    Hi SSX4life

Great post and guide. I to have a 5671wlmi which has run hot for years but now has packed and I was hoping for some advise. When i try to turn it on the the fan engages but then stops and the start up process fails. A friend of mine has suggested that the fan is bust and that i should replace it along with the CPU at the same time. if you have any advise i would be very greatful

    Thanks

    Hi,

Nice to see i'm not the only owner of a 5672wlmi left (x1600 and 2GB ram from jr.com - i didn't add any ram, it came like this).
I'd like to add that i've replaced my CPU with a a Core 2 Duo T7200@2GHz a couple of years ago and since then i've set a couple of records in terms of heating. After many hours of continuous play i usually get 99 C in Everest, but a couple of times i got a staggering 108 C. I don't know if Everest reports the real CPU temp. It rarely shuts down completely. This kind of heating doesn't bother me at all, moreover it keeps the bill for heating down in the winter :D.

The only visible problem over the years was the fact that the touchpad board overheated so much that the audio port begun failing. In the beginning, for a couple of minutes, then for days and now it does not work at all unless i keep temp down (around 55-60C). I've added AS5 from the beginning, changed fan twice (because i dropped the acer and the fan begun making noise) and even changed touchpad board (which includes audio card). The new audio board stopped working after a few weeks. The old one had visible burns on it :).

I do not think the new CPU is the source for problems because my friend has exactly the same model with stock CPU and it heats the same.

I'm very happy with my machine, I don't complain, just want to add this as an info. I'm interested though if there are proud owners like myself that would like to share their experience in modding or using this notebook. One thing is clear, i don't think of buying a new notebook yet and i think it's a wonder how 5672 wlmi keeps up with today's software, operating systems and games even after 4 years.
