    bga soldered cpu lowers the quality of the chip, means running at lower frequency than better quality chips at the same voltage. from pure gaming perspective sure they dont need lots of cpu power but eventually they'll need it, i mean cpu improvements are so little year after year GPUS are starting to bottleneck them, starting with 980 then 1080 sli.

    but for people who wanted to upgrade m18x to 980m they could do it because MXM was there, or the person who purchased 3630QM could upgrade to 3940XM because it is socketed. even though those upgrades are old technology, by no means they are weak in performance.

    a new skylake CPU clocked at 4.1-4.2ghz is around 4.6-4.7ghz of old 3940xm but with exception u dont have to buy an entire new computer.

    tbh, its not overreacting, i won't mind soldered hardware, i mean look at the motherboard has a bunch of stuff soldered onto it but the idea not able to upgrade or possibly get the best after paying so much is absurd. also the idea having to replace entire motherboard that will be extremely costly.

    BGA in this size chassis is meaningless. Almost big as a mini desktop. With BGA!! I'm shocked :wacko:

    A part of me dies when I hear "want to upgrade... Get a desktop".

    @sticky
    Why should I get a desktop if I want to upgrade? Why should desktops exclusively be the only upgradable platform if it can be done in laptops too? Give me 1 good reason?

    We know for sure that desktop hardware working as intended in a laptop. Even with a nice overclock. And most of the ODM/OEM's know this and could easily push out laptops for performance enthusiasts. But if all other is OK with soldered trash... OEM' will continue to make only thise unwanted so called high end noteBooooook's.

    More like they're forced by intel to use the bga cpu.

    Great way to clear out bad silicon, use it in the enthusiast laptop and make it BGA so we can't do a silicon lottery. Maybe that's why the price can be as low as a 6700HQ (ARK msrp), no binning like the old XM/MX CPU.

    Yes we know Intel can be rid of their not so useful silicon, but OEM's have what many laptop models? They could easily use quality silicon in one or two of their models. This isn't a Intel case!! All the blame is on laptop OEM's. As CEO MR. Azor in DELLIENWARE so nice said... Use of desktop processors in their laptops, will make a worse system. Of course desktop processors will make a worse system if you don't want to invest in better cooling and Firmvare. You know.... This cost money. Cheapest possible will gain more money for the shareholders and those in the top.

    probably lazy to make new motherboard design, especially since that costs more and less people will buy it
