    That actually increases wear.

More charge cycles = more wear.

    Just use it normally...

If you are going to keep the battery charged 100% for a prolonged period of time (ie. run off AC power), it's actually best to charge it to 40% then stick it in the fridge.

Mine is at 42% now so should i stop charging and plug it in after 10-20mins? I used it normally, but it was on 100 for a lot but i also used it a lot without a/c too.

Hardcor just discovered a new arrandale model on the distributer's website in Canada. It has the new I5-460M CPU. http://forum.notebookreview.com/6537946-post95.html Wonder what GPU it has? Nice to see refreshed models showing up on the Pan American region. Maybe there is hope for us yet.

Ok you are confusing the heck out of me...

Battery wear happens... sounds like you are using it normally.

If you see substantial wear after a few more months, i'd contact Acer. They should send you a replacement battery no problem.

Oh, thank you for the reply! I hope it won't get worse. If it'll be more, like 10-15% i'll contact Acer :) But I read that the first 2-3 charge should had been for 20 hours and i just used it normally since the first try. But 7% is normal, not? It's 92929mW from 99900mW.

Where did you read the 20 hour thing?

Nowadays Li-ion batteries don't need any special calibration. The only thing that's really recommended is if you are going to NOT use the battery for a prolonged period of time, charge it to 40%, then stick it in the fridge.

For everything else, use and charge as much as you need.

Intel's are not the fastest SSD.

However, when you combine their decent speeds w/ great efficiency and awesome reliability... Intel FTW...

so whats the best ssd in 400 usd in terms of size and speed?

is the difference between intel g2 and vertex2/agility2 and c300 noticeable in terms of boot ups applications loading multitasking win rar extracts and file copy and pastes ? if its 5 secs then its not worth going to ocz or crucial right?

also 2 factors upcoming sandy bridge will have sata 3 so i buy crucial sata 3 then its backward compatible but its the first primitive sata 3 ssd so it really doesnt get the advantages of sata 3 so is crucial worth the difference?

also in Q4 intel x-25m will change to 160gb/320gb/600gb who knows mayb the the new 400usd model will be 320gb or even 600gb???

    hey guys,

I just wondered: Should I remove the battery from my notebook, if I don't plan on using it for, let's say 2 to 3 weeks? If so, does that trick with the fridge actually work?

    thanks in advance,

All batteries tend to come with some sort of wear level indicated. It might be due to the electronic and the chemical contact being a bit less accurate, You might re-calibrate Your battery eventually - like every 25-35 charges - with a full charge followed by a full discharge (consider it a drain test so You can meassure Your battery's real life performance).

    Your're so correct!

Mine previous 9 cell unit came with 5% wear level, though my actual capacity was more.

This 6 cell I'm currently using came with an indicated 3% wear level, now it's between 4-5%, charged eventually, recalibrating it once in a week. When HWInfo indicates my wear level raised to 5%, I recalibrate it and it goes back to 4%.

Forget all constant full charge-full discharge (that's the way Nickel based batteries should be used), as Jay. stated, this would only lead more to cycles, the more actual wear and capacity reduce, less battery life.

I usually have my battery removed when I'm using the notebook at home/office.

Just have it removed at a 40% charge level, any not too warm or sunny storage place would do, actually the firdge is OK. I'm not allowed to put anything poisoning in the fridge. :p

    Hey guys,

I am in the process of making a clean install of Windows using Bronsky's guide, and I found a way to generate the backup-cert file with ABR Beta, hence eliminating the need for the telephone activation.

The problem is that activation_backup.exe looks for the file tokens.dat in the wrong folder. In order to make it happy, do the following:

    1) Create a new folder named SoftwareLicensing inside the existing folder C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

    2) Copy the tokens.dat file found in C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform into your newly created directory

    3) Run activation_backup.exe

This will generate the backup-cert.xrm-ms and backup-key.txt files, which can then be used later on to activate your new installation with activation_restore.exe.

    Hope this helps someone!

Nice, you did write the paths down. I did the same thing but didn't write the paths down and had already done a clean install when those paths where asked.

Only thing I did remember that the last directory was wrong.

Now bronsky or who was it can tell the tool maker to also look at that path. I just suggested of doing a recursive search one directory higher as I didn't remember the path :)

    @ Hendrickson

Hi, this is my first post here but I've read through the whole thread *puh*..
I'm thinking about getting this laptop as a replacer for my old G1S with 2.4 dual core, 8600m GT and 4gb ram. I'm really happy with getting something more "moveable" :p
Is there a big step in performance from my G1S to the 3820tg? (i5-450, hd5650)

However, can you tell me where you got your matte screen protector from?
Is it good? Are there any better options?
Is there something more I should buy?
    Thanks in advance

    Btw, great job you guys!

The i5 is a step up for sure and with some luck if you can overclock it to 3.2Ghz even more. I'm still waiting for my non glare screen protector. I got it from ebay. Will let everyone know what its like when i get it on my 3820TG

I7 620m QS CPU's for around 250 USD (if you make an offer) on ebay, including shipping...But can QS be trusted? My X9000 is a ES and runs just fine....

    Hi to all!!

I've bought a 3820TG here in Portugal, but here we only have a Core i3 350 version with Intel HD and ATI 5470 Graphic Card.

If someone change from a Core i5 to a Core i7 and wants to sell the Core i5, I'm able to buy, just to upgrade mine.

    Cheers from Oporto, Portugal

:S On the afternoon, the battery wear was 6,9% (went down from 7%) but now it's 7,6 :S It was on charge for some hours and after i was on battery(to 55%). ............ I don't want to watch this battery wear anymore xD

By the way, has someone noticed that sometimes, the notebook doesn't get back from sleep for the first try(but always for the second)? The screen don't came back but everything else do.

Interesting. Anyone who's upgraded/updated experience anything different? E14 users still reporting problems using Medium-settings or higher in bigger battles. Also, what's the max clock achieved in 3820TG's 5650 card? E14 users can't get to the 550. Some can't even get past 490.

I run 690 /1070 all the time without any lock ups 100% stable. I can run 740 / 1100 but in gaming it will cause a lock up after 30 minutes or so.

Its strange then that Envy 14 users can't get past 550? Why would that be, less voltage?

^ beat me to it :) [I think Hendrickson said he's running the 5650 @670MHz in games without any problem whatsoever. 650 MHz, however is considered a safe and stable OC, since it doesn't go past the HD5650's default clock rate range.]

Anyone know why Hardware Monitor and other temperature monitoring programs show completely different values in similar situations? I am currently using the "intelCoreseries sidebar gadget" for measurement, which shows temps of about 38°C in idle. whereas with CPUID it's at ~40°C.

BTW, with what DirectX settings do you guys play BFBC2? I'm asking this, because although I'm getting a stable framerate of about 30-50 fps at high settings with the 5650 at default clock, I am experiencing some kind of micro-lag. That is, sometimes it seems to me as though the game is in slow motion.
Anyone know what the hell this is and how I can solve it? And what temperatures do your CPUs reach when playing BC2?

    thanks,
    Marasam

PS: oh and even though I installed the latest Catalyst drivers, it still says I'm using the stock ones (8.713.3.3000). Do I have to switch to "dedicated" graphics mode in BIOS in order to be able to use the latest ATI driver?

Noticed You're a proud owner of a Notepal U2. Always wanted to have one, ordered it 2 months ago, we still seem to be facing supply issues so I use a Notepal X2 till I get mine.

So far it's making a 7-10C degree difference when doing intensive stuff...

It's quiet (almost too quiet), light, and very sturdy.

    I like it :).

    Thanks!

The X2 performs quite similar, I only use it when I'm messin' around with GTA IV, it decreases temps by 6-9 C depending on ambient temps.

BTW what are Your ambient temps?

Is the U2 as mobile as one would imagine- this could be a great and protective feature - , does the thin design of the TimelineX sit tight/fix in the U2, is it good orsafe to travel with?

Nice SSD+HDD setup You got there.

Ambient temps range from 23C to 27C.

The U2 is extremely mobile, but it's not that great when combined with the TimelineX. The laptop is too thin lol. Leaves lots of wiggle room.

Don't get me wrong, you can absolutely travel with both comfortably, but it isn't a perfect fit as one would like. The U2 can fit a laptop nearly 2" thick.

When set to discrete graphics in bios it's impossible to change screen brightness by Fn + left arrow/right arrow. On switchable it works just fine.

Also: Seagate Momentus XT HDD and intel 6200 wifi installed, fresh install of win7 done. Working great so far and a lot faster to boot/load apps.
