There is a way which involves meddling with the registry, but I've forgotten which keys to modify :/ It's possible though, but you're looking at the wrong place :) It's something to do with modifying the keys which control if bluetooth is enabled on startup and duplicating them to force wifi to be disabled on startup.

Xp made a huge difference with my gpu oc! At 650/1050, it was more stable and 200 points higher than my benchmark using win7. In fact, with these clocks in win7, 3dmark06 crashes instantaneously in deep freeze. Xp is still a better choice for gaming i suppose.ü

so i've been up and running with me i5 3820tg.

    so far, it's ok.

i get 6.5 hrs battery life with the Intel gpu and power saving on with Wifi on. Not bad, but not 8hrs :)

One major issues has been that my i5 only came with 2gb of ram, and with win7 I think it really shows.

If i have lots of tabs open on chrome, dropbox, trillian, etc, I can get slowdowns.

The WORST is when I'm gaming - Team Fortress 2 renders and runs like a dream except that I get weird stuttery lag whenever things update - I'm guessing this is due to lack of RAM - thoughts?

Overall I'm really happy with the purchase, especially having bought it in HK dollars!

    cheers

Ultimately i must say that xp improved gaming on my notebook. Tested BFBC2 and those annoying lags and freezes were gone, everything feels much faster and smoother and more fluid. :D

On both coding numbers the series is off by one. It is likely that one card is a successor to the other but I can't be sure. Is AR5B95 the same card as AR5B97? They are technically different model numbers but probably only the next update in the same series. But, I don't know for sure.

Sorry mis information, they were samples, I mean AR5B97 and AR9287 must be same, of course AR5B97 is successor of AR5B95.
    AR9287=AR5B97
    AR9285=AR5B95

U said u have AR5B97, and I have given Wholesale Half Size Atheros Dual Band AR9287 AGN 300M Over AR9280 that link, I am asking that they must be same that one and yours.
If yes, I shall buy for a replacement of my broadcom.

does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the fan speed? My 3820 is almost quiet but when the fan is running at its low, it is running up and down in speed.

Is it possible to adjust it such that the fan will spin with the same speed and not turning up and down?

I think the G Skill memory is defective. Before using my GIS software today, I ran a full system certification and the ram failed certification. Wierd because when I certified just the Ram it passed. I ran memtest86 and got errors. That might be the reason for the problems with the OC. I have the RAM out and have my old memory back in. Everything is fine and the unit is OC'ing well again. But, I do miss the snappyness I was getting with 8GB ram. I'll see if New Egg will take this back (I threw the box out when the ram passed cert).

I think GSKILL has a lifetime warranty. They should be able to take it back no problem. If NewEgg won't budge go directly to the manufacturer

Running media player doesn't use allot of ressources. There is no video rendering; it's just pitching out on the screen what's stored in the file.

As for gaming, that's mostly all real time rendering. It's not comparable to video playback.

Again, Intel HD is not good for gaming. That is surely the weak point.

Does anybody else see somewhat of a resemblance to the Acer 3820/4820 in the ASUS U41JF? It kind of gives me the feel that maybe both Acer and ASUS are sourcing these ultraportables from the same ODM (Wistron I believe). The gunmetal gray palm rest, the design of the vents, the design of the lid, the glossy plastic surrounding the keyboard? But I could be totally off.

It looks like a good alternative to the Acer 4820TG instead with NVIDIA graphics, Optimus, and a higher capacity battery (83WHr).

Newegg gave me an RMA. The Ram is going back. My Slate is in Anchorage and should be in Newark by Tomorrow. That means I might have it by Friday. The first units are in users hands and the reviews are good. You can check them out on the Tablet Review site.

Have you tried doing a clean install? Or recovering a system image maybe? I too am using a momentus xt but on problems whatsoever, everything is fluid. What are your temps when gaming and idle?

What do 3820TG owners with the i3-370M think about it?

-Does it have heat problems? (due to its 90 max temp limit vs 105 of the i5's)

-Can you game without worries, or does gaming make it reach dangerous temps or even shutdown the computer?

    Thanks!

Im curious about this myself. I just did a bunch of searching which came up with plenty of talk about how the canadian models dont have it but no talk of what module people are putting in it. I guess most people dont use bluetooth?

Next time someone disassembles his notebook, could you please check how many pins the bluetooth input has on the motherboard?

I just checked the service manual and there isn't that much info regarding this.

    All I got is this:

Ok, there is more info but nothing really helpful.

Since it's a USB connector type, I guess it would be a 4-pin type?
    Anyone could confirm?

Try using this - WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD RE2-GP in combination with quietHDD.

I used the tool to set the idle3 timer to 300 seconds, but I still got the lag. Then I tried quietHDD and it went away. Since then, I've had quietHDD run on startup.

And of course, you might want to check your power settings for anything that might be causing the lag.

... is that a serious question? You saw what he quoted right?

I've been gaming on my 4820tg and it gets to around 90C on the gpu and maybe mid 80C's on the gpu and thats the highest in a pretty hot room.

The 3820tg is supposed to have better cooling

So its turns out my hard drive was defective. I cloned my momentus to the original drive and put that in and now its perfect. I did a hdtune test before I took it out and noticed it was giving a seek time of 19.5! Not good! Just wondering if I get a replacement drive what tests should I run to make sure its not defective again? Its weird how it suddenly started going funny buy anyway...

Ive been scrolling through the last pages and I saw that some users are using the Mobility 10.10e from Guru3d. Is this driver working nicely without any problems with shortkeys etc?

Also how do I install it? I need to set the bios in discrete and then install?

    Thanks

CPU average is 3.18%. Anti virus is off. Wifi is on but I have a Dlink DIR-855 so should support power savings. Thw windows energy report showed my usb ports aren't going into suspend mode...is that normal?
