Why does it have the old i5 logo on there? The new one has a straight line instead of a curve. And I hope it doesn't have nVidia, I need Linux on there!
EDIT: Digging the backlit keyboard! -
Maybe it is the TravelMate TimelineX?
Or it is just a China photoshop?
-
Ignore that picture. It's not legit at all.
-
Damn that looks nice.
-
Was it already confirmed fake in that thread or something?
-
the guy from RU forums add new screens look the same as the previous one

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
^^ Hot! Looking good.
-
The refresh of the Timelines looks great (except for the blue??). Is it me or does it look like the new 13" Sony SA.
The non-removable battery is a real negative but the 4182 3DM06 score of the Intel HD 3000 IGPU is incredible. The SB version of the 1830T should be great with HD 3000 graphics.

me dont like the blue color i don't think they going to limit it in this color
-
Just give it a good LCD panel! 900p and 500:1
-
It looks ugly, blue and grey doesn't match.
-
A USB 3.0 port. Nice addition.

So when would we actually expect go get anything? April?
-
I would think that, if they follow the same distribution schedule as last year, new models would be in the US by late May or June.

-
Odd that the first pic shows Nvidia and the new ones don't. Hopefully there will be some kind of AMD option for graphics.
-
Now the dilemma, should I hold out or just get the 3820TG... I can always order a 3830TG from taiwan when it's out rather than wait for US version..

3830 no longer has dual fan system? -
Yeah, I've actually seen that before. I'm puzzled by the nVidia too, and the little blue extension-like addition which holds the trackpad - weird. Keyboard looks perrty though.

links are broken

hmm let me update this for you

I really like the looks, but we all know which one is missing...
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Looks like the 3830TG is now a single heatsink/fan solution.
-
OMG, it is BLUE my favourite color!!!
And the hinge designs follows the current 4740G which I have and I can attest that this design is ultra solid.
And the Keyboard is awesome! Not that the keyboard now is bad.
It looks like a Blue Ethos very nice.
No Nvidia I hope, ATi works better with opensource considering the current state of Optimus. -
Wasn't the 3820T also a single heatsink/fan solution? AFAIK it was only the 3820T G that had the dual heatsink/fan solution. If you see closely, the right side has a plastic space with no connectors where they might add a fan/pipe.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
that is exactly where the HDD is.
this is going to be a single fan design, there is no space available that I can see.
the fan is massive though, its almost the same size as the 2.5 HDD -
Can someone who actually owns the 3820TG & T laptop dispute this?
Or they are too busy gaming?
-
I am wrong, the 3820T has both vents.

If the links don't work, I just used Acer Ru's images, you should be able to find them from their Picasa homepage. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I was referring to the 3830t that we saw... sorry for the misunderstanding
-
I like everything but the blue.
Here's to hoping there will be a more neutral color available. -
Come on IMO neutral color is BORING.
We already have tons of laptops with neutral colour.
Blue is interesting it always is.
And your avatar is blue... -
Huh?
You're right... -
I love that color ... my 1410T was that color blue.
Still not tempted to get rid of my 3820TG. I'll keep my dual fans and the island keyboard. I rarely push the GPU to its limits and I don't OC it very often. My CPU is more than enough for the tasks I perform. Nice to see how well the performance of this model is holding up.
I am also not a fan of the chicklet keyboards, like on the Sony. They are hard to type on at speed. I can really fly on the Acer KB.

I have my doubts about the keyboard too but then again Sony-style keyboards are widely praised- there's probably some getting-used-to involved but still...
-
To give the best sense of battery life, I copied these from that ??? ?? IT - ITC.UA Russian language (Ukrainian) review for the 4830T and an older review:
To summarize:
Battery Eater (load/max life)
4830T.: 2:07/9:32
3820TG: 1:28/6:07
1830T.: 2:13/5:17
1810T.: 4:10/9:44
-
So, if this is true (and it is hard to believe it is)...
Under low load the new 4820T gets battery life as good as the super slow 1st generation 1810T (CULV.) And 50% better battery life than the 3820TG.
Under load it is about as good as the 1830T (ULV i7.) Can't really compage under load to the 3820TG, since I don't think the 4830T included dedicated graphics.
Still amazing battery life- as good as some ULV predecessors but with a full voltage SandyBrdge I5.
To get a sense of how much more powerfull the CPU is, and yet gets comparable battery life:
PCMark05 CPU:
4830T.: 8263
3820TG: 6579
1830T.: 3163
1810T.: 2437 -
Thanks for info although it's Ukrainian review not a Russian one- it's not the same country you know...
-
Sorry, all I know is that Google has it translated from Russian.
My Great Grandparents were from Odessa, so I am aware of the difference
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
That is why I am done with ulv's.
-
So tempting....I bet the screens are still poop though.
-
Maybe because of the amount of success the 3820tg has seen, retailers will release its sandy bro earlier?
Agreed, once you get so many hours (8+) you're pretty much good to go...This thing should be more powerful than my Q6600 Desktop and still have 9+ hours battery life. I'm so looking forward to this. -
Isn't the rediculous 9.5 hour battery life partially due to the non-removable battery? For me it's a great addition as I never buy extra batteries. And here I was thinking that I had to compromise with battery life coming from my ul80vt
Edit: sorry about the double posts Mod, if I weren't on my cellphone posting I may have noticed it. -
I think the longer battery duration is due primarily to the SB's amazing draw. Lenovo us claiming 15 hours per charge.
With my 2 6 cells, I can keep my 3820TG running for 12 hours. 9 is a step down for those of us who use the acer as a mobile office. I won't be trading in my unit just yet.

I kinda figured that to be the main factor, but I'm sure that 6000 mAh battery adds a bit, eh?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can't just look at the mAh, you have to know the voltage as well.
The only figure you can directly compare are the Whrs.
Eg 10.8v 4400mah vs 14.8v 4800mah.
The 14.8v battery actually holds 50% more energy. -
Oh, thanks for imparting that knowledge to me. So "6000 mAh 11.1v 66 Wh" is a better statement to make when referring to the battery.
-
I keep (and use) my laptops for a long time. So if I can't replace the battery then I won't by the laptop.
My current laptops are 8 years (T40) and 10 years (Acer C100) old. I had a newer one but it died.
Part of the reason to get bleeding edge CPU/GPU is so that it can be usable a long time. Batteries die after 300 cycles... -
What sized laptop are you looking for this year? Lenovo and Sony hae some good new models out too which all seem just as if not more promising compared to the X830TG Acer lines.
-
I'm torn. I think I'll probably go for an X220 since SB graphics are probably all I need. But I'm tempted by the 14" crowd (4830TG, 460p, e420s.)
I'm bummed all of the SB's are 16X9. that is a huge adjustment coming from a 4X3. and I don't understand why anyone would want so little vertical real estate on a small screen.
But using the T40 with discrete graphics (3DMark=1200) has taught me that having better graphics can make for a much longer lasting laptop. Given how powerful even integrated graphics have become- expect all software and OS's in the coming years to really be graphically demanding. I worry that the HD3000 in 4 years won't cut it.
Of course I realize 95% of laptop users plan on much more regular upgrades...
