I am at work and the notebook is at home.

The PLL is under the heatsink/fan assemply over the GPU. Once you remove the GPU heatsink/fan assembly (which requires flipping over the motherboard) it is here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/6700413-post45.html

Up to now max. CPU we can upgrade was i7-640M which is 35watt 2cores-max. 1066mhz memory support as I know. Is it because of the lack of integrated intel graphic on Qcores or is there no support for four cores or 45watt heat dissepation issue? Today we have i7-2620M 35watt 2cores 1333mhz memory support and i7-2630QM 4cores 1333mhz support and better options with integrated graphics are i7-2720QM and best of all i7-2820QM they both support 1600mhz memory. i7-2820QM has 2 mb more cache instead of 6mb as on i7-2630QM and 100mhz faster clock speed. i7-2630QM has also 6mb cache but it lacks of 1600mhz memory support. Well do they fit? I say why not I previosuly installed T9500 on acer 5920g which has T75oo but as T7500 did not support 800mhz memory and T9500 supported 800mhz. But unfortunately acer 5920g had 67mhz limitation and my ocz 800mhz rams worked as 667mhz until I bougt Aspire6930g with T6600 and 4gb 667mhz ram than changed T9500 and 800mhz ocz's with them. So there may not be 1600mhz support but it should work 1333 mhz with any capable cpu on our 3820tg.

Wow thanks! I found lots of tutorials on how to switch back and forth with semi complicated switches and honestly, in Linux, all I want is for the ATI to be switched off. That did the trick nicely. Power consumption seems noticeable reduced.
I just made the change while sitting here at Village Inn, and I went from 15 minutes left with 21% battery to 50 minutes with 20% battery left. Looking at power draw etc I'm expecting 4.5 hours of real use in Ubuntu. -
thanks... impossible to know without disassembling, right??
anyone now how to solve the "missing cd/dvd driver" windows error message when try to reinstall a win7 home pro SO from a iso???
thanks!! -
Are you using a dvd or usb memory key? Should be really easy using this Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help

I am started to get disappointed with this notebook !
I've had it for so long, and i thought some whites spots on the display were dirt today.. but no
not dirt.
I am not even sure if they are dead pixels, i sat and rubbed them gently, but they seem like halos underneath the screen.
So annoying!
and for some reason they have been popping up all over the place, I have four of them now in different regions of the screen.Attached Files:

Hey guys,
I installed GTA 4 today and am having problems with it. It stutters every few seconds and is unplayable. I turned all the settings down low and it still happens. I thought it might be my hard drive but I can run Dirt2 and the latest NFS no problem. I had this issue before with San Andreas. Any ideas? -
No sanbdybridge CPU will work inside the 3820.
I mean a few persons are whispering about an 3830 with sandybridge CPU. -
Thanks for that tip, I had 9.0 something installed (yet of course when I asked device manger to update the driver, it said I was already up to date)

Anyone has the issue where windows live messenger persistently crashes when using the Intel switchable graphics on battery?
Seems to me that it crashes when the app requests to repaint the whole window (as opposed to repainting a control)
Actions causing crash:
- scrolling down too fast
- minimize/maximize
- receive message when minimized
Scrolling slowly, strangely, does not cause it to crash. Nor does receiving an IM with the window open.
I'm using this driver version: 8.741.1.6-101021a-107242C-Acer -
Both of my fans are hitting something inside the case now. I tried shaking the computer lightly to resolve the issue and then loosened the screws a bit underneath. No luck. Should I exchange it?
-
Clip capture off? Wieving distance under 30? Patch 1.0.4 or later?
Powerplay off - PCI E at 16x?
Mine plays GTAIV well, FPS may drop down during night action, but it's fine. -
Did you use my guide? http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-162.html#post6465732
I would seriously consider RMA'ing it.

call up Acer and ask for an RMA... if it is popping up more and more, it will hit RMA spec

What SSDs are you guys using?

I really don't like the ALPS touch pad that comes with the 3820tg compared to many other touch devices I've used. I've got the most recent ALPS drivers and tried searching for ways to make it better, but no really good ideas. Is there any way to use Synaptics drivers or software with an ALPS touch device? Alternatively, is there any 3rd party software specifically to allow greater tweaking or functionality (ie sensitivity tweak, gesture controls, etc) with touch pads?
And yes, I know I could use a mouse. -
Yep , I did that last night really that one white bought covers up like 5 pixels !!! and other stops the took it looks like a swirl .
I thought at first it was part of the windows 7 default wall paper those little spots but i guess not!
Though for some reason i thought shipping to acer was covered by them and they would send a box out but i guess not? -
Hi, I'm having the same issue with Windows Live Mail 2011. It crashes very often on-open just when the window is being build.
It only happens when using the discrete graphics. I have tried searcing for solutions, but haven't found one. Some people says, you could disabling hardware acceleration... -
If RMA'ing within 30days since original purchase date they pay for the shipping. You provide packaging in all cases.
-
of course, but the windows program don´t recognizes my ISO cause is a V-lited iso... so i can´t have a win 7 usb boot key... is there another program that let me boot win from usb???
-
There are a few manuals on the net. Do the steps on the command line.
Best regards -
Is there any reason not to go with the new 480m/6550 model over the older one with the 5650? Are temps higher or perhaps battery time worse?
Screen and touchpad seem to be a bit of a lottery. -
Yeah, the touchpad really sucks compared to most. Asus has superior multi-touch integration, acer's almost seems forced, there's such a delay before it actually starts scrolling compared to my ul80vt and my mom's 1000he netbook.
-
Take it. There is no known problem.

called and no idea, the seller dont have fisical shop only online
thanx and sorry my poor english -
3820T only has Intel HD
You need 3820TG for dedicated GPU, though it comes with some variant HD5470/HD5650/HD6370/HD6550 -
So how OC'able is the 6550M version?
-
^this ? (10char)

thanx for help and for save my money

any idea of this part number ?

Top SSD in 120-160GB range?
-
Vertex 2, as I've heard.
-
Is that good enough for SC2 on high/ultra? Cuz if YES, then I'll return my R3 when it comes.
-
Vertex 2 has a 25nm Flash Problem with the models. Have a look for an C300 Model.
-
corsair F series too??
-
Thanks! Good to know, completely missed that. Does it affect Agility 2 as well?
I've read that force series perform well, hope I didn't miss anything as I did with the Vertex 2 series. -
Do you guys think in June or July the price of SSD's will decrease? I'm not in a rush to buy it, but I want to buy one before come back to my country in August. For me, the current price is not reasonable and I'm waiting for something between 128 and 256GB for $100 bucks...
-
Only OCZ is using the 25nm flash at the moment. All the others seem to have enough 34nm flash.
At the moment only Vertex 2 devices known with 25nm flash. But have your eyes open.
I don't think so the spot prices of flash are going upwards and not down. -
ah... so, for a 120 giga ssd which is the favourite, corsair or OCZ, in your opinion???
-
I'v heard the "OCZSSD2-2VTX160G" has 34nm flash. Is this correct?
-
I agree the Crucial C300 is supposed to be very good and reasonably priced. Just be careful when looking at benchmarks though because it will be limited to 3gbs in the 3820 and will not reach the 6gbs speed it is capable of. It still holds its own though. A lot of them are available on ebay so you get a competitive price. I was thinking about the 256GB version myself. Vertex 2 is probably faster at 3gbs but I think the C300 is more reliable...
-
I had problems with my C300 and sent it back for the M225. Since then, there have been a couple of firmware updates and I would assume that they have fixed the problem. But if you have any data corruption issues, send it back right away.

How would you do that?
Strange, but for me it happens on integrated graphics.
Your bios is set to dedicated or switchable? -
Anyone know if the new 3820TG (i5-480M + 6550) can handle sc2 on high/ultra? How does the 6550m compare to the 5650m? Also, hows the overclockability on these new 3820TG's?
TYIA! -
At least playing on high sould be fine. My i5-450M + 5650 handles it well with an external screen (1680x1050) attached.
Usually my notebook screen is active as well... for IM / surfing. FPS go up if I disable it. -
Hi,
This Thread is HUGE!
im the proud owner of a 3820tg now (i5480m,6550m)
@dookie11: I dont know if it plays SC2 but i doubt that there is a noteworthy difference to the 5650m.
Thanks to Bronsky and u guys for the posts in this Thread, u gave me the infos i needed before buying.
I managed to use windowsXP(x86) on this thing, was a hell of trouble do get everything working (btw. i needed XP for Cubase SX3).
dont install the update with that ".net4 compatibility pack for XP", its an optional one but after install the wireless stuff takes 4minutes to be recognized after boot (doublechecked that this was the reason with acronis backups before installing any updates).
u have to use some lenovo hd5650m driver (because its XP), mod it, but it works -found that on some google-translated-chinese site.
Problem is that u cant have switchable graphics and that u have to use the DiscreteVGA because if u check switchable in bios, only the intel will work and the DiscreteVGA will heat up a little (standybypower i guess - the ~10W or so) and suck power leading to two hours of Batterytime. Disabling the hd in device manager doesnt help. With the Discrete setting in bios its 4.5 hour before lights go out (more than i get in win7 with DiscreteVGA only btw).
I miss the third point in Bios switchable-discrete-*integrated*
so im stuck with 3 Questions
-possible that acer will do a bios update that adds that option (i wont do biosmodding) OR
-is smth like an ACPI script possible to just disable the HD-Card in XP
-did someone of you already figured out a trustworthy display replacement that will give you BETTER contrast and/or matte screen?
contrast and vertical viewing angle of the screen on the i5480m/6550m are a bad joke. -
ah, interesting... so, if you are going to buy a 120 giga ssd today, which model is better???
-
It runs SC2 just fine on high. I'm using custom settings with shaders and lighting on high, memory-related things like texture on ultra, and cpu-side stuff like physics on medium (i have an i5-450). Framerate on 2v2 multiplayer is around 50-ish consistently. I play on native 1366x768 btw.
