CQSTELUSH, will you still be writing that biting article about Acer's backwards tech support?

If I were you I would defiantly write that article, the fact that they told you that the subwoofer was not there is just stupid....

Alright, I tried playing an MP3 again and it does work - my hearing must have been off or the room I was in too noisy. Also, it appears it doesn't really make too much of a difference.

The one question I'd like to know is why can't I hear it emit sound when testing using the control panel?

Because it can not reproduce the lower frequencies that are used in that test.

Yes that is correct. The sound test utility produces a LOW frequency note for the subwoofer. The tuba is not a subwoofer. It is just a woofer. I would consider it a midrange speaker in a woofer type enclosure. Acer does not advertise the Tuba as a subwoofer. It is simply a "bass booster" .. For laptop use, it fills that emptiness in most music, but will never be able to achieve a rumble or powerful low note frequency. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I am here to help.

    Actually, I do.
Can you confirm that the Tuba works in both Built-In Speakers AND 5.1 Output mode? Which does it work "better" in?

You've been a big help to us Gemstone owners, AcerPipeLover.
    Kudos are due.

Yes AcerPipeLover you have a been a great help, many thanks :)

And I tested it in built in speakers and 5.1 output mode, i prefer the 5.1 output mode because i personally think that it gives better surround sound however as far as the subwoofer/tuba is considered, after many tests, its the same thing on both settings....

OK, I'm doing some tweaking with my audio driver. Some experimenting, if you will.
I can confirm that the Tuba works in both 2.1 and 5.1 modes.
As well, make sure to crank up the Dolby Natural Bass Boost to realy make an impact!
    1. Right click on your sound icon.
    2. Click on Playback Devices.
    3. Pick your Speakers, then hit Properties.
    4. Switch to the Dolby tab, and crank the Bass Boost from 3 to 6.

Certainly gave some more rumble to my system.

do you guys use the stereo or 5.1 option?
if you use the 5.1 option, what settings do you have it set on?
what do u have selected under "optional speakers", "full-range" speakers, etc.?

I use 2.0 - I can live without the simulated 5.1 sound most of the time, and the Dolby Headphone setting works just fine if I do want it.
