Does anyone know if using a 60w charger to charge the battery and still have the laptop on is ok?
I would never run it without the battery plugged in so i dont expect it to alone feed the laptop?
Ebay seller sent me a 60w version instead of the 90w. however it is smaller.

I have a small 60 watt from my 1410T that I use as a backup to charge my 3820TG when I'm not at the office or home. I have used the notebook plugged in to the 60 watt charger and never had a problem but if you try to game it might throttle becuase of the GPU demands.

BTW, the Sony Z has anounced its refresh with 580M and 640M CPUs. -
I want to buy this case but I got 9-cell battery do you think I can fit my laptop into this bag?
-
Thanks, I'll take a look at it. I have been reading a bit on memory dump errors on the OC'er's forum and the first thing they recommed is analyzing the error log to see if it is a problem with video driver remnants.
Looking at my work from yesterday, I am not really satisfied with my work on the switch. There is a slight bulge where I installed it. I think I made a couple of basic mistakes and I'll probably have to change it for another switch tonight or tomorrow. The good thing is that all of the wires are run and all I have to do is a small bit of fitting work on the new switch.
The main thing I did wrong is leave in the kensington lock plate (the part on the inside of the hole cutout) in-place. I should have used a dremmel to take that out and make more room. The other thing I did wrong was install the switch with the pins facing up and had to shim the switch underneath to make it fit in the kensington hole. I think it's too crowded in there with the Ethernet card and the switch fighting for room. If I take out the other piece of the lock, the switch will fit better. If I put the solder pins on the bottom, it will give the whole installation a lower profile. In hindsight, I should have left the switch for another secession. I was doing too many things at one time and may have rushed the switch job to see how the new CPU was working.
I'll write this up in more detail in the backlit KB thread when I'm done. BTW, did you run the power wire or the ground to the switch?

Yes you can. Look at my post earlier today: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-164.html#post6697722

It won't work with ATI gfx enabled.
A 60W charger comes with the 3820T -
Ran both ground and power to the switch. Its normal you have a bulge where the switch is if you didn't remove the locks metal bracket that was inside. See my photos in the backlit thread. Did you follow it? I removed the plate and upper plastic surround otherwise it just doesn't fit. No room. Not sure how you closed the top over the switch with it in!
Must have been a mission and could have also cut the wires with much pressure.
Also I fitted it with the switch pins down. I think that was best. When I filed the plastic underneath it was level with the lock gap. Glued and all good.
I'm 100% happy with my mod, fits perfectly and no bulge. I left it white as the paint started to come off it. So used so alcohol to clean it all up and revert it back to white. -
How did you take out the metal bracket? Did you drill out the pins?
I made the switch fit by bending the pins on top.
It was a bad idea in hindsight. How did you run power and ground?

Wow cool thank you! What do you think about it? is it comfortable to carry? is it quality made?
-
Hmm it was all in my post on the backlit thread. I guess you missed my post with this info: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...20tg-backlit-keyboard-mod-13.html#post6620058
They are just melted plastic over the top that look screws. Cut them with a knife.
The metal part we need to remove to fit a switch.
I removed the metal kensington lock bracket, there are two plastic tabs that hold it in place. With a knife cut these off and remove the metal bracket.
Remove the metal bracket
Now remove the plastic upper part on the top housing
Check the switch fits and is level. If not use a knife and cut some of the plastic to make it level. -
Since it's a sleeve and not a bag I don't actually carry it around. It doesn't have any handles. It serves for protection when I carry the laptop in an ordinary messenger bag. I really like this sleeve! The quality and the materials are great. I definitely recommend it. The interior padding feels like it could take a direct hit from a hand grenade.
-
Thanks for the photos. I haven't ticked the reply notification option, lol
So.. looks well protected to me. Truly, I've expected to have to use force to zip it and this was bothering me most. I think Zeroshock make good protection sleeves so once it's in there it's well protected
I guess I'll now just sit and wait for mine to come. -
hi is it possible to boot from a m2 memory card in a memory stick pro adaptor? I have a spare 4gb m2 card and it would be very handy to be able to boot from a memory card instead of a usb stick.

Hi Guys,
I just bought my TimelineX 3820TG last week and I discovered this problem.
When I leave the laptop on for long time the screen goes on black, when I come back and try to turn it on by touching the mouse pad, it does not operate. All the lights are on but the screen is black. So I have to shutt it down and operate again.
Any solution? -
Just tested with a SD-card, works.
-
You have to touch the mouse pad or the keyboard at the laptop, an external mouse or keyboard don't reactivated the display -
Thanks for the replying, I did that but it did not response. I'll try again and see if it does work.

Hi!
I was about to buy the Zero Shock 4, but I was worried about the 4,5 cm height that it is stated to have room for? I wanted it to feel tight around my laptop. I went for the Targus 13.3" case, not so nice with orange details, but it's quite slim. It fits rather nice, just a bit to deep (about 2 cm). -
Hi Tgoode!
I thought I read somewhere that you were about to order an pci-e connector and a pci-e ssd? Am I wrong or what happend with that? What were your plans?
@Any: Is it possible to add a thread note as a favourit? Sometimes one can find a note that might have useful information for the future, but I don't want to have 100 bookmarks for this page

hey guys.. i just got my i5 460...
i must say i love it! its absolutely beautiful.
i just wanted to ask though..
i also bought the yadi keyboard protector, so this question is for those of you who got it.
how come my cover doesn't fit properly on the keyboard? like there are parts that pop up.. when i start to type there are parts that come loose? am i supposed to be using the little white stripes of sticker for something? -
-
white stripes of sticker? = double sided tape u mean?
i am not using the "yadi" keyboard protector.
mine sits in properly without the need of any tapes -
no.. they're just like white stickers.. not double sided. like i don't get it? don't you just put the protector on? when i put on, there are "bumpy" bits, and once i start typing even more come up.
-
i put mine on. just like that.
doesn't reflect or not that i can see it - that there are any bumpy bits.
are you by any chance using those universal ones? -
and uh.. why does my usb power always keep cutting out. when i just finished my 2nd recovery disk my external dvd drive goes out..
-
wonder if this helps.
from the pic (wonder if you could tell) i have 2 kinds of keyboard protectors.
1. the 1 that fits in nicely on the keys - no "bumps"
2. the other is those universal 1s (that will have mini "bumps" if not applied carefully -
That's a new one for me. You can boot from an SD card? Time for a 32GB

do determine in Device Manager... if this is being enabled.
if it is, you might consider unchecking it
-
erm, my external microsoft mouse and keyboard is capable of waking my PC up from sleep.
-
also works with my 32GB SDHC card (used with my Panasonic TM700 camcorder).
-
wow what brand is that the first one and where did you got it?
-
eh... Singapore? Brand i have no idea.

It appears that the addition of a Mini PCI-E may work. I ripped my machine apart today, soldered on a slot scavenged from an older dead machine, popped my broadcom card in it and both the slot and the card were detected. I would still like to do some more conclusive testing before I say it is a 100% slam-dunk, but, first results are positive.
Pics to come later. -
That is really good news. I was wondering if it would work. There are so many things you can do with an extra min-pcie slot. Is it full length? Time for a trip to Electronics Land...
-
Just type your password normally and press enter, it should work then. Happens to me all the time.
If that doesn't work, press CTRL ALT DEL and the screen will snap into conciousness. hopefully. -
so I tried running memtest86+ but even after fiddling with my bios to change the start up order, it wouldn't boot to memtest. even with the USB version I would get a black screen until I removed the USB then it went straight to windows.
so I used the built in windows memory tool. 3 full runs (took 10 hours yikes) on extended tests and no errors were found.
if it is voltages how do I check for that?
thanks.
ps: restart itself again all by itself while I was running a combination of excel and graphpad. troublesome.
edit: pps: btw, McMazyad, I have encountered the same problem as you with some additional problems to that. my work around that was to not allow the computer to turn off the screen. not a permanent solution for sure but one I have used until I sort out all my other issues.

Hello from Bulgaria ! I bought the 3820TG with i5 430M ati 5650 and 9 cell battery. I made a clean install of WIndows 7 Home Premium 64bit, flashed the BIOS to 1.13, installed all drivers and everything was working perfectly until I tried to install the newest ati drivers..
I set the Video mode to Descrete. Installed the latest mobility drivers 10.8 and then swithed the video mode to switchable. I couldn't switch video cards so I uninstalled it then installed the Acer ati drivers and again I can't switch video cards, here is the error:
How can I fix this and properly install the newst drivers ? -
are you projecting it on a external monitor? battery ?
-
Restart and try switching on a clean desktop, without external displays. If not, uninstall all ATI and Intel GFX driver, do Safe Mode / DriverSweeper, install Acer official one, done.

Oh, I can't believe, I got a text and a mail that mine has been repaired and is waiting for UPS to deliver it on Friday at 1PM. It's Tuesday and the UPS tracking page still stays mine is at Vienna, and is scheduled for Wednesday. On the way out, DHL delivered the parcel in about 12 hours door to door. I have my plane on Thursday as I am starting my semester in Edinburgh in a few days, I am really worried now and I just hope I can get mine and that it's repaired well. Oh, why they just couldn't use DHL on the way back...

I think you can easily have your windows partition on any device, all you need is to have the 100 MB hidden partition on a bootable device (SATA drive) and then you can use EasyBCD to boot any additional device, or ISO files or external hard drives or anything.
-
That solved the problem thanks alot ! btw I haven't use external monitor.
And I have another question, I noticed I have DDR 3 1333mhz RAM but it is working in 1066mhz. How can I run it in 1333mhz ? -
Overclocking your CPU
Look for SetFSB in the thread, it's been very well documented.
-
Yes, a Linux boot works. You have to chosse the device in the boot menue. F12
-
Some awesome soldering skills there. The PCIe installation looks professional.

Our State Supreme Court just ruled that a lawyer sitting at counsel table can not be denied wireless or 3G access to the internet during jury selection to google prospective jurors or run instant background checks to aid them in selecting jurors. The laptop is finally comming of age in the Courtroom.
