Take note, the model numbers change when you choose different colors. It seems that Amazon, Buy, and PC superstore all use the same model number for the blue one.

Anyone also considering the ASUS 1000H which dropped price to $449, is a little bigger but has bluetooth and the battery doesnt stick out.
-
Is there anyway to find either the Asus 1000H or the 6 cell Acer Aspire in a store? I kinda don't want to order it online but rather in person at a store..
-
Bit bigger, but bigger screen 10". less HD space but it is okay with me
has bluetooth, and traditional touch pad. and easy ram upgradability.. -
EEE 1000h for $449. Wow that is a great deal. Pondering what to do. Isn't it great how the different netbooks company's are competing for more business.
-
I just ordered the Asus EEE 1000h from Amazon and canceled my order for the Aspire at Buy.com.
The bluetooth option and plus being able to add ram easily was the deciding factor. -
here is a cool link for the new ASUS eee owners
-
sorry - didnt mean to hijack this thread with the asus
on the downside it is only in black - and be careful not to order the 1000hd because i think that has the celeron - correct me if im wrong -
don't worry there will be plenty of ASPIRE ONE questions to come.... i just look forward to actual tech questions... it gets kind of boring reading about everyone who has a ONE on backorder....
-
I want to get a ONE in a brick and motar store but with the 6 cell battery and not the 3 cell.. I really need the extra battery life!
-
-
Yea... but all of those that are taking pre-orders are online sites. I want to know when they will reach stores...
-
Yup..........I couldn't wait so I paid a bit more and ordered the Asus Eee pc1000H (160 gig version) from excaliberpc.com.
I guess I better wander over to the Asus threads.....
Happy hunting everyone! -
I ran out of my patience too..
i ordered EEE 1000H for $400 shipped (after live cash back $400.17 for exact) from Zipzoomfly.com
sorry for thread jacking.. -
.
I concur that the ASUS is functionally better but the Acer is much nicer looking and more portable. -
-
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10009273&prodlist=celebros
If that is true it is 45% more to be exact. If they're using old specs than I dont know. Either way, based on looks, and weight the ACER wins hands down. As I said the 1000H is functionally better in most other areas. But actually seeing both of them next to each other (the demos had no batteries in them at J&R), it is causing me to hesitate buying the 1000H. -
I have the 6 cell, 3cell aspire ones, and 1000H and can tell you that clearly the 6cell aspire one is close in weight to the 1000H than 1lb. I don't have a scale that measures that accurately but even Acer lists the 6cell as being 2.78lb.
Also of note is that the 6 cell on the Aspire sticks out the back, it may seem a bit unbalanced for some depending on how you hold/place the netbook. The 1000H doesn't have as big a problem as the battery is flush and doesn't jut out the back. Both of them do allow the netbooks to sit a bit raised which is better for airflow.
Looks are subjective, I won't say you're wrong or right. -
-
By the way, your original thread was totally thread bashing and has no plaace here....
Its ok to mention the 1000H here but to be like ha ha I got one for $400 shipped - who cares - in a month we can probably get the 160gb version for $300 shipped. -
A couple of questions, please:
Is the wireless-n on the Asus 1000H the 3-antenna variety (or is that true of all wireless-n; I'm looking at this antenna mod thread, http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1443)?
How should I expect the speed of an Atom 1.6Ghz netbook with 2GB of RAM to compare to the speed of my old eMachines laptop with a 2.8Ghz Celeron and 756Mb of RAM?
Thanks!
William -
it depends on what you do. It''s not meant to replace desktop pc's in terms of power (unless you're counting in year 2000 when the Pentium III was intel's desktop offering). People need to stop thinking these "netbooks" are meant to replace full fledged laptop/desktops. They are good for what they do but they are not speed demons.
That said, i do run Photoshop CS3 on my acer but i limit what I do on it as it is definitely worlds slower than my 5570 Aspire with T7400. -
-
I was just wondering how it will compare to the 'slow' system that I have now (my eMachines m2105); I did the PassMark Performance Test 6.1 and got a (Complete, all tests performed) score of 195.2.
So that is the comparison that I'm now keen on knowing.
I still have some thoughts of the XPS1330, for good speed under 4 pounds (more with the power brick), but more than likely will opt for a netbook just for the weight and lower breakage-concern factor, as I will be toting it everywhere.
Thx!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I got a 231.4 testing on my AAO with 1.5GB ram and a seagate 320GB 5400.5. Note that I could not complete some tests due to lack of hardware (optical drive) and did not have the 3D component tested (I don't game so I don't have the latest DX installed)
-
That's encouraging, thanks!
I'm leaning toward the 1000H just for the extra .5GB of RAM. -
I just ordered black onyx aspire one A150-1049.

lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
Hi...
Quick question...
Suppose I get the Xp version...how do I load up Office 2007 (and some other often used softwares) ? Since it does not have a CD drive, I am assuming I have to buy an external drive and connect through the USB right?
Thanks -
Yes, unless you have a machine you can copy 2007 onto a USB key and install from there.
or share an optical drive over the network. -

Is there any word on the 6 cell version hitting the UK? The white 120GB, 1GB RAM, 3 cell abttery version going for £230 on play.com is really tempting me but the limited battery life is stopping me from pulling the trigger. I know I can always upgrade after market though at more than £60 that's currently a pricey option. My current line of thought is pick up the 3 cell version now then upgrade to a cheap 6 cell battery once 3rd parties start churning them out for cheap, which given the One's popularity seems a certainty to happen at some point.
Still if a 6 cell option is expected to hit in the next few months for £250ish then I'd probably pounce on that. I've ruled out the EEE 901 due to it only have 4GB of speedy storage which makes it impractical as an XP machine. 9 inch is my limit size wise as well, as I feel these mini notebooks start to lose some of their appeal once you start getting any bigger. -
The -1813 seems to be the 120GB XP version in Blue, if you can believe the pictures on websites, but J&R lists -1570 as 120GB in Blue. Here are the J&R listings: (but none in stock)

-
hi guys, i dont really know much about the aspire one, but my dad bought one back home and it came with linux, is it possible to install XP?

I wanted to have a DVD drive to go with my -1447, which is scheduled to come at the end of the month, so I spent yesterday doing research on the various DVD drives available. I had to decide whether I wanted a burner, or just a drive, and how big I was willing to go. Since I would be travelling it, size was a major issue, so I went for one of the slim ones. I also eliminated any one that required external AC power. I wanted it to power directly from the USB.
The one I finally settled on was the LG Model GSA-E50L...Black/Silver 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 6X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 16X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache USB 2.0 Slim External SUPER MULTI DVD Burner with LightScribe

It was 109.99 from Newegg.com. I know there are plenty of options but I definitely wanted one that would travel well. One of the reviewers used his with an Asus EEE, so I figured he had gotten it with the same concerns as me...namely, portability. -
Ewiz.com has this for $399 Free Shipping

It works on the Asus 1000H as well (the only EEE I have access to). -
Quick question, Does anyone think I will need to keep antivirus on this thing? I've had it for 3 weeks running the mcafee trial bt it seems unnecessary. All i do is facebook, notebookreview, etc and download a few things like itunes music, and possibly some legitimate programs (nothing containig viruses) So do you think I even need antivirus?
-
Remove the mcafee trial and install a free av if you don't feel like paying. AVG, Avira are two of the more popular free ones.
