Do you have any info on the specs/review? I just learned about the existance of the V7-581p (15'' version). But it seems to have a 3rd gen i7? Can't find the haswell version.

Here you have the datasheet of the v7-582PG (haswell version), in french tough. I never seen a review of this specific model with fhd screen and gt750m.

FYI, if you uninstall the Synaptics driver that came with the PC and install the generic one from the Synaptics website, it reenables some of the trackpad options that are annoyingly grayed out by Acer (so for instance you can disable reverse two-finger scrolling which is such a pain in the ). I haven't had any problems with it yet.

    Thanks for the dimensions peterparka.

Anybody with the Canadian version care to comment on the keyboard? I think that's the one I'd like to go with but not sure how hard it is to get used to.

The keyboard is not a problem. The only problemis iI sometimes hit the "/" the button instead of the enter button. I have pretty much adjusted to the differences in the keyboard and don't think that it is a large enough issue to deter you from purchasing this model.

Does anyone know if changing the mSATA will void the warranty?
I'm very tempted but a bit nervous in case anything goes wrong and i cant just stick the old one in and send it off for repair.
    cheers

Pulled the trigger on this. Really dont get why acer isnt advertising this more. On papers its everything i wanted and more. Got it for $888.22 on ncix US website with the pricematch option. Only thing that has me iffy is the build quality. I defiantly know ima get what i paid for but i atleast would like for it to be sturdy and not cheap feeling. How are the hinges for the screen? Any small input would be great!

Build Quality is great. It is the same as the $1300 version and feels very "premium". The majority of the surfaces are aluminum and the hinges are tight and hold the screen in place. When using the touchscreen it only flexes about 1 cm if you press near the top of the screen but the hinges do not move and it reverts to be position it was in as soon as you release pressure.

Really glad to hear that. really looking forward to get my hands on it. i got it with the i5 4200u i dont think that will be much of a problem as i will be using it mostly for some sql, programming, note taking, websurfing and emails. but i always like to have that extra power under the hood should i need it. I will be doing most of my gaming on my ps4 once november rolls around.

There is no aluminium in this laptop. it is 100% plastic and rubber. That being said, it is the nicest plastic laptop I've used. solid build quality. outer lid scratches pretty easily (because it is plastic). The lid is very very sturdy. no wobble. I promise this laptop is plastic. think of it like Samsung galaxy phones. it pretends to be metal.

Unrelated: I really dont understand why batterylife is so bad or why the New S7 gets an awesome big battery and this laptop doesnt. wouldnt acer think this laptop would face the same fate as the first s7 of having bad battery life. which it does.
I dont understand this haswell crap. My old 14" ultrabook has better battery life on ivybridge and has basically the same size battery. I mainly disable the graphics card so there is no reason a 14 haswell ultrabook should be worse than an ivybridge ultrabook. ok fine the screen is bright and 1080p but come on!!! i wanna see some battery improvements. maybe the motherboard sucks and drains battery.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday (Canadian version, 750GT, i5-4200, stupid bilingual keyboard). Haven't done much software-wise other than install a clean version of windows, so I'll comment a bit on the physical aspects.

Like others have said, the body is all plastic but feels very solid. The screen itself is great; bright, minimal screen bleed. I'm coming from 1366x768 on a 15.6'', so the difference is night and day. Reading web pages is difficult, so I might even have to decrease the resolution.. Screen hinges are smooth to open but very stiff, so there is minimal movement during touchscreen use. Keyboard travel is slightly less than normal, there is a solid stop at the end, but is not difficult to type on (at least for me). The pre-installed touchpad drivers are absolute crap, twitchy, reverse scrolling, etc. Once I installed official synaptics drivers, it worked perfectly. Only issue is that the 'right click' region on the trackpad is small. Pressing the bottom-right corner is considered a left click, but a spot slightly to the left of that is a right click. Speakers are very loud (2 watt x 4), quality is good as far as notebooks go. I haven't had a chance to test battery life yet. Can't comment on SSD cache performance, haven't reinstalled the appropriate drivers yet.

A lot of people are saying this laptop is all plastic. But mine definitely has an aluminum piece. The cover over the keyboard and around the trackpad is metal. It has a metal feel, and gets very cold. If it is not metal it is something very strange.

Maybe it depends on the model? Maybe the i7 are brushed aluminum and i5's are plastic? Those who have it care to give ur opinion as to what material it is?

sorry guys. its not metal. its just a really dense plastic. very good quality. they tricked you. but that's a good thing. i have the i7 V7-482pg. plastic keeps the weight down.

Any other folks willing to weigh in on this model versus the HP envy touchsmart 14t-k000? I'm on the fence, I appericate how much nicer the acer display is, but I'm comming from a 3 year old dell 14" with a medicore 1440x900 display. If I never see the acer v7 display in person I won't know what I'm missing and not end up regreting having a lesser display.

The AnandTech review almost got me to pull the trigger on the acer V7, but after reading this thread the three points I'm concerned about are:
    1) touchpad, sounds like drivers can help but haven't read anything good aobut it yet. Seems like acer figured this out for the new S7, aggravated they didn't replicate it here.
    2) build quaility, I'd like another 3 years out of my new laptop if possible. Plastic weighs less, but my current plastic machine has cracks in it from me picking it up while open next to the touchpad.
    3) power button and port layout. Ports on the back seem crappy, also sounds like I can disable the power button but this is still a strike against the v7 in my book.

It seems like the envy 14t-k and the acer v7-482PG balance one another out with advantages and disadvantages. The pros for the envy address my concerns about the V7:
1)from what ive read and seen in the envy 15 and 17 models, has a good touchpad
2)presumably has more durable construction (aluminum everywhere except the bottom), although the bouncy keyboard on the new envy 15 is a bit of a concern
    3)better port and button layout

The biggest down side of the envy 14t-k seems to be the 1600x900 display, which is crummy objectively and outright bad in comparison to the v7 IPS panel.

Otherwise most everything else seems to be a push: I don't plan on gaming so 750 in the v7 versus the 740 in the envy 14 isn't a decision point for me; I think I could swap out the 24 GB of msata ram in the envy for an ssd as folks have done here with the v7; I don't need more than 12GB of ram, so theres no advatange to the envy14 there. The envy carries an ultrabook label (i think), but it has a smaller batter than the v7 so I'm not sure which if either has the advantage and Ill probably have to decide before I can wait to see heads up testing between the two. Price seems similar if I can/am willing to get the candaian version.

Toughts from any one out there? I'd love a great screen, but it seems like it I'd be trading that for a much better touchpad, better durability and reasonable ports and power button placement. I really need to decide soon, but current laptop is on its last leg, and keeps throttling to 25% cpu for no apparent reason.

Historically, HP doesn't really have a good track record for their durability on their consumer laptops. Their heat dissipation is also pretty lacking. From everything I've seen with their most recent line of laptops, Acer is trying to take big steps away from their "king of low-cost, low-quality" title that they've gained in the past.

I was actually able to take a look at a version of the Acer V7 at a nearby Fry's, and while the screen was 1366x768, the rest of the notebook should be the same. With that said, I thought the quality was excellent. A step down from a Macbook Pro, but not by too much.

On top of that, I've seen a review (Anandtech I think) that showed that the V7 can push out around 7 hours of battery life with normal usage. That's pretty decent for a notebook with those internals.

What are your qualifications? If you're not going to be gaming, I would suggest considering laptops without a dedicated GPU. Examples would be the Sony Vaio Pro 13, Acer S7-392, Asus UX31LA (not available yet). All have great specs, internals, build quality, and battery life, and they're much lighter than the V7 too.

    Thanks for the feedback crazylilazn.

My basic ranked preferences where: haswell, ultrabook or ultrabook like, very good trackpad (that isn't the macbook air), 14" form factor (and accompanying keyboard) and a minimum of 1600 x 900 resolution.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the S7-392 awhile ago, as my laptop has been in bad shape since mid-june. The thing that has kept me from doing it was that it doesn't have the top row of function keys which i use pretty consistently for work. I've had some sony failures that have turned me off their laptops, granted those were a while ago, and the early reviews suggested touchpad is just so-so. I need a new machine soon so I'm not sure if I can wait for a new zenbook (and from what i've read their trackpads have had some serious issues as well).

I've also been mulling the samsung ativ 9 plus, but my perference all along was for a 14" machine and the V7 is much closer to what I was hoping for. Lighter than 4.5 pounds would be nice, but for me personally the price premium isn't worth it, I could have a V7 with a 128GB msata SSD and a 500 GB second drive with more connectivity/less need for dongles for less money. Plus the discrete graphics is always a plus. I’m not planning on gaming given I don’t have the spare time to get sucked in, but it is always nice to have the option if the bug strikes me.

There are finally some 14" haswell machines coming out. I know acer can make high quality machines, as evidenced by the S7. If the V7 build quality is high, and numerous sources suggest that it is, and it seeming more and more like the V7 is what I should get (assuming the trackpad is manageable with new drivers). The one other thing that gives me pause is the lenovo T440s, but it sounds like it could be another month or two before those are shipping and I simply can't wait that long.

Hey guys, does this laptop has a backlit keyboard?
How many mSATA and HDD can this laptop fit?
    Is it full aluminium?
Where can I get one in the UK?
Will it void the warranty if I upgrade the HDD or maybe change it to SSD?
Also what's with the USA and Canada version? Aren't they the same?
Can someone test FIFA 13 in it? Can it run high or ultra at 1080p? I'm not a hardcore gamer, but it's nice to game once in awhile.

I have the M5 (last year model)

It is not full Aluminiun, Is plastic but i has aluminiun on the top of the screen and the keyboad, to be honest it looks a feel really nice, is not the comon low budget plastic.

msata i think the maximun is 500 Gb, (but i think panasonic is bringing some 1gb units)
    I dont know about UK
It will not void the warranty,
They have different memory (canada have less memory 8Gb vs 12Gb), different CPU (canda i5 vs US i7, but i dont think you would ever see the difference).
You would be able to play fifa 13 at 1080p, i do that know and mine is an older model,

Guys received my Acer v7 482 Canadian version. WOW. The screen is worlds better then the hp envy 14 2013 model I have. just a initial look. the trackpad is a little rough but im not comapling I can get used to it. It a personal preference id say. Laptop feels very nice sturdy. id say its aluminum. Snappy and fast. only thing I need is if anybody can kick me in the right direction to install a clean version of windows. Does the acer recovery have its own methods or do I have to go in a reinstall it my self? first time dealing with a ssd cache so im a little afraid of messing something up.

I was thinking to get an Msata ssd, and keep the 1tb drive for videos, pictures, music etc... But know I do not know, I am thinking of getting a Samsung 840 Pro regular ssd. And eventually getting an Msata ssd also, to have more space. I would get 256GB Samsung now, and whatever size was cheap enough later.

Anyway, does anyone know if this laptop uses a 9mm, or 7mm hdd?

Never mind, I found it. An impressive HDD, 7mm, it is a WD Blue which are low power, and last a long time. It is Sata III, and has 16MB Cache, pretty much one of the best HDD you can get. Makes me feel like it is a shame to change it. It also has built in movement detection, and stops the HDD when movement is detected, and has a new design, where the arm does not even touch the platter, again to make it last longer.

    Newegg.com - WD Blue WD10SPCX 1TB 5400 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive

Still debating what to do. It turns on very fast, and I have not noticed any issues, except maybe when trying to load Sims 3, but I am wondering is it worth trading out the HDD and getting an SSD to make Sims 3 load faster?
And if I do trade, should I go Msata, or SSD.

Liking the SSD route because I can just clone the HDD and swap in the SSD. If I go Msata, I have to reinstall everything.

Did anyone install W8.1 on the V7 and know how to retrieve the original W8 product code? Can't seem to find it and need it to install the leaked 8.1 rtm..

Can someone comment on how well the CPU handles more CPU oriented games such as more strategy, MMO and RPG type games, such as specifically Civ 5 (specifically turn times)?

Trying to decide between the Acer Aspire V7-482PG-6662 and the Lenovo Ideapad Y410p. The showdown is mostly between the display versus the better CPU. To a lesser extent the GPU memory difference, storage setup, wifi quality, thermal, and build quality differences.

I play Civ5. I have not played much on this laptop yet. But I started a new normal size map when I first got this laptop. It was very quick, I was playing at 1080, because I could not figure out how to get it to scale full screen at 166x900. The settings were all high except some things like water and shadows set to meduim. Played perfetc, no issues. At least twice as fast between turns compared to my 2012 Dell Inspiron 15R.

I actually went through a complete MISSION by trying to install a clean version of windows 8 not 8.1 but my understanding is that the version of windows these new laptops it is tied to the bios so there is no actaully "code" you can pull and use to install windows 8.1 or another windows.

That is what it looks like, better call Acer and have them take your laptop back and send you a new one.
