I am looking for a place to buy replacement batter for 4820TG, My understanding is that the 4820T, 3820T and 3820TG all have the same type of battery. Where can the 6 cell 66mah battery and the 9 cell 99mah battery be bought? I cant find a place anywhere, Please help.

Hi, one more question please.... Why does Windows (OEM one) says it has 4GB RAM installed, but usable is only 3.6 GB? Its 64 bit OS, so it has all the adress space it needs....

Sorry i am in the USA. But could be open to buying from another country. Just need a Trustworthy vendor.

I saw these vendors, but they do not look legitimate:

Have you tried calling Acer Service Center in Texas? They might be able to order one for you. The battery you show in your link looks nothing like the original 9 cell.

No, I did not know they had a center there. All in All it seems hard to get in touch with or locate anything acer. Do you know the number?

The batteries seems to be for the 4810 or 3810 models not for the *820 models.

    Edit:

After a fast search it seems, that only bad copies on the online market at the moment. The copies have only 4000mAh, 4400mAh or the better one 6000mAh. (all 6 cells) The original Acer one has 6200mAh.

After calling several numbers, and the run around I got my answer. Currently no one sells the batteries for the 4820tg or 4820t Model. None of the of Acer repair centers or accessory stores. like Mundo Corp which they advised me I had to call to get the part. After finding out that Mundo Corp did not have the part, they gave me the sales number for Gateway, however you cant get to talk to a person, and when I finally got it to transfer to a person I got an error message saying the phone got not transfer and they disconnected me. Finally I called 866-695-2237 and found out how you can get a new battery. Acer will sell you one directly if you call that number and you have your laptop registered. HOWEVER they will only sell you the battery type for your model. Meaning if you have the 4820TG that came with a 6 cell battery, they will only sell you a replacement 6 cell battery and not the 9 cell battery. And of course if you have the 4820T they will only sell you the 9 cell battery and not the 6 cell battery... HOPE this helps!

    What is your charge-rate?
I have a 6 cell battery and a 60W charger, but it only charge at 18-19 Watts, so it uses more than 3 hours :(

Not a Problem. They Quoted me 85.00 to 90.00 Dollars delivered (including tax) for the 6 cell battery he would not quote me on the 9 cell as it was not for my model.

It doesnt dimm screen (windows does it by switching to power saver) so it only switches graphics and nothing else. U can press it while plugged in and info will pop out that u can only use it while on battery.

First North American Acer 3820TG on life support:

I spent the better part of my afternoon at a site investigation with an environmental scientist, drawing groundwater samples from monitoring wells at a contaminated site. I had my 3820TG in my briefcase, which was in the consultant's trunk along with about 30 1 QT samples of contaminated groundwater. A piece of heavy equipment hit the car, crushing a part of the trunk and smashing many of the sample bottles. My briefcase was sitting in about 8" of contaminated water when I got to it.

Before I could even touch it, it had to be decontaminated with de-ionized water (yes - soaked with water) and then it could be removed from the smashed trunk and put into a plastic bag. I immediately rushed it over to my company's tech support who took it out and grimmaced. :( The 3820TG had some tiny chemical/solvent burns on the case but was dripping water when it was removed from the bag. My briefcase and everything in it was trashed.

The only test he could do in the short run was test the battery after removing it, which was completely discharged. A bad sign I am told. The notebook is laying open on the tech's workbench drying out. I am told that the prognosis is not good. :( He did, however, compliment me on the backlit KB/switch installation. :)

The good news is that it might be covered by my company's casualty policy which covers up to $10K worth of damaged field equipment. I'm waiting to hear from the insurance adjuster if they consider a portable laptop as field equipment.

I have already sent Computeruniverse an email to see if there is any way to get a replacement unit from them. I would like a UMT model if I can get it but I need it sent as soon as possible. Hopefully, I'll hear from them tomorrow.

If not, I will probably order from PChome right away. Luckily, I am a fanatic for backing up my system and no data was lost. I don't even want to think about the hours of work that I have put into that unit that are probalby down the drain. Oh well! At least nobody was hurt and the computer is replaceable and it is likely covered by my company's insurance. Thank God I still have my 1410T as a backup and the SD card, with all of my firm's active documents was not in the Acer at the time of the accident (it was in the 1410T which I was using to record sampling locations).

    Bronsky

OH ... Just_a_nick, I would not worry about checking up on that speaker anymore. :D

Wow, Bronsky that is one messed up accident. Glad you weren't hurt. Who could have remotely predicted such a freakish occurance. Hopefully you will be able to salvage your CPU at least. Maybe the contaminated water will mutate the chip, allowing to overclock to 5.0GHz.

    Good luck with ComputerUniverse.

Well it looks like it is made for the 3810T and 4810T series and not the 820 series. Per another poster, and it does look different then the 9 or 6 cell batteries i have seen. Also the Website does not look legit. I tried to do a search on the site and found very little information

Thats right, but my girl friend ordered the 4820t series which comes with the 9 cell battery. So i stole that (shhh dont tell) and gave her my 6 cell. She does not need the battery life. Also since she has the 4820T series I can call the customer service number using the serial number of that unit order a replacement 9 cell battery. So Basically, find a friend or someone that has the 4820t series and have them order the 9 cell battery for you!!!

    Greetings fellow 3820TG owners!

I just wanted to share an update on WEI scores that my friend and I noticed:

Basically, I purchased his 2GB DDR3 stick from his 3820TG and added it to my laptop. This took me from 5.5 to 5.9 memory on the WEI. We then placed a nice GSKILL 8GB DDR3 kit into his laptop (on sale for $159 on newegg) and his laptop hit 6.8 memory on WEI! HOLY CRAP!

Both memory sets are rated at 7-7-7-20 timings.

    $159 sale ends today: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...re=4GB_8GB_DDR3_SODIMM-_-20-231-294-_-Product

Well, if it fails, it fails. I can always sell the card if it doesn;t work.

Schadenfreude aside, there are a couple other routes I can pursue - Either getting my mitts on a (seemingly impossible to find) Samsung mini PCIe SSD that conforms to the mini PCIe standard, or putting in a Commell mini PCIe USB 3.0 card, powering it from one of the existing USB 2.0 ports and finding a little space inside to put a 64GB Super Talent Express RAM Cache (or similar) with the shell ripped off...

I'm happy to be pushing the envelope. It's actually been a fun, satisfying experience and once I get the peices together and functioning, everyone (who has the means) can use my experience as a guide.

Even if the SSD idea is a total bust, I still have a machine with dual mini PCIe slots. Maybe I can throw in a firewire card...

    Hi all

Would sticking 1333MHz (PC3-10666) Ram in the 3820TG actually run at that rated speed or does it only run at a max of 1066MHz (PC3-8500)?

    Thanks

Wow bad luck bronksy, its almost as if you knew something would happen to your notebook from previous comments that someone would pinch it or it would be dropped or something.

The SD should still be ok I think. At lest try and boot it up in other machine once everything is dry.

Using that PCIe USB3 card I do have an idea of replacing my two left side usb2 ports for usb3 ports :) However since I still use my built-in internal 3g modem I will hold off on such a mod for now. But its a funture planned mod, unless Acer release a USB3 updated model of the timelineX

This kind is stuff always happens to me. My old MGB wound up on the bottom of the Avalon Bay about 3 weeks after I finished a frame-up restoration.

Just got off the phone with the Tech. He thinks that the unit may not be so dead afterall. :p He says that, to the extent that he can check, the motherboard looks decent but has still has not put any power on the board. I'm crossing my fingers. Although he tells me the water did get in the Acer, he does not think that it got in to any appreciable degree - amazing!

The Acer was in the center pocket of a 3 pocket briefcase and it looks like it may have protected it better than I though. I am really amazed as I still have the image in my head of them spraying my briefcase with decontaminating water.

In hindsight, I think the portability of the 3820TG made me way to overconfident in taking it everywhere I went. Everytime I left the office, I took it in my briefcase. I was carrying it in a leather briefcase out to jobsites 2 or 3 days a week.

Way back in this thread, I had originally suggested that I was going to get an aluminum briefcase to carry the notebook in. I think the Acer would have been untouched in a Haliburton ultrathin. All of the other engineering equipment on the sites are carried in protective haliburton cases. Any replacement unit will get that protection.

So, at the moment, I'm a bit torn. I don't know whether to wait to see what the story is with my unit or just order a unit from PCHome. Although my 1410T has been a lifesaver, it is not a replacement for the 3820TG, even for a short time. If any parts are needed for the 3820TG, I don't think they are going to be readily available if anything is wrong. Who knows Just_a_Nick, I might be able to use that replacement speaker afterall. I can always sell the replacement notebook if mine is okay. I could just keep it stock for now and register it for a warranty when I get it. Sounds like a plan.

Well as long as you can still take the 540m and SSD out of it, they might be fine. Or the whole laptop itself may just pull through!
