Unfortunately I did not check the temps. I only powered it on and checked the bios, then disassembled to pop in my SSD. I did not intend to repaste, but the sink was easily removable, and I had some MX4 at hand so said why not...

Not relevant, but I have to say again: the build quality of my 472G is awful. In fact, when it is on flat surface, it waggles. Only 3 of the little rubber foot-pads contact the table the same time. I did not notice it because most of the time I'm using it on a cooling pad wich has also rubber stuff where the pads sit. The case-joints are also horrible, anywhere between 0-1mm. The touchpad is kind of rotated (Same looking touchpad in the Asus x450 was also rotated, but slightly more) The right side USB ports were so tight that when first connecting a device, I had to apply so much pressure that I tought it will tear the connector off the PCB. I will make some pictures as soon as I can use a decent camera.

For anyone that has the V3-572G:

Can you take a picture of the blank in the optical drive? Does it have a separate metal bracket and bezel with an eject button? Or is it just a blank with a plastic hole in the back?

Also would be helpful if you could install this software: EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager and check the model number for the LCD screen. Thanks!

What's that cable above the hard drive? Is it safe to temporarily remove that cable to replace the HDD with an SSD?

Looks like it simply provides the singals/power to the daugtherboard with the USB and headphone/mic? connections on the side. Those are called ZIF (zero-insertion force) connectors. You can disconnect the cable by flipping the latch upwards delicately, ideally with a plastic pry tool almost as long as the latch to avoid damage to the latch. Some older-style connectors actually latch by pushing/pulling the plastic on the side, but I don't think that's the case here.

The ZIF latches are very delicate and can break easily. In addition, they are only designed to latch together up to maybe a dozen or 2 dozen times... just something to keep in mind :)

Hi, I just picked one of these up (V3-572G-54S6). I'd like to do as others have and install an SSD as the main hard drive, and move the 1TB HDD to the optical bay. I'd rather not open it more than once, so I had a couple questions.

Can I install basically any 2.5" SATA SSD? There is no mSATA bay on this thing, right? Any thickness restrictions?

Can anyone provide the link to the optical bay HDD adapter? Does it require a cable? or direct connect?

To move the contents of the HDD to the SSD, any suggestions? I heard there is a restore partition, so it would be nice to get everything moved over to the SSD.

    Thank you

Hi, I've got one these acer V3-572g. I've installed an ssd with Windows 8.1 Pro and my question is: Has anyone of you been able of run a Synaptics or Elantech driver properly on this laptop???

Seems impossible to me to install any touchpad driver. I've tried the ones from Acer, older versions for other laptops and OS... And nothing works. This is really anoying, windows uses a generic driver so we are missing all the 3 and 4 finger gestures and settings for a nicer use of the touchpad.

    Any solutions? Thanks!

    V3-472G user here.
This is quite a big issue for me too. At first, I used W7HP, and had all the goodies from some 3rd party (Samsung) laptops Elantech driver. Then after I've upgraded W8.1P, the lack of 3 finger tap, and swipe was horrible, and I downgraded to W7P back again after 1 day just because of this. The interesting thing is, i could not get any elantech driver to work any more under W7P.I"ve tried several drivers, and none of them recognized the touchpad, the exact same hasn't that worked on the previous W7HP install. Too bad, 8.1's generic 2 finger tap and scroll was also missing now, so I moved back to 8.1 anyway.

Acer has to roll out a proper Elan driver, I think the issue is because this is an I2C device

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to remove back at all to access the HD and memory?
Appears to require only removing the front. Thanks

    You MUST either:

    A) Re-install the OS
    B) Clone over from your HDD.

You cannot just copy and paste the data over, it won't work.

I replace my Harddrive with an SSD on this laptop but now my keyboard doesn't work.

When I opened up the laptop the keyboard ribbon disconnected without me touching the clips so it seems like it was loose in the first place. I've tried to put the ribbon back in and clip it on but keyboard still doesn't work. Everything else works except the keyboard.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

The clip for the keyboard has a retainer of sorts - it's on a hinge and you have to flip it to open and flip back when you close it. In the latter case it pushed down on the ribbon.

    Looks like this.
    Is that what you did?

This is what it looks like. There is tiny clips on each side but no big clip like in yours. I thought I had got it connected but a couple keys still don't work.

It's hard to tell since the photo seems to be from the back of the connector and it's not entirely into focus but it seems ti be missing the retainer completely. The other connector visible on the photo clearly had one (lower right corner of the photo).

Can you get a into-focus photo confirm?

Hi, l'm looking to buy a refurbished V3-572G-543s, it doesn't have a DVD-Rom like some other 572 models, just a plastic cover.
Is it possible however to use a caddy to add an extra hard drive ? A connector for the caddy will be present? That will really affect my purchase decision. Urgent expert opinion will be extremely appreciated :)
