    Hello there my fellow :)

I have also ordered my momentus XT. I'm going to get it either tomorrow, or on Friday, so I will be doing the install then

I plan to do something like this:

    * Remove harddrive from 3820tg and and plug into my desktop computer.
    * Make recovery disk(s) with Acer eRecovery (with the option in the bottom which will separate the drivers and applications).
*Connect the momentus XT to desktop computer and install a fresh copy of W7 enterprise (including the acer drivers).
*If the last step won't work (drivers), I will try putting them on USB and installing them from there. If this doesn't work I will just download the drivers from Acer's website.

It's possible to send private messages. Just enter the profile of the user you want to send it to, and click "Send a private message to ....." ;)

One question, are there any new drivers which will improve performance for the 3820tg? Maybe it's best to install all driver from Acer's website?

If any of you know of a good Acer parts store in your location, would you take a minute and see if they have a left speaker for the 3820TG. Insider says it's part no. 23.PTC01.001. It is the left speaker for my 3820TG. Acer USA does not have the part yet. Anybody help?

    I go no unread PM's :D

And btw, I bought a SweBurn.com::Accessories::USB::Sumvision E-Gem 2.5" SATA to USB Aluminum Enclosure Black/Grey for my current harddrive, so that I later can use it as an external harddrive. I'm kinda proud because it kinda matches the 3820tg's design

Edit: I got the PM :)

I'm having an issue with the sound. While increasing the volume from 0 to 1 and 2, I hear some noise, both from the notebook's speakers and while using headset. And while increasing the sound I hear some other kind of noise, sounds like the wind or something. This effect increases while increasing the volume.

Ironically I have not order my keyboard yet, so I would like to know where can I order the 3820T keyboard?

Also, I would like to know how long did it took for your(and whoever had theirs shipped to the US, around NY area) 3820TG to arrive, in terms of business and non business days? And, which postal carrier was used? The reason I'm asking this is mine is still on the way and my Father decided to move his office(where I'm shipping it to) earlier than planned. I'm currently scared sh!tless that it would arrive after they moved the office. Worst come to Worst, I guess I have to camp my Father's old office the whole day, lol.

15 days door to door. I'm only about 80 miles from NYC, near Philadelphia. It is delivered by US Post Office. You should get notice from DHL tracking that it is in their hands and ready for delivery. My post office is a small neighborhood one so I could stop by and pick mine up. You probably won't be doing that in new york.

KB Part number is KB.I140A.229. Insider says the best number to order parts is 866-658-2237.

The post office has a form you can fill out for change of addresses and mail forwarding.

You can even have the post office hold your mail for several weeks.

If u are going HK and not just transiting HK, u might wanna try the many computer shops/malls in Sham Shui Po MTR vicinity eg. Golden Computer Shopping Arcade (search in Google Maps for Sham Shui Po MTR, Hong Kong). I'll get it from HK rather than China, safer I guess (quality-wise).

I doubt the quality is any different. The products all come from the same factory, and even if you buy from HK, it's made in China. Oh, not to mention, HK IS part of China, legally anyway. Since 1997.

Anyway, it'd be a terribly expensive thing to come up with multiple production lines for the same notebook so you can cut corners on some of them but not others.

Prolly i should have been more explicit; i trust HK retailers more than China's, though technically they are the same country. Eg. U never know if your HDD inside is a 2nd-hand or 5th-hand one :)

Yes I had the same idea but Hong Kong acer website states that theres no 5650 available in the 3820tg product page. I couldnt find any resources on the internet for Hong Kong Computer shops to see if they have the i5 5650 model available. So I thought to buy in mainland china as to avoid being disappointed when arriving in Hong kong(not to mention price of accomadation is so High in HK it adds to the price ) I am very flexible though and can stay either a week in Beijing or Shanghai or HK depending where I can get the best 3820tg at the best price :).Could also order from comp universe in germany and send it to the uk but its cheaper here and the silver colour looks nice  .

They dun list it on their site cuz their site is the worst of them all, unlike Dell etc. Anyway I got mine from this shop. u might wanna call them:-

Wise Computer Tech. Co. Ltd 23323327
Shop 52, Golden Shopping Centre, 94 Yen Chow Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon

They are one of the licensed retailer listed in Acer's webby:-

That's what the "Void if broken" seals are for. If the box is sealed with the original factory tape I don't imagine the retailer would have the technology to make a new box with a new piece of tape on there.

Let me tell you something, if you have not been too China, you don't know what kind of freaky things China can do. People are better off buying from HK then China

lao3hero, you should've told us earlier that HK had the 3820TG. I could've got my aunt to get it for me and then ship it to me. :D

Hmm, and as someone that is CHINESE, I can with some certainty tell you that it's not nearly as bad as you think. Don't forget that media is always run by either state rule, like in China, or by "whatever-headline-gets-the-most-views-even-if-it-means-selling-your-soul", like in the West. A large percentage of notebooks are manufacturered entirely in China, this Acer being no exception.

As for being "shortchanged", unless he can't count fifty-nine 100 yuan bills, I'm not sure how they are going to "shortchange" him.

Short-changed doesn't mean literally giving him back less money in change. It could mean over-promised, under-delivered.

Anyway, I tire of this debate with you; this will be my last post on this issue :)

Thanks for the concern guys ! If your buying from the bigger shops and paying a little bit more(or know where to buy) Mainland china isnt a problem,Language barrier can be at times though. No problems buying most of the time but as others have mention you have to be careful. Last month in Chengdu in a smaller shop I nearly got sold a 3820t(with a 5470 which I understood) but after turning it on it had no 5470 and the hdd was odly 400gig which wasnt right as it should of been 320gig.

Small things like that in small shops you have to be careful of esp when im obviously a westerner with little/basic mandarin. But in bigger shops you shouldnt have a problem(most of the units people were trying to sell me with the box, the box was already unsealed.

I'm CHINESE too. Also been to most part of China, lived in HK and Guang Zhou several months a year. In China, I've seen old/used product sold as new with proper sealing. There's a lot of stuff I can list, but that's not on topic

@lao3hero Around how much does the 3820TG cost normally in HKD? Also, did you haggle? What is the price you payed?

Forgot to mention, another advantage of buying in HK is that it's usually cheaper.

How much duties/taxes did you have to pay when you got the laptop from computeruniverse? What did the total come out to be in the end?

Yeah, and I got to test the lappy b4 I took it home. I was allowed to check for dead/bright/stuck pixels & scratches/dents, and was also shown the specs in System Info in the control panel. Not sure if this practice is peculiar to this shop tho.

Funny thing was, I was at the shop for almost 1 hr, staring at the 3820TG and 4820TG side-by-side (luckily the sales assistant didn't laugh at me but I'm sure he sniggled deep down inside). Finally I got the 3820TG and only after buying it, I came to this thread and realised i made the right choice cuz everyone was dying for a 3820TG in other parts of the world :p

I think Bronsky got his through without any duty/taxes.

As for 3820TG vs 4820TG, mostly the 4820TG has some heat issues that the 3820TG doesn't have. Same internals, and almost same notebook dimensions, but the 4820TG gave up almost a third of the internal volume for an optical drive whereas the 3820TG used it to essentially double the cooling mechanism.

Maybe you can be the middle man for all those people who wants it. At least most don't have to deal with replacing the keyboard if they get it from Hk. :D

And don't worry about staying at a place for almost one hour. I did that before, but people were staring because I'm not your typical HK sized person. :D

So if I get order one from another german retailer ( chip.de), I would only have to pay what they're charging for the notebook + shipping fee?

Lol, then I'll have to charge a nominal fee :p

But then again, it may be already out of stock cuz it's almost a month ago that I got it and I haven't gone down to the shop again since.

To my knowledge, not every shop that sells the 3820TG in HK carries the 5650. Luckily the one I went did.

I think the general situation with the customs is like this. It depends on what the retailer declared as the item value, item type, etc, and not just that, but also which country, which border, and maybe even which person you're dealing with. Too many variables to say anything for certain. Chances are, though, you don't even need to pay as much as stated. In the EU all prices include salestax, which will be taken off the total if it's to be exported.

That is the way it worked with Computeruniverse (who no longer ship to the US). $850 for the 3820TG and $75 for DHL/Post shipping (15 days). My unit had a customs stamp when it arrived and there were no extra charges. I don't think the US has a tarrif on computers imported from the EU. I also remember that the store in Singapore I was dealing with said that there would be no import duties from Singapore either. I had spoken to another German place that said they would charge the Eu Vat tax and I could apply to get it back. I said no thank you.

I wish i could have waited for the 3820gt.

Got the envy 14 and the GPU is clocked at 450 stock.....where as in most laptops with the 5650 its stock clocks are 500-550. With OCing it i can only get to 500 :(

Although my i5 430m is permanently turbo boosted. I have some driver bug that makes it clock at 2.53 no matter what load or temp

Looks like the Envy 14 has a lot of issues.

Just finished taking it apart again to re-run the extra wires I left in there to configure a switch. They were interfering with the Keyboard laying flat. I'll do a write up as soon as I have a chance. BTW, the USB port from which I drew power works perfectly. I suspect I will wire one of those pressure switches on the left side near the vent.

So Bronsky you must not use your computer in sleep mode? or did you find a way to have it not powered with in sleep mode from the USB.

I just couldn't live with the backlit leds powered all night while in sleep mode. As I prefer to use sleep mode rather than shut down.
