    Hi Fr3@k

You have been a great help!

Thanks a lot for the pics ... a pic speak more than a thousand words indeed lol ;-)

Btw how's the speed you getting from the Sierra card? Have you tried to test the speed using speedtest.net or speakeasy.net?

To now i´ve only tested the speed with the Qualcomm 3G Card pulled from my Aspire One A150X, with that card i get 4,3Mbit Down and 1,2Mbit UP, ISP is "Mobilkom Austria (A1)"

I haven´t testet the Sierra Card yet :D

    EDIT:

With die Sierra Card i´ll getting 3,1Mbit Down an 0,1Mbit Up

    Hello,

I asked the thing to local county manager ( since I am an ex-hardware editor, I have some contacts) but he did not reply me yet. It it is available, that would be a nice addition storage for OS, and we can use magnetic HDD for storage only. 64 GiB should be okay for any OS for now.

By the way did anyone check that SATA connector if it works or not?

But there is one problem, i´ve not testet the SATA Connector yet but, the connenctor is for an Slim SATA LW which uses an other connector than 2,5" HDDs, i don´t know if there is any adaptor

Hmm lets look for a suitable drive or for a converter. What is the full name of this kind of connector? Slim SATA LW? Let's look it up.

Slim SATA i think is the name, the interface is similar to the normal SATA you can connect a common SATA Cable to it but the powerconnector is a bit smaller

Glad that others are starting to trickle in and this can be the central 3810 mod thread it seems. :)

So we need a different cable for the bluetooth module? Mine arrived today but now I don't want to open to machine if it won't work.

I'm an impatient one so I ordered the 3810 ebay module as well. Obviously I'll have to wait a while but it shipped yesterday. I hope at least one works!

I believe they use the same motherboard, as the 3810 has a spare SATA slot with power as shown in the pic. I can't imagine why they'd put that in a 3810 since theres no room to use it for anything.

I am buying the HD decoder. Will also be adding the X25-M G2 SSD in the end of the year when price comes down a slight bit and they can be had at the $200 mark or a bit less.

    icase,
I'll install the bluetooth module some time this week when I get some time and let you know if it just needs another cable.

    Hello,

I bought two modules (second one for anyone around me who may need this) from the auction mentioned and I received them today. I picked up one of them and after a whole disassembly I placed the module in its place, and screwed everything back after I checked the module if it was working in semi-assembled mode... Everything works fine! Thanks for the disassembly guide, it was helpful. :)

icase81, I too think your module was DOA, since I ordered exactly the same part as you and it didn't require me a fixation with the cable. Did/will you get a replacement?

By the way, for those who will add Bluetooth to their Timeline 3810T, do not panic if Windows Vista with SP2 does not recognize your device (but pops up a new device found warning). This version of Broadcom Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR is not recognized right out of the box by Windows. You should install proper driver (can be found from Acer's website) and it will work fine.

The good thing is, Bluetooth switch shotcut on keyboard works fine and also it is independent from Wi-Fi switch.

    Take care,

I am considering adding bluetooth to my 5810TZ and I found this on ebay, I believe that the adapter for the 3810T and 5810T are the same with the 4810T just having a built in cable found this listing on ebay:

    For 3810T and 5810T

    For 4810T

They appear to use the an 8 pin cable that uses all 8 pins.

I tried my BT module from the first ebay link as well and it didn't work. Now I have to wait for the module/cable from the second link to get here.

I tried upgrading my BIOS to 1.08 & 1.10. I updated Vista to SP2. I rehooked up the module to make sure the connection was good. I did hit the Fn + F3 combo. I tried installing the BT software and got the following (also shows what hitting Fn + F3 does):

To the people that got the first module to work, what version of the 3810t do you have and where are you located?

icase81, is your laptop from the US? Maybe there is something slightly different about the US models? Mine is a 3810T-8503 from newegg.

I think there is physically only one way to connect the cable. Hopefully you can prove me wrong if not...I can't get mine to work either.

Also, did you try the HD decoder card yet?

    Thanks.

Forget it, this is impossible because the Motherboard has only an Mini PCIe Slot Not a Mini PCI Slot, and the PErformance of such a card would be very terrible compared to the Intel GMA 4500 =)

    Hello,

I also should say that there is only one way to install module. I am going to update the post with my spare module's photo which is proven to work out-of-the-box so that everybody can get clear on how cables are placed.

At first I didnt find any SIM slot on my 3810T (AS3810T-944G50n), but since it does say 'WAN Ready' on the specs sticker I examined it some more. I found the sim slot looking closely, it was covered with a black sticker. See attached images (image below with sticker reattached, it was harder to see at first).

I think icase81 contacted the seller via email and got him to ship a cable but I'm not too sure. The best bet would be to try and talk to the seller...I have no idea where else to get such a tiny cable.

    Hello,

4-pin cable works for me. No problems at all.

The other identical module like one I am using right now.

By the way, that internal port works as an USB port and USB works with 4 pins (Maybe 4+2, with more ground pins), but not with 8 pins. Some of the cables might be defective ( wrong-ordered pins or non-fuctional) but they are not less capable than required.

Mine was definitely the cable. The seller sent me a new 8 pin cable, which showed up yesterday. The module works fine now. Not saying 4 pin isn't enough, but the cable I received was definitely not the correct cable. The ebay seller made good on his deal and word that it would work. Much more than I expected from an anonymous Chinese ebay seller to be honest.

    Hello,

icase81, it is good to hear that your problem is solved. Well, there is sure a problem with bundled cables. Some of them work and some of them do not.

By the way should we keep a track of 7 and 21 Mbit 3G mini PCI Express cards that work with integrated SIM slot?

where is ur sim slot? i have a 4810T and behind the battery a piece of plastic was covering something, i took off the tape and there was a slot, but it was too big for a sim card and it would have just fallen straight thru if i put it in. what is that?

It's the opening for a sim-slot that isn't populated. You would have to mod the board and add a sim holder to use it.

You would most likely have to add the mini-PCIe slot too and maybe other missing components. I remember the effort Tankgrl had to go through with her 3G Mod in the Aspire One. Your best bet(and the cheapest solution) would be to just use an external 3G USB dongle. If you find a free internal USB connection you could mod it inside the case.

    That's cool :)
Then you could just buy a mini-PCIe 3G with integrated SIM holder. You could eventually borrow one of the Wifi antennas and use it for 3G.
    JKK did such Mods often.

SIM card slot with a card inserted looks like this. I have an usable connector but no HSDPA card to use it at the moment.
