Have you used laptop cooler for the test? The idle temps is awesome.

Yea I always use the laptop cooler when testing or gaming. Without laptop cooler, max temp load before repaste is more or less 95C cpu and 85C gpu.

mine was at 4% out of the box too.

drain the battery down to hibernation level, and recharge it overnight.

tomorrow see if it goes up a bit, then proceed to use it for a few hrs a day on battery and see if it keeps increasing

It may be unimportant now, but if it rises to 20-30% in short time, then it's a problem

    Hello,

5830T owner here that is concerned about the battery wear levels too. Mine is at 1.4% after 3 cycles. ihaveabu, you do have wear, the new max capacity of the battery is 66,600 mWh.

Also a new 5830T owner. Could someone point me in the right direction on what types of bloatwear to uninstall and what to do as soon as i get this computer? I'm currently running down the battery and going to recharge it to fix the wear level on the battery. Netflix hd lags for me ;( What else is there that I can do to speed up my system? already installed battery bar, i have a sanyo battery. Thanks a bunch. And i'm really happy to have found this forum!

Welcome to the forum :D First, I uninstalled Acer games, McAfee anti virus, Acer video conference, and some other unimportant things that I cant remember right now.. Oh also make sure to get rid of the microsoft office 2010 TRIAL and install your own office softwares ;)

edit: you have the TG or the T version? with the GT 520M?

I'm seriously in love with my 3830TG :) it's very portable and I've been getting at least 7 hours of web browsing and youtube on battery. build quality could be a bit better, especially with the lid.

I've also found that with using ThrottleStop 3.0, I'm able to squeeze even more battery life out of it. Change the multiplier to 8x (with my i5-2410m, even browsing internet at 8x speed lets me watch youtube flawlessly)

Yea, like you said, intel has the updated driver for their HD graphics, also update the flash player while you're at it.

hahah ill get to test out the battery life during my work shift tomorrow :p too bad mines a 15 inch. 13 inch woulda been perfect. i got this for a really good price though. i really like the speakers on this. it is really different from my 3 year old dell that died. and the form factor is beautiful... hopefully i can make this portable enough to keep it :)

I have an Aspire One AO722 and while it's a good machine, the dual 1GHz cores and fairly low clocked GPU mean that it's not a great solution for HD video. It's fine with about half the 720p video I play, but can't keep up on the other half, and 1080p downscaled is right out. My 4820TG can play 720p and 1080p video on the Intel IGP just fine from Youtube. Don't know about Hulu or Netflix.

back to zero % after the recharge :) now the biggest problem lies in its size ~.~ ill continue trying it out for this next week since i have a 14 day return policy. no go for me if i cant get netflix to stream smoothly on this laptop. i'd just rather get the netbook for portability's sake, but we'll see what happens.

does anyone know what pressing the button that has the led light for battery does? ive hit it but it doesnt do anything xP

what is the max capacity of your battery that batterybar reports?

someone above said max cap should be 66,600 mwh. my current wear is 0.0% out of 65,491 mwh.

also anyone know how to update the intel onboard graphics driver? i'm guessing it's not through acer.

    i have 275.50 from laptopdrivers2go

Anyway while you guys are worrying about random %-ages of battery wear, I figured out that you can OC the 540GT with nvidia system tools to 765/965 easy with *zero* increase in CPU temperature, which gets you back a nice chunk of your performance back from running at x17 multiplier :)

Opening up the 3830TG doesn't void the warranty because when I opened mine up to repaste the cpu and gpu, I didn't see any warranty sticker or anything on the way.

I'll call them monday, and if they can fix it fast I'll send it in. If not, I'll just wait and send it in once it reaches 70-80% which it probably will in short time, if it continues like this

    Mine's 66600mWh (0,3% wear)
You can try downloading the 4755G model, which has the same Intel Graphics, but later model, therefore it has the later version of the drivers.
for nVIDIA graphics, laptopvideo2go is the best source :)

just do a full charge-discharge then the battery will back to normal. I've experienced that 66800, with 0% wear, but after doing a full charge-discharge, the battery back to 66000

The main difference is that Sanyo batteries work normally, where as most of the Pananosic batteries (some of the work) are crap.

So when you buy a new timeline it's hit or miss. "life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get"

2 times I've gotten the Panasonic. No luck for me I guess :)

My wear level starts out at 4% then I used it down to 70% recharged back up to full and I see it drops to 1.3% wear and it stays there since. The wear level is probably caused by the heat because I always have my laptop on a laptop cooler so it stays quite cool and my wear level doesn't increase daily like some of us do.

well apparently it is possible to call up acer and have them just send you a battery. i am more than proficient with a screwdriver.

if it ever comes to it when my wear is getting silly, i'll have them send me a battery.

the 1000 mwh that i seem to be missing out on really isn't that big of a difference in battery life.

try and drain it all the way to down to hibernation lvls (5%). no need go any lower as that can sometimes damage batteries.

recharge from 5% and see how things go.

it worked great for me. started at 4%. drained, then it went up to 5%, then dropped over the course of a week down to 0.0%.

and i don't use a cooler. my cpu temps max at around 90-95C, and my gpu temps max around 85-88C.

i play at least a few hours of sc2 a day so there's plenty of heat cooking my battery

If you use ThrottleStop to monitor your CPU temperature, you can also use it to disable Turbo Boost if you find your CPU is running too hot and throttling while gaming. ThrottleStop is a multi-purpose tool that gives you a lot of control over the 3830TG. It's not a bad laptop for the price once you take control of the inadequate CPU cooling problem that Acer shipped this unit with.

i use CoreTemp for my CPU and throttlestop for my gpu.

I think the T would have less of a problem with heat since there's no dedicated GPU

also on amazon the price just went up to $899. It's still not a bad deal. but not as amazing as $550 + tax (after you sell the xbox)

Hi, all the happy x830TG owners! I need you to prove the following:

Hypothesis: CPU throttling (Multiplier falls from 23-27-29 to 12) begins only when nVidia GPU temp. rises 75C, and is independent of CPU temp. Consequently, throttling with "Integrated graphics" set in BIOS starts (if does) very late, about 98-99C, and with "Switchable" - it can hit at any CPU temperature.

    Check Methods:
    1. Warm up the CPU (also possible to load integrated GPU for faster result - LinX, AIDA64, FurMark, OCCT GPU, etc) with nVidia off ("Integrated" in BIOS)
    2. With "Switchable" on, warm up CPU first, then GPU, & inside out.

so im looking to buy a timeline on monday. I really wanted a 3820 but finding them with the 6550 is almost impossible now. The only way I will settle for the 3830 is if there will be a fix for this throttle problem in the future.

Is it bad bios programming thats making the computer throttle under high temps or is it bad cooling that is making the laptop actually reach dangerous temps?

if its the bios will there be a fix besides throttle stop to allow this computers full potential?

Cooling is inadequate so don't hold your breath waiting for a bios fix. If Acer let the CPU run at full speed, it could overheat and shutdown when gaming and that would end up being a bigger problem.

Trust me on this, you'll get a lot further being polite to the CSR. They didn't design the laptop, or the battery, and they aren't responsible for Acer selling you a battery that at the very least has a hard time tracking it's actual wear levels. But they do have the power to send you a new battery. If you are a jerk to them, you might not get that new battery so easily. If you're nice, you probably will. Your choice.

Just add it, and set the value to 4 (Decimal), but I think you won't need that key since it doesn't affect anything to ur notebook.

I'm using the Dolby that already comes up with the laptop since day one. There are some minor cracking sounds but it still acceptable.

Yes! And it rocks! Still 0,3% wear until now!

Sorry I may verify later, but I just wanted to tell that's what I've observed too.
Sounds like engineers were worried how much heat nVidia can deliver per fps :)

Some of you had problem with BT atheros module and mouse lags ? My logitek m555b does lag frequently, when the touchpad won't, so I'm about to switch to intel wifi+BT
