Many resellers never listed the 750M GT. I assumed it was integrated graphics actually, but some other resellers such as Newegg.ca did indeed list the GPU.
Can anyone confirm batery life on this thing? Acer's site used to list 6 hr AFAIK, the current Datasheet (specs) subpage now says EIGHT. If it indeed gets 8 hours (especially with a dGPU) that's pretty impressive...
-
I also was wondering this same thing so when I ordered through memorydepot.ca and contacted the sales rep who confirmed that it was the same one as on the acer.ca website and that it did indeed have the GPU. As someone earlier mentioned the V7s with PG in their model number have GPUs.
I think that many of the re-sellers just copy parts of the description but not everything as there is no mention of any graphics (Intel or nVidia). -
Can you tell how well it is perform in gaming? Like how many fps you can gain and all that stuff
-
1 .Right click on left corner of desktop
2. Select 'Run'
3. Type in regedit.exe to start Registry Editor
4. Expand/Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\Zone Config\TouchPadPS2\
Within that branch there is:
-"Right Edge Pull"
-"Right Edge Pull Extended Zone"
-"Left Edge Pull"
-"Top Edge Pull"
For each edge gesture you want to disable, change its corresponding "ActionType" key value from 2 to 0.
5. Restart the system...and no more edge gestures. I disabled all of them. I mean that's what the touchscreen is for, right? No clue why synaptics doesn't include these setting options in its control panel applet. -
The USA 15.6" model only weighs 0.4lbs more than he 14".... Perfect for doing real work.
But has the 720m not 750m
Based on benchmarks this is crazy. The HasWell 4600 gpu integrated benches -/+ 5%.
Why would they increase heat and not add performance? -
I would say, do not get this laptop if you demand over 6 hours of battery life. From what I can see, it can get about 6, with a dim screen, and just using the web, no videos, or audio. You can be comfortable getting 4 - 5 hours of normal use with this laptop. That is great compared to my last laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15R, which got 2 - 3 hours of normal use. I used to be concerned about battery life, but I have realized that I am rarely away from a power outlet for more than three hours.
-
I found that the Microsoft store can install the SSD for me (I'm not tech savy at all...) so I might just buy this one. It seems to be the best 14" option out there (please feel free to disagree). Is this the right SSD to buy? --> Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 512 SATA_6_0_gb Solid State Drive MZ-7PD512BW: Computers & Accessories
Are there other things to buy for the upgrade? (I need to bring them the parts...)
Microsoft store people said that they can do the upgrade if the bottom of the computer is screwed in (otherwise, they won't touch it due to warranty issues). Could someone confirm that's the case with this laptop? -
bottom of the laptop is indeed screwed in.
for those wondering about battery life, you can usually get 4-6 hours doing casual stuff (video, surfing, netflix, etc), with the higher end coming with lowered brightness. tops you could probably squeeze out 7 if you were only typing a novel or something at low brightness. nothing great but its not some made up number... 6 hours is definitely possible, whereas some manufacturers like HP will say 6 hours with their bigger notebooks and you'll be lucky to hit 3. -
I would recommend not getting a 2.5" SSD. The laptop holds 2 hard drives. 1 2.5" and 1 msata. you should replace the msata with a new ssd so that you can keep the 1tb 2.5" hard drive. here is one of the fastest msata ssds on the market. 480GB write 425MB/s read 540MB/s Mushkin MKNSSDAT480GB Atlas Series mSATA SATA III 480GB Internal SSD | eBay. There is nothing else you can upgrade in this laptop unless 1.5TB of storage and 12GB of ram is not enough(which is ridiculous for an ultrabook) Yes. you can change the hard drive with just a single screwdriver.

Thank you so much. it worked wonderfully. Do you know if there is a way to disable inverse scrolling through this registry? I see registries for scrolling but I don't know what they mean or how to correctly change them.
While I'm at it: do you know how to enable 3 finger swipe up and down gesture? (used to be able to swipe down with 3 finger to show desktop aka a hotkey for win+D)
I dont know what else registry changes are capable of but i want a way to keep Fn lock on... but i also dont because it messes with the tthat are shared with the numpad. Any thoughts.
thank you so much for putting up with my limited software knowledge! -
The inverse scrolling option is in the synaptics control panel applet, but is greyed out and unselectable, right? Honestly I ended checking on, applying, and then checking back off (and vice versa) a variety of options + clicking 'reset to default' on a variety of the touchpad setting pages...and at some point that part of the applet magically became selectable. Trying checking on zoomperfect, applying, and then checking it off once more.
I haven't tried it myself, but I suspect many of these options *may* be available in the latest synaptics drivers available at Drivers | Synaptics . The version listed there is v16.3.15.1 , while the acer supplied drivers are 16.3.12.34 .
There was also the SynGestures program at http://syngestures.klickin-webdesign.de/ , but the site appears to be down. -
Has anyone dealt with Acer's warranty service or their extended warranty plans? Thinking of picking this up but may go with SquareTrade if I can find one of their 30% off coupons.

Hey I'm considering this laptop for university in the fall, and I have to order a laptop within the next week or so. Would you recommend this laptop? I'm in Canada so I'd be getting the 482 pg 6662 model with the i5 instead of the i7, but I don't plan to game much on it, the most attractive feature of it to me is the 1080p IPS display. My only concern is that I need the battery life to last at least 5 hours, and some people have said that the keyboard is too shallow, which is very important to me as I would be typing a lot of notes. My other option at the moment is the acer m5 ultrabook, as it has deeper keys but lacks the 1080p touchscreen and graphics. Which would you suggest I pick?
-
I received the Canadian Acer v7 482PG-6662 today. It does indeed had a NVidia GT 750m and is almost identical to the US model. One note is that the keyboard is in the Canadian setup so a few of the buttons are slightly different.
As you can see the left shift has been split and the enter button and "\" are in different locations. Also French words are on many of the keys. I think that the significantly lower price makes these small inconveniences worth it in the end. -
It's not a very different keyboard setup. If it was German - it could be annoying but this one is pretty similar and it will not take more than a few days to get used to it.
Definitely worth it. -
Where exactly did you get it at a "significantly lower price"?
-
The 1080p IPS display WITH touch is pretty hard to find and is the most important thing I'm looking for. If anyone has seen some examples around for cheaper I would definitely like to hear about it but I can't say that I've any others with those features for any cheaper than this.
Edit - I've only heard rave reviews of the screen on the V7 so I'm leaning more towards that than the m5. Just depends on what you're willing to pay for the nicer screen. -
I am not sure if I'm allowed to post links so delete them if needed.
A few sites sell the v7 482PG 6662 but most only ship to canada. NCIX.com and NCIX.ca both ship to the US. The laptop is slightly more expensive on the US site but the shipping is probably cheaper. I purchased mine from memorydepot.com ( NX.MB5AA.003 14 LED Notebook - Intel Core i5 Acer) and althought that image is not the v7 the one I recieved was the v7. I contacted them about a price match and they replied extremely quickly to that request as well as any subsequent emails. With shipping I recieved it for <900USD in about 1 week.
Personally having 12GB RAM instead of 8 and having and extra 500GB HD are not at all important. I was a bit worried about the i5 4200U vs i7 4500U but it seems to be running fine and I figured for $400 less it is was worth the risk. -
Links are fine as long as it's not spam. Feel free to post whatever you feel like as long as it's within forum rules.
-
Do you find that the keys on the Canadian model are shallow like those on on the US model that some users have described?
-
A friend bought the US version and as far as I can tell there are no physical differences other than the keyboard layout and markings. While the keys are shallow I find them easy to type on and don't consider it a nuisance. The key placement takes a bit to get used to but after a few hours its almost natural.
-
I'm pretty (pleasantly) surprised by that. Any chance you could run some quick numbers on how gaming performs on this? I'd like to pick up a laptop over the weekend and I'm considering the US and CA versions of this, and a built out Sony Vaio 15E with the 740m and 3rd gen i7 U. -
I wasn't sure what to benchmark with so I used minecraft on full settings and had an average FPS of 59. Red faction runs about 23FPS on full settings 1080p and about 35-40 in 768p.
-
Thanks for your help, man. Are you noticing any problems with heat? Also, one request if you have time: Would it be possible to download the Total War: Shogun 2 demo from steam and see how that plays? It would be great to know if it could handle the TW games smoothly, even on low settings.
-
Total War ran on Very High about 25FPS with it dropping lower in battle. On medium the framerate was about 30.
-
There's a BIOS update [v2.13] dated 07/19/201 that is available on acer.com http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...=ASPIRE V7-482PG&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 .
There's zero release notes on what it fixes or adds. Nevertheless, I went went ahead and installed it. I don't notice any difference, but it was a painless process and didn't hurt anything. -
Thanks, returned my chronos 7 samsung and about to pull the trigger on the lower spec V7. Which is a better store to purchase from, memorydepot.com or NCIX? -
When I ordered mine NCIX.com did not have the model in stock and althought the laptop was cheaper from NCIX.ca, the shipping was quite expensive. memorydepot had great customer service and is a better option the NCIX.ca but I have not looked at NCIX.com. I think that the laptop is slightly more expensive from NCIX but the shipping may be cheaper and perhaps faster since it is based in the US.
-
Is the Canadian model made of aluminum or plastic?
-
It's the same as the US. The top and middle are aluminium while the bottom is a plastic.
-
So the only differences between the Canadian and US version are the:
Keyboard, processor, HDD, and RAM right? Anything else?
Is the screen, graphics, and build material exactly the same?
If so I might get the Canadian version to save money. Does it still have the same room to install an SSD? Is the i5-4200U significantly worse than the i7 on the US version? Is it still suitable for HD watching and gaming?
Also, for the Canadian version, it says standard memory 8GB and max 12GB. So that just means there's another slot to put in more RAM manually? Wouldn't that mean max could be 16GB since I am assuming it will ship with one stick of 8GB?
Anyone who owns the V7 already, does brightness need to be on full for it to be viewed well and usable or is it a very strong screen where brightness can be on 50% all the time and it's fine?
Lastly, would the CA version possibly have better battery life at all for any reason than the US version?
If anyone knows answers to these questions please let me know. I am heavily leaning towards buying this V7 (US or CA) because the Lenovo U430 is taking too long to release. -
The CA and US version are identical, if you exclude the keyboard,
4GB of Ram are soldered on the motherboard. There is 1 slot, it may be used with 4GB or 8GB stick for the 8GB and 12GB versions on the market. -
Awesome. That's the most intense game I would be throwing at it, so the rest should be fine. Thanks again. -
So I've been running Deus Ex on high settings (8x AA) and have had no issues or slowdowns (well, 10%ish slowdowns once or twice crawling around shiny vents but that was about it). Runs very smoothly. When in wide open spaces or intense environments the fans pick up like crazy, but the game plays very well. The area that gets hot is right above the keyboard... luckily you never touch that. Keys get warm, but not unbearable.
-
That sounds really solid. Are you using a cooling pad at all to deal with the heat?
Also, I'm looking at the SSDs on NCIX. Do I need to key on anything beyond just it being mSATA and the GBs? Like are their brands that you should stick with, or any different connection options or physical sizes to worry about? -
Thanks, gonna order off either website today or tomorrow.
-
@tchen610:
Did you have to pay customs fees when receiving the laptop? I heard sometimes UPS delivers you a charge 2 weeks after receiving the package.
Also, is the screen MATTE or GLOSSY? -
Screen is glossy but bright enough that reflections, even outside, aren't really an issue. I did not have to pay shipping fees. The company moved my product from one of their warehouses to another. The package was then picked up by Globex courrier in Montreal and was at my house within 48 hours. I don't know if other sites will be different though.

Hey Guys,
Very informative thread you guys have here
I just wanted to know if this is a great computer for a college student for the Fall. How is the Gaming performance (Skyrim, Battlefield 3, GTA IV etc). How is it as a daily computer (mobility wise). An estimate or batter life with average (Email, Music, Web browsing).
P.S can anyone take a picture of the Batter charger
Please and thank You -
no cooling pad. but the intake vents are on the bottom so you need to play on a level surface. so for people like me that occasionally like to throw the laptop on the bed or the lap for comfortable gaming, that's not an option (though it's fine for less demanding stuff like video, internet, etc.)
as far as the msata ssd goes, i just bought the 256 crucial m4 off amazon prime... had decent reviews and was affordable (not to mention it was delivered within a few hours). -
This thread is really helpful -- thank you all!
How is the fan noise? I'll be using my laptop extensively in classrooms and libraries, so I need it to be pretty quiet. -
Non issue unless you are playing games (pretty loud, and in intense gaming very loud) or watching hd video (somewhat loud). Otherwise it's audible but barely so... nothing you could hear 5 feet away or that would be distracting. I plan on bringing this to classes, libraries, and meetings.
-
I really want to buy this model for my wife (like the 1080p IPS, and the keyboard appears to be good), but the GPU is overkill for her. Is there a model without one? I'd take the reduction in weight, cost, and fan sound if possible.
Thanks! -
^Yeah that's what I'd like too, I don't play any games and would rather get more battery life.
If there were such a model (maybe not yet released) it would be V7-482P-xxxx (the G means it has a dedicated GPU)
There is one sold in foreign markets but it doesn't have the 1080p screen. -
The laptop uses nVidia's Optimus technology so you have the option of disabling the GPU completely. That would yield the same battery as the same laptop without the grapics chip but weigt and cost are still factors. That said, if you don't need the graphics, other laptops like the VAIO Pro or macbook air might be better since they have significantly more battery. I think the main draw to this laptop is the fact that it has good graphics in an ultrabook form factor.
-
The Vaio Pro was my main choice for a while, but the bouncy keyboard, and lack of PGUP/DOWN/END/HOME as dedicated keys on the side has turned me away. She is a writer, so the keyboard comes first.
-
Oh that's good to know, in case I do wanna try a game or a more demanding imaging software, etc.
I'm pretty set on the Canuckistani model (-6662) but does anyone know how the Acer Warranty works if we're "bootlegging" the CA model into the US? AFAIK NCIX should *NOT* be selling the -6662 across the border at all, according to Acer's own store page on the -6662. -
Is the i5-4200U a good processor or does the USA i7 blow it out of the water?
Is battery life probably 4 hours on both the CA and US versions if watching HD movies?
Anyone who owns the machine, does the brightness need to be 100% all the time to use it well or can it be easily used on say 75% brightness to save battery? -
May jump ship to the S7-392 at the sale price at Microsoft.com ( Acer Aspire S7-392-9460 Touchscreen Ultrabook (Intel Core i7) - Microsoft Store)
Just dont know if the extra weight/lower battery life are worth the graphics card since I really dont game... -
I also found a VERY detailed Youtube review, but it is in Hungarian I believe PH!TV -- Acer Aspire V7, friss és ropogós - YouTube
Anybody able to translate by any chance haha
