I'm not much of a gamer either. I'm currently agonizing over whether to order the 1410 with SU3500 or SU2300. I'm leaning toward the SU2300 right now for it's better flash-handling capabilities. Also, it's $50 cheaper. The downside being that the 2GB stick I already have will have to replace a 1GB in the SU2300 model while the other model has an open slot. There's no way I'm buying a 2x2GB kit at current prices.

No question, I'd absolutely go with the SU2300. I too agonized over the decision and decided that since the trend is definitely towards multi-core processors, buying a single core is basically purchasing obsolete technology.

Plus, the 1410 with SU2300 I got the chance to play with for a few days was so nice and fast, it sold me.

Where are you even finding the SU2300 1410 in stock??

I'd always go for the SU2300. Not just for flash. The dual core helps out with multiple processes, which are always running.

I ordered my AS1410 (SU2300) from Newegg with express processing and overnight shipping. It arrived in 20 hours. I agree with a previous poster that this is the perfect machine for those of us who need mobility, decent CPU power & graphics but aren't much into gaming.

So far, it's everything I've been wanting for years. Only 3 lbs, good resolution screen, fairly good battery life and easy to type on keyboard. After going through a dozen laptops and 3 netbooks, this is the one I'll be keeping for a long time.

Newbie to the site, here. So - I am looking at both of the Acer 1410s on Amazon right now, and the one with the SU2300 is $50 more.

I will primarily be working one program at a time, but I want CLEAN streaming performance.

IF high resolution streaming (Hulu, Netflix, YouTube) with limited/no choppiness is my goal - do I need the dual core? (Yes - I have clean broadband with an N-router)

Does dual core improve streaming performance? The SU3500 has the 3MB cache vs. the 1MB in the dual core. What does this do for you?

Confusing decision to say the least! Thank you in advance!

As far as I know Flash can use both cores, so the SU2300 will have the advantage.

Edit: Just checked it, it does.

Thanks, Phil. So I take it Flash is the primary consideration in streaming content? Within my own network, I imagine streaming from a dedicated desktop I am using for media content will be limited only by router and NIC speeds. It largely seems with website streaming that it is driven by the decision of the hosting site.

For instance, I love the clarity and options of streaming at Fox OnDemand, but they require the "Move Networks" download to play content. I have no problem loading the plugin, but I am curious if the streaming function would still be Flash based in that instance?

For reference, the Acer model I am looking at seems to be a new variant that even Acer doesn't have on their website. The AS1410-2990 . From what I can glean this is the SU2300 proc, 64-bit Win 7 Home, 2 GB RAM in a 1/1 config (darn), and 250GB hard drive. That seems to be the difference compared to the earlier 1410s with the SU2300 that had only the 160GB drive and Vista. So, the $50 price increase gets me the latest version of Windows and a 250GB HD. Looks like everything else is the same.

By the way - I am reading more and more on this site and the content is awesome. Glad to be here!

Yes Youtube and Hulu are pure Flash based websites.

Asus 1201N is even better at Flash performance because of the ION chipset, which does a better job accelerating Flash than the Intel 4500.

I don't know about Fox or Move networks.

Dan, I'd definitely go for the SU2300.

All my research said that the dual-core will just about always be the best choice.

I have the 1410 with 2300 and could not possibly happier with its performance, for what it's worth.

    i paid 34000rs(approx 650$ )for 4810t

SU3500 does have Speedstep and 3MB chache, while SU2300 has no Speedstep and 1MB cache.

This will result in better battery life for SU3500 during low intensity work.

So it seems like there are three different versions of the AS1410.

SU2300: 1.2gHz dual core celeron (comes with win7)
SU3500: 1.4gHz Core 2 Solo (comes with Vista)
    Celeron M 743: 1.3gHz single core (comes with win7)

Kind of annoying to figure things out but I went with the SU3500 w/Vista. It's for my boss, and the office has vista on all the machines so I figure if the IT guys have to step in, it's probably easier to have everyone on the same page. The most intensive thing he's using is quickbooks so he'd probably be fine with any of the three and the SU3500 version is the cheapest one out there at the moment.

Get the one with the SU2300. That's what I have and I'm really happy with it. For everyday, real-world usage, you'll be better of with the SU2300. I did a lot of research on this because I also was wondering which to get.

I have a SU2300 as well and am confident in saying you do not lose anything without speed step. It is an overrated feature, the lack of numbers to back up the claim and the battery life the su2300 gets from a smaller 4400mah battery shows it's comparable with the SU4100/SU7300.

Btw, the SU4100 does not have speed step either. No one ever complains because it's model comes with the 5600mah battery and gets comparable battery life to the SU7300.

From my own tests, with Wifi on but not transmitting, screen on and with lowest brightness level, and idle cpu, my SU2300 reached an idle of 4.7 watts. That's impressive by any standards. And in my regular light internet usage with 25% on battery, Batterybar has my statistical average power drain as ~7 watts.

just to make everything clear! i have both processors in use!
my wife have Acer Aspire AS1410(SU2300). and i have from work Gateway EC1803u(Acer clone with SU3500).

Battery. max that im getting with wife's acer is 3hourse! with Gateway about 5.5hourse!
    Flash 10.1
    both the same performance.
    1080P youtube both about 20-25FPS.
in internet and flash games SU3500 is much better because its runs it on same performance but much better battery time and heat is much less.
i dont see any advantage in SU2300 on SU3500 and SU3500 on SU2300. they are the same performance in real live. maby on benchmarks 2300 is better. but for real live i woud get now 3500.
