I tried this with ATI Mobility 10.8 and 10.11. But both of them after installation don't install drivers for the Intel graphics card.

Boy... Mh HD 5650 is showing 450mhz core speed and i checked the ram bandwidth and it shows 667 MHz shouldnt it be 1066 mhz ? was i cheated ?

My friend's 3820tg has 550 mhz core speed and I have 450 mhz but in games it looks like there is not much fps difference however if my unit is faulty I want to change it... What is your opinion ?

Does anyone know if there's a way to make the computer not attempt to switch graphics when it's plugged in? It's turning out to be a hassle when for example I've been working for a long period of time plugged in, and then leave for another location where there are no available outlets. Then I have to close down Internet Explorer, which has a lot of stuff open by now, to avoid having to feed the Radeon-chip a lot unnecessary power. In other words, I'd like to be the one in charge of the switching, and not having the driver trying to do it for me all the time ;)

Another thing, is there a way to keep autosmart from setting the automatic harddrive spindown to two minutes?

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

I am about to purchase an Acer 3820TG in Hong Kong, which is a big upgrade from my Asus F8B1.

I am curious as this is my first Acer, what is the best way for a clean install of Windows 7? Or is it just faster to deleted all uneeded bloatware?

    Thanks!

Exact same story with me. I've done the same thing this September.. I've sent in mine to the service depot in Brno and they have sent it back without doing any work on it... At least, my display problem (see it in my sig) is only visible on AMD graphics, so I can use it on Intel when I'm on the go. Is your problem similar?

I've dumped the ACPI table but I have no idea how to find the fan controller bit in the AML code. If we could find out which bit sets the BIOS control, we can easily control the fans. I found out the bits controlling CPU fan, GPU fan and brightness, but they only work in a read only mode. We would need to find one more bit.

The first time I got the 3820TG, I spent a lot of time trying to uninstall the crapware. I couldn't get rid of it all. Then I gave up and formatted the drive and did a clean install. I suggest you do the same. Just remember to use the application to burn rescue disks and drivers disk before you zap the crapware infested default installation.

Afraid not. The switchable graphics aren't officially supported in this driver version, so we'll have to live without the brightness controls... It's only broken by hotkeys though, so you can turn the brightness up and down in mobility center by pressing the windows button + X

No. It's just Powerplay. It saves your power by underclocking your GPU. It will automatically increase to 550/800 again when you do some graphics work like playing games. Nothing wrong there. If you don't want your computer to save power then disable Powerplay in Catalyst Control Centre. Or make the AMD GPU clock tool startup on every boot and set it to 550/800 if that does not work.

Just reinstall Windows and reactivate it with the serial key on the bottom of your laptop.

It takes roughly about an hour to reinstall Windows and the drivers, and to update.

Clean install is discussed in this guide. http://forum.notebookreview.com/6465732-post1612.html If you use the HP key on the bottom of your notebook, you will have to use the phone activation. I prefer to simply back up the OEM key and certification and then reload it on the clean install.

    Bronsky

As far as the Catalyst drivers, 10.10e is a modified version of the desktop catalyst driver.

    I bought my 3820TG -7360 from memoryexpress
it is 699 now canadian dollars

i was planning to get the vertex 2 ssd
and the 240 gb was out of stock
so i got the 120gb one, but i found out i really need way more space then that not even 240gb will be enough
too many things i want to install

so i picked up a seagate 7200.1 XT
it is not bad even it no where near the SSD

i think if people want lighter weight,
    then 3820TG is the way

Lenovo y460 is pretty much the something. with 14.4 instead of 13.3
    but 4.9lb instead of 4lb

    that is a deal breaker..
    weight is important to me

That guide seems heavily over complicated.

How about just copy the image to a flash drive using the using the software microsoft provides, turn of the laptop with the usb drive plugged in, and follow instructions.

Should take about 20minutes using a flash drive. And make sure you have a Ethernet cable handy because your wireless wont work until you DL the drivers.

I made a thread here comparing the two( link). They both have there pros and cons. The acer is going to get you more battery life and be more portable at the same time. It weighs a pound less then the y460 and is .7 inches smaller length wise. The lenovo y460 has a better keyboard to type on though and has more features that come with it like bluetooth/i5 processor/optical drive/on off switches for wifi and discret graphics and a expresscard 34 slot.

The main pro with the acer is that it keeps more cool and has seperate fans for both cpu and gpu while the lenovo uses one fan with copper connecting them both to cool. Im getting the lenovo this morning so I can show you what ever you like.

I've also heard that the y460 runs hotter. The 3820 and 4820 should have better cooling systems.

    Hi Guys,

looking at the Service guide, how easy is it to add a 3G module to the 3820TG if it doesn't come with one?

Apologies if this has been discussed somewhere in the 800 pages ahead... >_< ...

Unfortunatelly if your 3820TG was sold without 3G modem. You don't have e-PCI slot.
When you open your laptop casing you will see under RAM slot free space in motherboard where should be e-PCI slot.

Can someone provide a link for an Intel Driver that will install? The one on Intels website brings up an error saying to download it from the computer manufacturer's website. Acer's driver gets an an unknown error.

The reason I want to update the intel driver is b/c it plays flash video distorted.

    Quick question concerning the HDMI.

I use the HDMI at home plugged into my LCD TV which uses the NTSC format as I'm in Canada. I'm going to Switzerland this week and their TV format is PAL.

Will this affect my playback on a TV? Can I simply plug into a PAL system TV and still be able to playback video? Any settings to be modified?

EDIT: Did more reading and found out that PAL/NTSC only applies to analog signals. HDMI beeing purely digital should have no problem at all.

I used to be a part of this thread since I owned 3820tg myself. But I had sold it and bought a larger Notebook...

I am very surprised to see and also very happy that in my new LG notebook the same keyboard of 3820tg is implemented.. I had really missed this keyboard because I loved it. Got used to it on the very first day. Great keyboard.

Some people dont like it but I am happy to be able to use this keyboard again, it is very confident.

(I also guess that the same battery is implemented, this surprised me also)

The best part of 3820tg was this thread :) Not many notebooks have so many special owners thread with dedicated people.

My vacuum cleaner stripped the wire that leads from the power adapter to the laptop, so I need a new power adapter. Anyone know where I can purchase one? I think I would prefer a slim one due to the amount of travel I do.

I won't do it myself as now I have the 3 year Platinum warranty, and I'm not going to tinker with the computer just to loose the warranty. I think I will wait till some other problem surfaces and then I will send it to warranty. I am really really curious what does it mean that they "care" more about Platinum customers.

Ah, the graininess is not even that bad, I am totally used to it now. It's the brightness shifting what is annoying, but as far as I use an external display it's not that bad.

mmmm... i'll have to open it and check... then again, even if the slot is there, the antenna for it should logically be absent...

    ------------------------------------

any particular reason the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software is called FixPack on the Acer website?

also, is the Fn key support only up to Catalyst 10.9?

    ...

BTW, what OS are you all running with your 3820? mine came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit... (a tad worried... my first time on 64bit... software compatability is so much simpler on 32bits.)

    Hi!
Fn+brightness is working for me with Catalyst 10.11(in discrete gpu mode) but the CCC isn't opening now. :S I reinstalled it and used driversweeper but still it's not opening. Did somebody have the same bug? CCC.exe is starting in the taskmanager but it's just not opening.

I'm having a look at it,
    There seems to be many revisions of the screen : B133XW03 (V0, V1, V2, V3, V4)

Are all the revisions compatible ?

    edit :

    AUO B133XW01 V2
    AUO B133XW03 V2
    SAMSUNG LTN133AT18-A01

    seems compatible...

Can anybody give me an advice for a good 256GB SSD for the Acer 3820TG?

    @zsero
The bit to switch the fan control to manual mode is not marked in the dsdt file. I think we have to test it or to take a look at the bios code.
