    AS7740G CRISDISK - BIOS 1.16
    CRISIS DISK - Phlash16_v1.7.0.18.rar with Bios 1.18 and 1.9
    CRISIS DISK - Phlash16_v1.7.0.18_DiffSize.rar with Bios 1.18 and 1.9
    Process:
second verison for Acer, if you press for few second (5 to 10) fn+esc the power light stay steady instead if you stay with fn+esc pressed after 20 sec the power light blink two time and the same happens to the pendrive but then never happens also if you press the right click of the pad.
In another trial a try to press another time fn+esc during the blinking phase.
I try also process 1 but in this case the power light never blink.
I wait every time 15 min before restart and do another trial.

I have modified Aspire 8942G's R3 BIOS with CPU microcode update support for CPUID 020655. You can find the Aspire 8942G 3109 Microcode MOD-TEST R4 BIOS at post #804. Use it at your own risk. Please make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk before flashing BIOS with this modified BIOS image.

    Hello kizwan,

my notebook is the Acer Aspire 8942G-434G50Mnbk i5 450M CPU with 2.4 GHz.
    Your new bios ( Aspire 8942G 3109 Microcode MOD-TEST R4.rar) works!
    The error is gone!
I am very grateful to you :notworthy:
I have a CRISIS-USB stick made of your new Biosmod.

How do I overclock my CPU in the bios a little?
    Which value should I start?
I have found the entry "CPU Control Sub-Menu ".
Should I first remove the Biosbattery so the overclock works?

    :smile:Greetings from Germany:smile:

This is good news! :D I'm confident it will work since all cheksums was correct - I double & triple checked it.

Actually you can't overclock through BIOS options/settings. You'll need to use software like SetFSB to overclock your CPU.

    Hello kizwan,

    thanks for your quick response!
I have some pictures of my bios:

Unfortunately, the latest version of SetFSB ( SetFSB: Version 2.3.163.129) do not mean PLL.

    @searcher?,

Those options ( OverClocking Feature, Bus Speed Override & CPU VID Support) already tested by the original OP ( seaman). He found it doesn't do anything.

P/S: For image please use this html code, it will automatically resize to allowed size:-

Sorry, I have no idea (but I'm still looking why it doesn't work). I suggest you to send it back to Acer since it still under warranty. Don't tell them you flashed BIOS, just tell them it failed to start/turn ON. They should repair it since it is not your mistake.

(P/S: I'm not trying to teach you to cheat but since this happen because you tried to update BIOS with original BIOS, this is not cheat at all. Manufacturer should support/fix this without any fee.)

Just saw that you successfully modded BIOS for studio 1557.
I was wondering of you could mod the BIOS for studio 1558. I am only looking for the hidden options(switchable graphics etc.) and no overclocking.
It would be great if you mod a09 for me as a11 is causing some issues.

    a09-http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/R279741.exe

    a11-http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/R284826.exe

oops! I just saw that you have already posted the modded bios.

Just one question for you- Can you unlock the setting(if any) for switchable graphics or for enabling the disabled intel gma hd??

Hi, i own acer aspire 5738G, with JV50, and when i try flash these modified bios, it wont do anything, i tryd R3, R2.. when it says: press any key to start process, i press any key - it just fastly show some 2 short lines , with ones i cant even read, cause closes up instantly (the terminal) and nothing happens. my laptop is plugged in to adapter, battery is 100% full, whats could be wrong?
I would love to use these bios to disable speed step to get higher multiplyer then x11.

To support dual or switchable graphic cards, it require multiplexer. There is no multiplexer implemented on Studio 1558's motherboard. The output is connected directly to ATI graphic card. (I already checked the schematic)

You'll need to flash BIOS in DOS mode, not in Windows Command prompt. Please refer to first post for further information.

Just finished flashing my Dell Studio 1558. If anyone else does it, just don't freak out by the PC re-booting at what looks like it's only part way finished. It suddenly re-boots so don't worry. It happened so fast I still had my flash drive in and when I was at C prompt I removed it and rebooted.

Can confirm the phlash16 file included works.

Can also confirm Crisis disk on page 1 (Phlash16.exe v1.7.0.18) appeared to work as I was prompted and now can't recall what it said. Just to be more than careful about it I used a different flash drive for the Crisis disk.

Fan seemed stuck on high back in OS at first and considered flashing back to stock BIOS but it settled down.

I checked again & I confirmed there is no options linked under "LPC Control Sub-menu". I checked on other computer's BIOS which have this sub-menu & usually stuff like PS/2 Mouse is found in it.

Hello everyone, hello kizwan, hello lloco73!

I'm very impressed by the work you put into this - outstanding! Thanks a lot for all the Tipps&Tricks and the modified bios'!

I'm looking for disabling EIST on an Acer Travelmate 5730 (5730-652G25N T6570, to be more complete). I've looked through this whole thread, however, my model is mentioned only once in post #143:

I've verified that on the Acer support site, the bios update files for the Travelmate 5730, Extensa 5230 and Extensa 5630 are binary identical. Does this indeed mean that a modified bios for any of these two listed Extensa models would very likely also work for my TM5730? If so, which one should I prefer? The one linked from the fourth post,

or rather the file linked from post #88,

    ?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm now making shure that CRISIS restore works before moving on...

Yes, I just checked again a couple of minutes ago. Travelmate 5730's BIOS is identical with Extensa 5230's BIOS & Extensa 5630G's BIOS.
    Compatible models:-
    Detail comparison:-
    TravelMate 5730_Extensa 5230
    [IMG]
    TravelMate 5730_Extensa 5630G
    [IMG]
    - Extensa 5230's BIOS
    - Extensa 5630G's BIOS
In either modified BIOS image, there is an option to enabled or disabled Intel SpeedStep. Is this what are you looking for?
    This is recommended action. :)

There is modified BIOS image for Aspire 8935G (based on BIOS ver 3207) at post #468. There is no hidden option for changing/controlling CPU multiplier. Are you asking me to modified BIOS for dual-IDA support?

I already told you there is no overclock options in BIOS. You'll need to use software like SetFSB or ThrottleStop to overclock.

    Hello kizwan,

thanks a lot for your prompt reply!

I tried the BIOS repair option first, with the official Acer Bios v1.34 to make sure I could see that it worked. The "CRISIS DISK - Phlash16_v1.7.0.18_DiffSize.rar" file worked for me, whereas the first one ("Acer Aspire 9420 BIOS Recovery.rar") did not. By the way, I suspect that for those people who are having trouble to get the BIOS repair option working it might be useful to replace the phlash16.exe from the crisis package with the one that comes with the official bios that you want to restore. Just a thought, micht be worth a try.

Exactly. The modded BIOS works just fine.

Thanks a lot for your help! Very much appreciated! :)

    Hi,
i have installed the modified bios for acer travelmate 4673wlmi to unlock some options and it works.

But i would like to update my t2300e cpu (yonah) to a merom t5600 or t7200

It should be technically possible but i dont know if this bios contains the cpu microcode. In otherwords i would like to know if merom is supported with this bios.

Software to make the BIOS screenshots? I think people are using cell phones or point-and-shoot digital cameras. Since there's nothing but the BIOS running at the time, you can't run any image-capturing software on the PC.

Speaking of BIOS pictures, but in the reverse direction, is it possible to change the BIOS "splash screen" graphic (on Dells, either the big blue boxy Dell font, or on newer systems, the Dell-in-a-circle one)?

Dell used to make a splash tool available to let users change this, but on all of the models from the last several years, it hasn't worked, instead saying that a BIOS update is needed to enable the function. I think that's the generic error message from the tool, back when splash support was being added to the BIOS as it was revised.

This BIOS doesn't contain CPU Microcode Update for Merom processor, at least for T5600 & T7200. I prefer you tried to upgrade the processor first before I mod the BIOS. If your notebook unable to boot (no POST at all) with Merom CPU, that means it is not BIOS fault, it just simply means the Merom CPU is not supported.

    @MoInSTL & @Terry,
About the screenshot of the BIOS screen, I use Phoenix BIOS Editor (PBE) to produced it. It is called simulated BIOS screen. However, newer BIOS is not compatible with PBE (can't open with it). This is an example of simulated BIOS screen produced using PBE:-

    Ok, thanks for the info.
Well I dont want to waste money on a cpu that wont work and perhaps a bios mod could help as ive read that the socket supports these cpu's but need a bios update and acer doesnt have any bios updates for this model.

Like the old mac mini also had a t2300 and could handle withoud bios updates t7200 thats what made me think..

If T7200 or T5600 does work on TM4672WLMi, you don't need modified BIOS image with microcode update. If it does supported you can boot with T7200 or T5600 but you'll be greeted with a warning message. You can continue by pressing F1. This is an example of the warning message:-
    [IMG]
To fix this warning message, you'll need a modified BIOS image with new microcode update.

If it doesn't boot at all. Meaning blank screen, no POST at all. Modified BIOS with new microcode update won't be able to fix it.

Too bad it isn't compatible. Thanks for the reply though.

    ------------------
Back in the day, plain old print screen on a parallel port with some printers worked. And there is the screen capture Kizwan uses. But he replied that it isn't compatible with newer BIOS. That's what I was asking about. ;)

Hey KIZWAN, i cant create bootable DOS DISK using ur tool to format my flash drive. it says that flash drive is write protected.. - witch is not, and i can write, delete flash files, or format using windows explorer, or other apps.
Is there other way to create that DOS bootable disk? if there is, please tell me step by step. Thanx in advance :)

    Kizwan,

have you an idea, why there VGA bioses for Nvidia G73 and 7400 are indside the bios 1.19 for the Aspire 3820TG?

The models don't have any Nvidia GPU, they are only with the AMD Mobilitys and Intels i-core GK on the market.

    Thank you

At Kizwan: Ref 9810-6829 Sorry for being a hassle but I have a real messy Bios and am stuck with it.

Thx for your message and attention. The fact is that 9920 (same as 9810 except for CPU and having 2 HD) offers the AHCI/IDE option. May I ask you if you could have a look/compare 9920 Bios and 9810 1.21 No Raid? 9800,9810,and 9920 share/have all the same schematics and components except for CPU (they are all built by Inventec for Acer) and I had a conversation with a technician with confirmation that 9920 (or 9915 in some markets) is the same equipment that 9810-6829 except for CPU (and having two HD). I asked officially to repair this situation since if I boot in no quiet mode TPM errors and a stop with "Press key to continue" and the "2005 Q1 Bios" (two years before the machine was ever shipped on the market...).

ICH7 can do AHCI if you don'enable also the load of RAID mode.

While I expect attention from the manufacturer since bios for 9810 dates back to 2005, two years before selling the laptops. (I leaned tonite you can enable AHCI also in Win2k since ICH6 onwards...see Lenovo/IBM customer care link at Lenovo Support - Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows 2000 - ThinkPad for the benefit of all). I would appreciate if you could have a look into it. While I rely on the manufacturer reaction which I pressure on evident matters, As a backup solution (or primary one I rather say) I would appreciate your help. If it is a very time consuming matter I could consider to make a hire/donation (PM) to balance your effort? (don't mean to be rude but I am very stuck with a wonder machine much as Ferrary running as a 2CV on three wheels...). Sorry for having been blatant and you do wonders. I can accept what can't be done of course but 9920 demonstrates (same chipset) that has a decent bios and AHCI can be enabled. Maybe you can enable a SATA "non IDE" mode that the Intel matrix storage manager could accept to go AHCI 3Gb.. Sorry for asking again after some time and the length of msg but .... I had to reinstall (again) and I could patch Win2k setup routine to accept in native mode LBA very large HD (apparently impossible and a line of code is enough) so i can gather something but BIOS goes beyond my capacities, despite in the PC since VIC20 times. I understand it should not be my (or anyone) task to spend and have problems on alpha bios equipped machines (especially when over 2k USD) running as a dog (let alone Ferrari...) and waste time in crashes before 2 years later understanding the problem. Nor should be your duty, especially as a volunteer, to solve those problems. Visiting websites, schematics and seeing Inventec website where a basket of gold eggs is there I think gives a loud idea...

Sorry for the "blog". I rely on you, if you can. On my side I leaned a lesson that even looking close sometines you must consider many more things than normal. And IBM/Lenovo is still IBM/Lenovo...until now, especially for support. Regards and compliments for your activity. With esteem

Forgot the link to ICH7M Specs/registers by Intel to ease (if wished):

I went through it and here a link:
Feature capability can be read in D31:F0:Offset E4h

(from Page 50 and 196 of Intel ICH7 Datasheet)

That means your flash drive is faulty.

This is because usually a group of notebook models shares same BIOS.

I'll look into it. I'll unlock other hidden options as well. For the meantime make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk.

    Hi,

I just found out that maybe BIOS recovery on certain newer Acer notebook can be a bit different. Well...BIOS recovery should be straight forward on 5740G (comment on 5740G is in the next paragraph). The different behavior are:-
    • it might reboot after triggering the BIOS recovery mode (by pressing the hotkey). Just let it happen. It may reboot a couple of time before it successfully recovered corrupted BIOS.
    • the notebook turn off after triggering the BIOS recovery. Don't worry, just repeat the steps for BIOS recovery.

About BIOS recovery failure on 5740G & also to all notebooks, I believe this is caused by bad CRISIS disk. To prevent creating bad CRISIS disk, make sure to follow these precautions:-
    • create CRISIS disk in 32-bit OS, preferably Windows XP.
    • if using USB flash drive for CRISIS disk, make sure to use one with size no more than 2GB.
    • if using USB flash driver for CRISIS disk, make sure to use common brand like Apacer & Kingston.
    • use latest version of phlash16.exe or use the one came with original BIOS package. The latest, the better. Usually failed BIOS recovery is because of this.

Can some1, PLEASE, make a video of using a crisis disk on a aspire 5740g?
