I think it is less power draw overall because the northbridge is put into the chip now.

That's why sandy bridge gets better battery life.

If my reading of the old thread is correct though, when you OC the CPU in the 3820TG, the gaming performance actually goes down? Is that correct?

If that's the case, unless you're doing something really CPU intensive, it makes more sense to simply OC the GPU for more gaiins.. in gaming anyways.

I thought the 3830TG is already release in Korea and some other countries, I'm surprised there's no review yet.

It's funny, I don't use my Acer for gaming but I use my GPU quite a bit. The framerate drop seen in 3D games when OC'ing the CPU does not translate when the GPU is utliized in my company's videoediting software. For business use, the CPU OC is still a win, even when using the GPU.

It is almost April and there is nothing on Acer's website. I am doubting an April release in the US.

I would like to get an eee pad transformer too.

Guess I'll be waiting for the 5830TG since the price match for a 5820TG was not approved. Hopefully NVIDIA improves Optimus with 500 series although I still prefer Radeons for laptops.

'cause I waited those same two months last year as Acer distributed its 3820TGs to Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Taiwan and finally Canada. The 3820TG was never sold in the US. Neither was its predecessor, the 3810TG. Even the 4820TG, which was sold in the US did not showup on retailers sites until June.

    Past is prologue.

I'm curious what the 8420TG sells for there... In other words, have they increased the price of the newer model?

Ugh. I don't think I can hold out until then. I may just grab the 4820TG. I don't have any real need for it, but I will waste quite a lot of time if I have to keep refreshing this thread constantly until June :)

So it looks like pricing will be widely varied across the board.

    $825 in Malaysia
    $1250 in Norway

My guess would remain ~$1000 for North America.

You probably won't have to wait "that" much if You've acess to the Asaian/EU market.

The 3820/4820/5820 series were known to come 2010 March, became available 2010 April-May.

Haven't seen something this nice for long time. Id take this over a 2000 dollar SA any day(the SA/SB while nice and one of my favorites has small exhaust for heat that is covered by the LCD hinge and states in the user manual that you cant keep the lcd screen out all the way for extended periods of time because it blocks the heat from escaping) or the Lenovo e420s. Its a beautiful laptop that is perfect in every way. I love the battery that is built in, the new keyboard and the design is amazing!

Few questions, is there going to be a 3830t and tg model? what will the differences be? What kinda of North American availability are we looking at? What price, what are benchie's difference from a ati 5650 and the nVidia GT540M percentage wise? I have read on notebookcheck but does anyone have any hard numbers. Can they fit a geforce 550 in there, that would be great.

A new shop in germany listed the 3830 TG. You can buy the laptop for 819€ at Alternate but the release date is still unkown.
I also find the 4830 tg for 799€.

Adjusted for Germany's 17% VAT, that is $955.53 in USD. That's close to what I paid for my first 3820TG which was imported from Computeruniverse in Germany. I would guess we'll see the 4830TG here in the US for ~ $850 USD in its basic form. Maybe $900.

Nice to see that Acer will be releasing an I7-2620M in the EU. A bit pricey. When I see all this new hardware coming out, I am really happy that I have both a noteook and tablet that I am quite happy with. Otherwise, I would be on the edge of my seat waiting for Acer to take its sweet old time getting these units to market.

Acer's consumer business in China is down a bit, so they might be attempting a broader distribution of their notebooks this time. It would be nice to see a 3830TG for sale in the US.

Are you sure it's SSD? I know it's only 120GB so it looks like SSD, but there's no formation on the HDD :)

If it really is SSD, then yes it's less pricey ;)

It looks like the 3830TG version of the Il Diavolo that was the I7/intel SSD version of the 4820TG. Even if the 3830TG comes to the states, I don't think we'll see that model here. I guess I'll have to live with my custom made Lil' Diavolo. :D

Hmm, that must be running hot with the 35W GT540M on the same heatsink/fan. It looks like the panel is of same mediocre quality as the 3820 when he is folding it @2.45 into the clip. :(

I think the polish review said something about it getting hot under full load. Interesting that the sandy bridge laptops get so hot (Macbook pro 2011 etc.). I thought 45nm -> 32mm would mean less heat because of lower power consumption....

The cooling solution looks very well designed and I'm sure it will suit it. As long as that fan is pushing out enough hot air, the vent on the side is big enough just like a gaming laptops suppose to be. Honestly the cooling solution doesn't get much better then this on a 13.3 inch laptop.

I do realize the 3820 had two fans, but for this type of laptops its not necessary. Most likely watching the temps more close will be fine and taking extra percausions that you didnt have to do with the last model like keeping the room air cooled all time below normal temps and keeping a fan blowing on it when your going to be doing intensive stuff for hours on end.

I may disagree with that. As I wrote some pages ago. the dual fan solution was the outstanding feature of the 3820TG (wouldn't have bought it without it or the 14"/15" versions)

And fact is, "real" gaming books do have two fans!

The TimelineX isn't exactly gaming hardware but a hell of a lot power to put into such a tiny little thing.

Especially in a small chasis, better active cooling is obligate, to keep not only temperature, but RPM and in consequence: fan noise down.

These are important things for me, and if you follow noelia's hint, even though the bigger MacBook Pros have two fans and in addition a metal body which (sadly) works as a passive cooler they overheat, throttle et cetera. Good Thing about it: it makes ironing your pants needless. :D

Another example: Alienware M11x: though using ULV CPUs and a weaker GPU the single fan makes the little bugger roar like a big one...

I don't say the 3830(T)G will burn down, but it won't stay as cool 'n quiet as its predecessor

all they had to do was keep the same chassis 3820tg and just add a sandy bridge processor and keep with the 6550 or 6730m that would of been the perfect notebook.

well I don't know if you got a newer generation 14 inch and under model with only one fan and dedicated GPU but I do, its in my signature. Its as quite as if there was no fans. I literally couldn't believe how quite it actually was when I first started it. You cant tell the difference if you shut your eyes and are a few feet away, even with in arms length if the laptop is on or not without looking.

Also laptops are cooled way better then a lot of the older models. I had an alienware, one of the first gaming laptops to ever release to the public the are51m 776 or pretty much same thing as the 5500. These laptops had upgradeable graphics in them but the heat was massive. You could literally burn your self by touching the bottoms of them while under heavy load. Your heat comment is being exaggerated. You have to use some common sence when using any electrical equipment. People just don't care enough to worry about how to keep there stuff cool cause they will either just sell it or wont have to worry cause they got enough dough any way that they can just buy something new. Honestly, the design to me looks much better in this laptop then the wirey dangly 3820tg. I have read the manual of the 3820tg with all those pictures of the inside. I like it to, but this is newer and like I said looks better designed.

Here( link) is my older alienware I was talking about. Will this even be available in US? I just wish they could have put in a NVIDIA® GT 550M 1GB like the lenovo y470 has.
