I'd like to see a larger drive (80 or 100 GB) @ 7200rpm. I'm surprised no manufacturer has put one out yet.

I have the same notebook, but your CPU usage is horrible... Check whether you have set the DMA transfer instead of PIO mode on the Disk controller.
Your transfer rates are not very nice as well... -

jj, the usage were horrible..no it s ok -
Someone wanted to know the results from an Acer Aspire 5024, well this is the 1st run test from mine with the Seagate 100GB 4200rpm 8mb cache drive.
I watched task manager as it ran, the drop in transfer rate was due to Norton kicking in for a moment. Other than that nothing else much was running. Also I changed the default Fat32 formatting to NTFS, why do Acer use Fat32??
I'm sure a 7200rpm drive would really speed this laptop up as it feels like the drive is holding it back. Other than that it's a blinding laptop.

And I didn't see that disk is twice faster when I compare it with XP Pro 32bit.
XP Pro 64bit is faster, I agree, many of programs starts faster, but not twice. Parhaps we should wait for HDTune64 to see the correct values. Did also someone else tested the HDD and got much faster results ? -

Sometimes i heard a kind of sound from near of my DVD and i don't know what it is. I'm using ACER ASPIRE 1692WLMI.
I save these sound for you try to guess it.
BTW, when i scan my drive this sound stop. And any problem was found in my HD.

Don't be overly worried if your CPU processor is at 100%, it is mostly when you launch a application. It is fine if the CPU usage spicks to 100% once in a while. You can press Alt-Ctrl-Del to monitor the CPU usage. And may i know what codec you use fo your recordings? i can't seem to open it.
-
Huumm ..
Codec: MPEG AUDIO CODEC
I'm using Windows Media Player 10 to hear it.
Thank you for your help.

I have e-mailed Acer tech support about this and am waiting for their reply, however, if they already gave you an answer, can you e-mail me what they told you at edmondbbad _at_ hotmail dot com

I am pretty happy with the Transfer Rate Average. Only I figured the Burst Rate would be a little higher. And sometimes the transfer rate sinks to a minimum (see the low transfer rate minimum) and stays there for a couple of seconds before it goes back up. I also notice that when I load programs, it just takes forever sometimes to load, let's say, the Internet Explorer window. It shouldn't be like that with a 7200rpm drive and 1,5GB RAM, right? -
