Hey, im sorry if this was already addressed, its just hard looking though pages of information, but can anyone enlighten me to the material construction of the 3820TG chassis?

    For example,
I believe the external lid is a brushed aluminum sheet over plastic.
Is the rest of the body a gloss or matte plastic for the palmrest, bezel, underbelly.

I dont think there are any metal polymer alloys used in the notebook but if there is, please correct me cause i would love to be wrong.

Also address flex on the machine if possible too, Im already aware of the slight keyboard flex. I went to a staples and tried out a similar "floating island" keyboard on another acer notebook and noticed significant flex of about 1-2mm with mild pressure.

    Thank you

So far, the only I7-620M 3820TG models were from the Polytech school computer sale. They are sold out. I don't know of any others for sale.

Cyberport does not ship to the US. To be honest, I'm still wondering about computeruniverse.net. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from them and see my unit in the hands of a shipper. BTW, they have an I7-620M/HD5650/160GB ssd 4820TG in stock for 1,200+ euros.

Palmrest and underbelly are matte, sadly the bezel is glossy (I wonder who's the genious that keeps designing those)

NO flex on the 3820 keyboard, while very relevant flex on the 4820. the 3820 is overall quite sturdy. Obviously, the screen lid flexes a lot, but I personally don't care about that (in fact it's even better)

would the new thermal paste improve heat reduction of the i7? really wondering why i can't go beyong 660/1060 with overclock. i think the procie is limiting the process. :(

No, I don't think so. You just get a monday version of the ATI GPU which is not as good as the other one.

Or with other words ' happens'.

@Bronsky: you didnt' get a shipping notice yet? Perhaps you should call / mail them, since the Acer Aspire 3820TG-5454G64nks with i5-450m is in stock and at least in Germany you have the option for 24h express shipping. There are lots of shops in Germany that have this model in stock now.

My Computer Universe account shows the replacement order processed. :D The Status is: "in stock - ready to ship"! At this point, I am just waiting for the next status report, which should indicated that my notebook has shipped. It still lists DHL as the shipper. I don't think there is any other option. As long as it leaves the store, I can wait. I just want to know that it is on its way.

My keyboard is on its way too. If Computeruniverse ships tomorrow, both should get here around the same time (CU said in their original email that the replacement unit will ship on Wednesday). It looks like my little story of Germany and the Black Forrest may yet come true. Final price, $949.97 which includes DHL shipping. Actual cost of the unit is $876.56 USD. ;)

I hear there is a party at Jeffreybaks' house tonight. :p

Yes I can vouch for them, my 3820TG was from them. No its all in German, the OS and keyboard. hence why i installed Windows 7 English and did a keyboard swap. I do however recommend you get the UPS delivery if you can. For a like 6 euros more its worth it. DHL delivery took about 10 days from Germany to Spain

I think the toshiba R700 will be the best option against 3820...

I've been waiting several months for the acer to sell in spain... and now there are better options in the market...

Hey guys, just stopping by for a small update on my 3820.

I just returned from 4 days at Dreamhack, the worlds largest LAN party. And the thing performed beuatifully, no heat or performance issues. :)
Unfortunately, during that time a few drops of coke got on the keyboard(not my fault), so I lifted out the keyboard and cleaned it with a moist cloth, seems to have done the trick.
While I was in there, and had a look at the flexing keyboard issue. A simple solution I came up with was to put some double sided tape(with the protective paper still on the upper side) spread out on the black non-circuit parts of the plastic.
It's now flex free, stable as a regular keyboard.

    A few crappy photos;

It's not pretty, but it works. Just gotta make sure the glue in the tape doesn't suffer from the heat.

Is this the full german text, or is it your google translation ;)

I think they're telling you that the shipping address is equal to your billing address... usually DHL hands out the tracking number to the shop and they provide it.

So I finally got to play with a 3820 today... And I tried one with a i3, which was interesting!

    1) The Display, is completely normal. The problems with it, applies to 80% of all Laptops out now. Maybe 90%! Only high end Dell/HP, Sony and Apple displays seem to be above the standard. Nothing is wrong with it. Also no flex on the display, is nice!

2)When the machine is closed, it looks really nice. The top has a nice color and feel to it. Not a fingerprint magnet.

3)The Keyboard is fine. Yeah, there is some flex but not that bad. I was happy to see that it was nothing like the 5810 I had tried weeks earlier. Flex could be an annoyance for the hardcore typists, but the keyboard itself is fine. Really, there are lots of worse keybords out in laptops.

4)there was no battery in the model I tried, so it was hard to judge size, but the dimensions was impressive. it felt much smaller than a macbook pro 13 that was almost next to it. it felt like the screen was the largest thing about it.

5)trackpad.. defintely not a Macbook Pro trackpad, but then again what is?

    Seemed like good stuff...

Hi guys I upgraded to a Intel Wifi Link 6200 N wireless mini half card today and just to report this mod is worth it 100% Signal strengh is about 30% better than the Atheros. While its not a bad card, this Intel has better range.

Just from here the Atheros got 5 networks with range.
With the Intel WiFi Link 6200 I now see 9-10 networks. So the range is much improved.

You can grab them cheap too of ebay, just be careful of ES versions...
