Tested unit. then swapped CPU's and tested again.
Not the i3-370m, which would do better than the i3-350m.

    i5-460m 2.53GHz,
    3dm2k6 (750/1200) 10124, sm2-3857, sm3-4791, cpu-2979 (cpu-86, gpu-72c) 64bit

    i5-460m 2.53GHz,
    Stock: 3dm2k6 = 7577
    , sm2-2710, sm3-3372, cpu-2975 (64bit)

    ----------------------------------------

    i3-350m, 2.26ghz,
    3dm2k6 (750/1200) 9429, sm2-3752, sm3-4650, cpu-2388 (cpu-75, gpu-87c) 64bit

    i3-350m, 2.26ghz,

Just got the 3820tg today :)

So I am trying to make system image, but windows won't give me the option when I click on back-up files?

Do I have to use the Acer Utility? Have they disabled the Windows one?

    Thanks

I didnt do a reimage yet, but it still shouldn't happen considering that it's a fresh windows install (by acer).

Found the above from a September post in this thread. Since I should be picking up my new 3820tg on Tuesday, I want to make sure I understand the backup process, as I intend to immediately install a new HDD.

Am I correct in my understanding that eRecovery does not require physical media - there is an option to create ISO files instead, correct? If that is the case, then I'll just do that right off the bat, then run ABR, and then install Win7 off of a USB key I prepared last night.

From there it's just a matter of drivers right?

    Thanks.

Man, I have not used Windows 7 and really not used Vista at all, so I am sort of just lost trying to get myself around, lol.

I have a system image made, but I don't have a DVD drive yet, so will have to wait to make system repair disk.

    What exactly is ABR?

Thanks for the link - I was looking for that post. I still am unsure, though, if eRecovery allows creation of an ISO instead of just burning to a blank DVD. Hopefully it does, as the 3820tg does not have an ODD.

You can burn the ISO to a virtual DVD on a USB drive. You can also burn it to an external HD. I think you need a DVD or USB for the recovery disk however.

Sounds good - I've got an external USB hard disk. I'll specify to create all four ISO's to that location and when that's all done, ABR, then boom, new Win 7 install. I really wish I had this thing already. I'm chomping at the bit to get at it!!!! :D

One good thing about the lame delivery process, however, is that I might just actually receive that aceroutlet.ca keyboard replacement by the time the actual laptop arrives. That would be nice, then I could swap in the new KB prior to the Win 7 install.

hendrikson thanks a lot for posting about your 1.19 bios and tweaked drivers from omega. This fixed my issues and ran same clocks as you 705/1100 and no problems in games. ATItool shows loads of errors but otherwise everything is fine and it fixed my freezing issue.

Question fo you, is that absolute maximum you got out of your acer ?

Am I the only one who is suffering from the fan cycling happening with BIOS 1.17 and 1.19? At the moment I am trying a KBC 1.13 + BIOS 1.19 combo, I hope nothing goes wrong.

I wrote to Acer support and they replied that I should send in my computer for a repair!

BTW I made a direct link for all 3820TG drivers:

I have bios 1:19 and I haven't really noticed anything different other than the fact that I get a small surge when the unit is idling and would not have triggered fan operation before.

Hey guys, do you know where i could download the ati mobility driver 5650 for windows xp 32bit? I've been looking around but i seem to find nothing. On acer's website, everything is for windows 7. Even the other drivers don't work.

Same here, I commented on this before. I think its just the GPU that does this fan surge? Doesn't seem to be the CPU fan, at least from what I can tell.

Depends on what you are going, if there is flash etc. My 5650 is idle at around 48 degrees, But if I OC it that jumps up a bit, even on idle.

    Conguratulations Acer and LG

If you buy this product you gain natural bonus of nightvision for your eyes

Briefly, I am using this since 3 weeks and almost without a break, day and night and it has left brightness fog in my eyes. I guess it is caused by led screen's light but strangely I can see objects better in low-light vision however because I lost contrast I can't see the details in low light vision. So I gained an ability but lost another.

I am not sure what I am going to do... Maybe this is caused by all led screens but I read here some problems about LG panels already...

OK I have now nightvision in my eyes but also this costs a little bit pain in them and I think of giving up using this.

If you want natural nightvision enchantment for your eyes buy this product ! You can't miss it !

    Thank you for your experience.

I have big problems with this screen too, you can see here :
    Here

I've contacted the Acer after sale departement, they gave me a return coupon with no more comment.
(If I change the unit, I'll have no more proof of this default, if things go further, so I'm wondering what to do...)

It's my third day without using the computer, I've recovered a barely normal vision, but not perfect...

I'm not crazy about the display size or the use of an Atom Z540. I would prefer a better aspect ratio and a CULV processor. But, the Slate is the only business class slate on the horizon with a digital pen. Since my main use for this is editing and commenting on PDF's while traveling (surfing and email as well) I don't see anything else on the Horizon. With the delay, we are not likely to get them before early December and that will allow me to return it if something more promising shows up at CES in January. HP has a 30 return/trial period. They only charge a $15 restocking fee.

Because of the delay, HP has discounted the price a bit for those of us who ordered on the first day (10/22).

    Bronsky

BTW, it is so nice to have the Acer done (again). It feels perfect. I bent two of the F keys (closed the display without having the KB clicked in place and 2 keys bent) but they still work. I'll probably order a new KB just to make sure everything is perfect on this unit. I'm lovin it - again.

I'm not going to jinx myself again by saying what can possible go wrong with this unit now, so, I'll leave it at that. ;)

Well, yes I would say so. If I go above 152 BLCK on the CPU I get a random bluecscreen ram stack error after say 5 - 10 minutes.

Anything above 705 Mhz GPU I end up having a driver rest after 30 minutes of gaming (GPU Core related I think)
Pushing the ram higher than 1105 ish I get artifacts so not good.

CPU @ 152 BLCK and my GPU running at 705 and 1100 Mhz seems about the limit for my machine. If I want it to be 100% stable which i do. I may or may not add an extra 4GB of ram.

Defiantly not upgrading the CPU to a i7 640m, so far it seems the i5 580m is the faster CPU when overclocked. I7 640m's weren't good at overclocking, like the i7 620m's.

@Bronsky, Good to hear your happy with your 3820TG up and running again on a i5 540m. I could handle the Atom CPU in the HP slate, not that 1024 x 600. Just crushes most websites up and PDF's etc, you need to use the horizontal scroll bars. (Annoying!)

I do a little website design from time to time and nothing annoys a designer more than using non standard narrow screen resolutions.

If I could push a 370M to 3.7ghz, I would retire from my profession and OC gaming computers for a living. :D

Not enough to keep me awake at night. ;) Any time I can get a 30% OC I'm happy. It's been a long road. :D

Okay ... now time to DL 10.10e and see what I can do with the GPU. I am seriously considering installing the Firepro drivers and making this 3820TG a true mobile workstation. It has the power now.

Guys sometimes I play older games and the monitor has no auto adjust button like modern LCD s and I get a box view and 2 annoying large columns instead of a stretched wide screen view.

Some people said I can adjust it in catalyst but there it seems the option is diabled.

If you have ever played games like navy field you must have understood me. Help will be appriciated. Nvidia users could do this in this game but I have troubles with it.

You can change the resolution of the game using regedit, just look for the software and modify using decimal/hexadecimal not very sure, but surely you can change it to the notebooks native resolution so it'll be full screen. :)

I'm currently not home atm, but try to see if you can find an option to allow the graphics card to handle scaling or something to that effect in the catalyst options. I think I experienced this when I first plugged my laptop into my external monitor (acer h243h).

My Catalyst control center says that the new Acer driver is Catalyst version 10.10.
