hey there,
i used the script on my 1810tz, ubuntu 10.4
what went wrong?
e: k, forgot the --install :F

EDIT: After some tries I just put the battery back on and the touchpad started working again... o_o -
What about DXVA in Ubuntu and Video drivers for 4500MHD? HD Video is very slowly and much CPU time need.

the touchpad issue has bothered me too.. I did it liked better in ubuntu 9.10, where the xbindkeys trick worked perfectly, always.
I don't know exactly when or why it happens.. but after messing with gconf and enabling / disabling and so on the touchpad is back, a bit strange..
About DXVA.. in linux right now it only supports Mpeg2 streams, no h.264 or vc1 yet. Also, it's quite a nightmare to install and setup. -
I can't install two-finger touchscroll or multitouch on Ubuntu 10.04

Hi, all!
how I can see Vcore voltage by lm-sensors?
Ubuntu 10.4+acer1810 -
Hello, I find a solution for the internal mic problem:
You have to install pavucontrol
$sudo apt-get install pavucontrol
Then go to sound&video menu - PulseAudio volume control - Input device tab: down the left volume to 0%
For skype you have to uncheck the "Allow skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels"
It works for my 1410 and a Asus 1201n
PD1: Sorry for my english, I'm from Perú and now I live in Argentina
PD2: In the Asus 1201n I have to install the linux-backports-modules-alsa package too -

I'm trying out Peppermint ICE as an experiment. It's based on 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 but uses a LXDE desktop. It's boots a lot faster than my 32-bit Ubuntu install and LXDE is noticeably quicker. (I've also have Peppermint One installed. I think I might like it a little better, but haven't done much with it yet.) I've mounted my Home and Opt partitions and it seems to work really well. I even did a little Flex development in Eclipse.
So here's my question. Will the power saving script work with Peppermint? -
Hello, I got this, instlling the power saving script on ubuntu 10.04:
-
Ok, first I've installed 0.4.0.2 and after last acerhdf from the website, it's 0.5.4.
I could get the script to work but I unistalled it since the temp got too high, so I prefer to have loud fan than hot pc. But now in most of new installations I get this error: -
Upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10

Can someone post 10.04 output of iwconfig?
Update
802.11n seems to be disabled in 10.10:
Networking & WiFi
802.11n support for the iwlagn driver has been temporarily disabled. Intel is actively working to get this properly fixed up in the firmware. This workaround should be reverted once updated firmware is available. (630748)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes -
Solution to enable 802.11n :
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf
options iwlagn 11n_disable=1
to
options iwlagn 11n_disable=0
And restart -
Any ideas? -

you were and, in fact, are speaking from a acerhdf.c file in /usr, I'm talking about /usr/src/acerhdf_kmod.
Can you please do the following:
./InstallAcer_11.6_PowerSaving.sh --install acerhdf
if it doesn't work, try ./InstallAcer_11.6_PowerSaving.sh --install
Let's see if that helps. -

- The Power Saving and the check script are now INSTALLED
Power Saving features will enable automatically when running
of Battery power and disable when running of AC
You can debug if everything is setup ok by running
CheckPowerSaving in a terminal. Its output will show which
values are applied to each entry, plus the expected value.
- The acerhdf fan control module is now INSTALLED
It will load automatically on boot and start running
when needed. The computer may feel a bit hotter than
without the module, but it will be quieter.

strange.. I don't what to do. I guess you'll have to look into the script and try to do the acerhdf part manually, sorry.

Does this tell us anything new and interesting? -
Installed kernel 2.6.36, now the install script works without a hitch, but dmesg shows the same error and fans are still uncontrolled.
-
PatrickVogeli Notebook Consultant
do you have the packages linux-headers-generic and build-essential both installed?? Without those packages the module can't be built, could you check?
As for the dmesg thing.. no, it doesn't tell anything, just what we already knew: the module isn't being built, so the included in ubuntu one is being modprobed and that one lacks our bios. You grabbed the 2nd script I pasted, right? (couple of pages ago)
That script has worked for me, same bios here. It gets the information of your bios and patches de module accordingly -
Seems to have worked now. Maybe I really didnt get the right script.
Thanks a bunch, Patrick! -

Has anyone else played around with Lubuntu or Peppermint? I've been messing around with them for several weeks now and I'm very impressed with both distros.
Peppermint boot times are really, really, fast at 17 seconds and shutdown times are incredible at 3 seconds. Yes, I said 3 second shutdown times! Average power usage is around 9-10 watts.
Lubuntu on the other hand talks a solid 25-27 seconds to boot and 14-17 seconds to shutdown. While those times are disappointing compared to Peppermints, Lubuntu kills Peppermint with it's efficiency. Lubuntu uses LESS than 8 watts of power with wifi ON and several tabs open. As a matter of fact it's using between 7.4 watts and 7.8 watts as I type this!
Since Peppermint is based on Lubuntu it should be possible to get the best of both worlds with either one. -
Still messing around with Lubuntu. I've seen the battery life on my AS1410 (with the 6hr/4400mAh battery) go from ~4.5 hrs to ~6.5 hours. This puts it in Windoz territory!
LXDE is light and fast but not as polished as GNOME - doing simple things like adding custom menu items is a pain - but if you want a simple, fast, effective desktop it gets the job done. One simple panel with an easy to tweak window list - icons only, flat buttons, combine similar apps, etc. - keeps everything in one place where it's easy to use and leaves the rest of the display for you applications. Perfect for out 11.6" screens. (I put my panel on top and set it up to mimic the panel I used on my stripped down UNR install. This keeps all of my system and application menus at the upper left corner of my screen. I don't understand Ubuntu's need for two panels.)
I think Peppermint might be slightly more polished, but Lubuntu has me hooked for the time being. It's not perfect - I had problems with USB installation until I figured out a workaround - but it's very promising with it's light weight and great battery life. -

I don't use Skype but I was able to get google video to work. Have you tried playing with alsamixer? Alsamixer - ALSA wiki
I think I had to turn the mic up before it would work.
Have you noticed odd behavior with chromium and how it handles downloads in Lubuntu? If you click the download file from the browser, it downloads the file again. I have to go to the downloads folder and open the file from that location to open it. I didn't have these problems with Peppermint. I think it's a little more "finished" than Lubuntu, but I love the battery life Lubuntu gives me. -
Found out how to fix Lubuntu so that Chrome handles downloads properly. Look here: [lubuntu] Chromium "show in folder" and downloads in Lubuntu - Ubuntu Forums

Hi folks!
I'm having a very weird issue with my 1810tz and Ubuntu 10.10: suspend isn't working properly. It has always worked fine, but I think one of the latest updates broke.
I've already tried reverting to an older kernel (I'm running 2.6.35-23-generic, tried 22-generic) and it didn't fix the issue.
What happens is, everytime I click suspend, it takes very long to suspend. I haven't timed it, but I think it takes minutes to do.. Also, after resume, the wireless doesn't come on automatically, it delays quite a bit to come up again.
Anybody is seeing the same issue? I has always worked fine, wether 9.10, 10.04 or 10.10 until now.
Ideas are welcome! -
I'm having weird problems with 2.6.36 and greater and have read reports like yours.
Here is my bug concerning suspend/resume, but different than yours:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645968
Also, on 2.6.36 and greater even before a suspend/resume the mouse trackpad does not seem to work correctly. It moves but not well. -

ouch.. so kernel 2.6.36 doens't seem to be good for our little machines!
Anyway, I fixed my problem. A week ago or so I modified my Power Saving script to include a line to set the CPU scaling governor to On Demand. I had completely forgot about that change and hadn't used suspend since.. That line was causing the pain. I've fixed that using echo ondemand > /sys/.... blablabla and now it works. -
