Working great on a 3 year old Synaptics Touchpad 5.9, except no chiral motion nor pinch zoom. Otherwise impressive! I'm working with a Gateway CX210X convertible TabletPC. When I send this unit in for repair (motherboard problem) I might well get an upgraded unit with a new version trackpad since they didn't make many of my model. It is unfortunate that the two-finger scroll basically only does PgUp/PgDn or one "scroll" (~3 lines) up or down at a time.

Installed these drivers and they worked...but not how I wanted.

Yes, I can change what the media buttons do and the light level, the chiral motion and momentum thing but I could no longer configure the buttons for use in winamp (global hotkeys). When I tried to add hotkeys nothing would be recognised as pressed. So I changed back to my previous drivers (9.2.5.0) as I can use the buttons with winamp although the media tab is not there.

Did I do something wrong? I uninstalled the drivers and also removed the synaptics program before installing. BTW, I have vista home premium x64.

I installed them on the G50V but I don't see any of the options mentioned in the first post. I followed the installation instructions exactly. Any ideas? Chiral motion sounds great to me

Well that's great coz Chiralmotion didn't work on Firefox for me

I don't own a Gemstone 2 laptop so I can't help you with the Cinedash. Sorry.. I would try looking around the registry for the Cinedash settings.

Acer Arcade works from an extra partition on your hard drive so settings in your normal OS should not affect that of Acer Arcade IMHO.

Hmm I would modify the path for this key to the one used by Winamp's commandline (I use WMP :p )
    HKLM\Software\Quanta\QtzgAcer\Settings\Buttons\My Aspire

Haven't tried it yet but thanks for the info :D

As above, unless someone would send me a Gemstone 2 laptop for Chrismas :D

I think all those gestures are coded in the touchpad's firmware. Certain versions have these features locked or unsupported, while the newer models have unlocked firmwares. I believe this has to do with licensing issues between Synaptics and the laptop manufacturers. Otherwise, why isn't there a single touchpad firmware update utility?

Actually my mod has some extra files and INF customizations for Acer Gemstone 1 models only. No harm trying it out on your Gateway though :D

Sorry, Synaptics added a hardware lock for advanced gestures in their driver from v11 onwards.

Probably. Give it a try and let us know :)

Hmm. I can't answer you now but I think I should get a copy of Winamp and try it out.

Sorry but this mod has only been tested on the Acer Gemstone 5920G. I can't really help you with the G50V (awesome laptop though).

I've been having a hell of a semester so my apologies for the late replies. Will be having my exams next week. :(

I just loaded them on my Asus N50Vn under Vista x64 and it works fine, however initially had the same issue, i just didn't have the control panel or tray icon to get to the settings. Go into the synaptics directory C:\program files\synaptics\syntp and click on "SynAcerCPL.cpl" this should bring the control panel where you can again set the tray icon to always be there.

The options now have Chiral Motion etc, but as mentioned Firefox doesn't like it. :( Which is the only disappointment. Thanks to the OP for the modified driver.

This modded driver is working fine on Windows XP Pro SP2 installed on Asus EEE PC 701. :)

But I can't see all options visibile in screenshots, so I wonder if what I see in preferences dialogs depends on hardware capability: is this driver supposed to enable multitouch on mousepad? Or just gestures and clicks?
How can I know if my mousepad does support multitouch?

Thanks for these modded drivers, they work quite well on my DELL Vostro 1500 with a Synaptics v6.3.
Is there any chance to add the pinch function?

I found these drivers http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_984.html which clearly contain it. Is it possible to bypass the hardware lock or to port pinch back to the old drivers where the lock isn't used yet?

Hey its good news for the future guys, im running this driver on an Aspire 5920G, under Windows 7 build 7068 x64. Strangly enough, although the driver doesnt 'remember' you clicked for the record light to be on in Vista, Windows 7 does!

But now there is a new problem... The volume dial sometimes stops workin

Solve one problem, another raised its fugly face.. its always the way...

Typical. As soon a i posted this it started workin again. .

Oh, Another point. Using WMP, the media keys work flawlessly. Using Winamp....
the only button that works 100% of the time is the stop button lol The rest seem to do what they want

    Thank you very much.

Seems to work well on my Aspire 5920G under Windows 7 RC

Using it to control Winamp now :)

(check you have enabled hotkeys in Winamp as mine didn't need any setting up at all)

My record button is used to open Winamp under the "Open default media player" option.

Just need to get my volume knob working a little better :D

Off topic, a guy with 2 posts in 2008 has my usual username *sigh*

I have an empty tap where the original Acer MediaTouch Settings used to be, with just a button saying "DS_DEFAULTS". Drivers are installed on a clean Vista Business 64bit.
The modded LuxPad settings and Touchpad settings work fine. Btw. how do I control the rec-light. I can assign any event to the rec-button like to the other buttons but I can't switch off the red light.

I have Dell's Studio XPS 1350, it has the synaptics pinch and circular scroll enabled, however other gesture than that is not supported and i've been looking for a way to enable the chiralmotion momentum and 2 fingers / 3 fingers functions...

I was using the two finger scroll software, but despite it's functionality, sometimes when activated the pinch function from dell, the trackpad was mixing between two finger scroll and pinch.

Im gonna try this modded drivers and update.

BTW if you need me to upload dell's drivers in case they might work and incoporate the pinch function into the old ones, just pm me.

    Thanks

    Update:

Voodoo drivers do work, at least with studio xps 1340, one disadvantage, for some reason it wont recognize two fingers or three fingers functions, therefore you have to use Two Fingers scroll as well.

    But the voodoo drivers include:
    pinch
    momentum
    chiralmotion

Maybe with the acer, etc... compatible models, the multitouch features work.

Does anybody knows how to get this features into this dell's model. (studio xps 1340

    GL

BTW, the Voodoo drivers can be downloaded from HP site:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3817285&os=2093&lang=en

These drivers don't seem to work completely with the Asus G50. Chiral motion is in the menu, but doesn't work, and there's no sign of 2- or 3-finger gestures.

Any help to get the latter working would be greatly appreciated, though my suspicion is that the touchpad on the G50's just can't handle >1 touch.

This shows up as 6.2 in the device menu, how can I make it 6.5?

EDIT: Missed the guide on the second page, will try that first

EDIT #2: Nope, still shows up as 10.2.4 in device manager but 6.2 in the mouse menu. What can I do?

just typed these in asus forum and would put it down here for those who are still using a 10.2.4 hacked driver.

If you still wathching this thread, try type
    Code:
    taskkill /im SynTPEnh.exe
in a notepad and save it as .bat file, OR simply run this command. It will enable you of using Chiral in Firefox. I have no idea how this can happen but it works like a charm, the only thing annoys is that I'll have to see a bat autorun everytime I start my computer, because I put the .bat profile into the startup folder...

btw, this command do not actually kill the syntpenh.exe process, but it works somehow..

synaptics SUCKS... no reason is worth to software-ly lock the feature they has put onto a device, no reason. We seriously need some insiders in their company to help us out and completely unlock all features.

    Hi guys,

Has anyone noticed when you press the illuminated acer media touch buttons, they light up brighter for a few seconds if it registered your press in general, but this is separate to whether an actual programor software registers that as a press or not, just the hardware in the media touch buttons illumination sensitivity?

For example you run your finger along the buttons, the lights get brighter so the computer obviously registers you press, but nothing necessarily happens on screen/software wise. And if you just simply press harder it Will beep and register it!

    What is going on? :S

It appears the illumination sensitivity is affected by adjusting the sensitivity and palm check in the synapsis media touch, but the sensitivity of whether the OS registers it is another matter.

I cant get the acer media touch buttons to work unless I have selected default sensitivity and palm check. AT all other ettings they simply do not beep no matter how you press them. And even at default, I have to press hard enough or move my finger sideways across the buttons to get a reaction and beep from the computer, even thought the buttons illuminate with much lighter touches, nothing happens in programs unless I press them harder.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

It is the same with both the old drivers and these new modded 6.5 ones.

Also I finally managed to get the buttons to work with winamp, but very poorly. If I press play/pause button ONCE, winamp goes nuts and registers it as like 5-10 clicks. But windows medial player works fine with the buttons with this new 6.5 software. I also saw the post about disabling WMP when pay button is pressed by regedit.

Also about the adjusting the illumination brightness, Is it only supposed to work for the red record button light? None of the other buttons seems to respond to that setting.

    EDIT:

I just found out the Laucnh manager has a lot to do with these buttons and settings. I just killed it and it soved my winamp going beserk registerting multiple presses problem.

Can anyone explain why killing Laucnch manager, disables the giant E button on the laptop, and the stickman button, but not the email or browser buttons on the left side of the laptop :S?

ALso the laucnh manager controls a lot more than just the 3 settings it allows you to change does it not?etc it lauches WMP with the play button, show syou volume adjust scale when usning the knob and controls the scaling of how much you have to turn the button vs how much the volume is adjusted etc.

Did anyone make a fully configurable launch manager mod/alternative yet?

Ok I wanted to say, I just tried this pacth http://www.larserikmiedema.nl/blog/?p=101 and it did a few weird things.

The reason the illumination of ther red button turns off is not because of a restart or the synapsis settings failing to save. Its because of the laucnh manager. Its directly tied into that somehow! I just restarted my laucnh manager with that new patch and my light turned off by itself. That patch also disabled WMP being laucnhed by the play button. How it is any different to the registery fix provied on page 2 by the OP?

Anyway these are not really big concerns to me. I got the media buttons working fairly decently But thought id share this giant post anyway.

Althougt I would not mind knowing if there is any use to the laucnh manager if you do not use the stickman or E buttons BESIDES the volume control function scale up and screen dispaly ? Id like to get rid of laucnh manager completely? I dont really use the shortcut buttons, I mean whats the point?

ALso does the record button only launch the NTI CD AND DVD maker?

This Post really helped a lot.
I have an acer aspire 5290g and had problem with the MediaTouch Buttons when running Windows XP.

The quick launch buttons could not operate.

Just uninstall any synaptics driver from Add/Remove programs and install the program that lies in the beginning of this post.

Thanks man. You are a saviour.

Alright, I really need some help here.

I've installed the modded driver according to the instructions, however I cannot see the 2/3 finger gesture tab in the menu (the only addition I found was "momentum"). I have restarted the computer after uninstalling the previous drive and after installing the modified version, even tried the latter twice and still no results.

I'm using a Dell XPS M1330w with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm trying to do the same thing that Discrucio has done here with ELAN drivers for other notebook models.

Problem is, I don't have a whole lot of idea what I'm doing.

ELAN sued Apple a few years back for violating their multitouch patent. There was a lot of media about it at first, but nowhere can you actually find how the whole thing was resolved. Well, I'm pretty sure what happened. A few months later, almost every single multitouch gesture had disappeared from Elan's drivers. I'll bet Apple paid them off, and made them agree to take certain multitouch functions out of their drivers.

So I'm left 3 types of ELAN drivers to work with:

    - Some old ELAN XP/Vista EEE PC drivers that were released right before the lawsuit that support the multitouch features. Unfortunately, I can't get them to install onto my ASUS laptop with Windows 7, it keeps telling me I don't have the right hardware.

    - My current ELAN Win 7 touchpad drivers, multitouch neutered. The driver files are all right around the same size as the EEE PC drivers, so I'm almost certain that they contain the multitouch support, just locked. On the ELAN website, it even has a video of the multitouch features in use, but the driver download webpage is gone now and they refer you to your laptop manufacturer for neutered drivers. I guess that way they don't have to take the blame.

    - ELAN Win 7 external USB touchpad multitouch drivers. Identical to the above drivers, just that they will only install if a USB touchpad is attached, and presumably, will only only work for that device. Must be the settlement with Apple didn't include external touchpads, as the USB touchpad fully supports all of the multitouch features.

Attempts to hack the ASUS EEE PC netbook ELAN touchpad drivers to accept my ASUS notebook's ELAN touchpad hardware (which is virtually identical) and install have been unsuccessful, setup continues to fail and tell me that the driver will only work for an ELAN Smart-Pad (which is what I have!) The .inf for the EEE PC drivers even has a set of entries to enable and disable the touchpad multitouch features... the newer drivers do not... otherwise it would be child's play to unlock.

I've been trying to use a modified version of the USB touchpad's .inf file on the current drivers to unlock the multitouch options, but it doesn't seem to be working.

If anyone is interested in helping me (Discrucio? :D) please let me know.

We shouldn't be locked out of multitouch on our laptops because Apple paid off the touchpad manufacturer.

Maybe a registry hack will do it.
There is a key HKEY_USERS\{User-ID}\Software\Synaptics which keeps a lot of information, but I don't have skill nor time to try (and error).

On my Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows 7 Professional x64, I first installed the unmodified driver provided by Acer, then installed Scrybe with the latest Synaptics driver, and finally used Two Finger Scroll from Google Code. I got the following gestures to work:
    Two Finger Scroll
    ChiralMotion
    ChiralRotate
    Three Finger Flick
    Three Finger Tap

@ Acer5920G: May you can do a detailed instruction how to get it working.
I installed the modded 10.2.4 and then scrybe. After that it deleted the synaptics entrie in the mouse settings and the media keys doesn't work anymore after that. And in addition the buttons of the program scrybe doesn't contain any text and letters, only blank buttons.
    Please can you help me.

No touchpad drivers are generic like Nvidia released drivers.
They use all in 1 driver meaning same driver configured for use on multiple devices.

    Hello,
Thank you for making these cool drivers for us.
I'm using an Acer Aspire 8920 with media panel on the left side, but all of a sudden it stopped working (nothing lits up). then i found this site, but now i'm wondering, could you mod the synaptics drivers for my laptop as well? so i can have these nice little addons? (or maybe it already excists.. :s) and will i be able to use the chiralscroll and momentum and what ever things there are more for the touch pad, on my laptop? :)

    Thanks in advance

Edit: Ok, after some testing, i found a way to re-enable my cinedash media control panel, i have the modded drivers, i can use chiralscroll and momentum, i have installed Scrybe and now i can do ALOT with my touchpad (really awsome). there are just a few things i cant do yet, that's the pinch and the 3 finger gestures :)

SO, problem solved! Thanks anyway man ;)

    Go to c:\ program files\scrybe
then rename scrybeus.dll to scrybe.dll, this brought back the letters.

Helo everyone! have a happy new year! This is the first time that i am writting in this forum.
My problem is that i've followed three times the instractions of the first page in order to make the touch panel to work again but nothing have chainged.
It constantly has the mute icon ON and yet the volume wheel is 100 percent up and i cannot use it either during movies or listening to music.
I dont know if it important to mention but the touch pad for the mouse is working properly. The problem is only at the Media touch pad at the left side of the Laptop.
During the steps i 've noticed that there no field named "Acer Media Touch" at the "Mouse Properties Field". Moreover at the "Device Settings" field there is NO "Synaptics LuxPad V6.5" option to use, only the "Synaptic TouchPad V6.3". I guess that i have an issue here as well, since in the intractions of the firts page it has the version 6.5 not the 6.3
PLEASE HELP ME!! My only alternative option is to get the laptop to a service area and i am out of warranty... NOTE that my laptop is an Acer Aspire 6920 and i am running on Vista Home Primium.

HI AGAIN! i want to say to everyone that has the same problem with the Acer Media Touch (Arcade Delux), the solution is very simple and it has nothing to do with Synaptics! Just Shut Down your laptop, then remove the battery for about 10 seconds, replace and opet the machine and the problem will be solved! It has been tested on my laptop! an Aspire 6920 and worked pretty well!
