Looks like the data sheet sent is an out of date preliminary datasheet from the fall of 2009.

I have asked the manufacturer's rep for an updated sheet with more registers exposed or the programmer's guide.

Cross your fingers, as I think this is the only way a large number of 3820G owners will gain full control over the clockgen without resorting to blind stabs in the dark on the "reserved" registers.

hey guys... reading this thread for some time now.

i got a 3820g myself and tried some oc with it... primary issue is increasing 3d performance.

but my unit seems to fail, comparing it with other results out there :(

my cpu base core is now 3007 (29/D7/38) stable
my gpu is highest match until now 740/930

    overall score in 3d06 is 9186 :-(

thats not even what others got without cpu oc...
there is absolutely no possibility for me to head up 950 gpu mem... is there any tricky stuff to do? (getting artifacts all over the screen)

    edit: my hardware specs

    i5-540m stepping 5 / rev. K0 (highest temp with oc: 69°C)
hd m 5650 with acer online drivers... not updated yet (highest temp with oc: 75°C)

Here are my initial results from an OC run taken last night using my I7-620M upgraded CenDirect 3820TG

    Base clock: 2830MHz
    Max Turbo clock: ~3.5 GHz
    CPU Temp: 76 deg C

At this time that is the maximum I have been able to achieve. I think I am hitting this limit because I am using 1066MHz memory. I will have 8GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 installed in the system tomorrow, we'll see then.

The unit I received has the same clockgen as my Staples sourced 3820TG, the ICS 9LVS3179B

Just to be a pain in the , I'd argue that indeed that is the 7th bit. The bit on the far right is considered to be the 1st bit, and not the "0th" bit as some would say.

8 bits in a byte, 2 hexadecimal digits to represent a byte.

It's a convention in place to prevent confusion for people who use the 0 to 7th bit scale. If I know 2 hex digits are composed of 8 bits, and you tell me to check the 7th bit, by your counting scheme the MSB (Most significant bit) is the 7th bit(0 to 7, and not 1 to 8) where as the MSB in a 8 bit number should be refered to as the 8th bit.

    Bash away! :)

I am not much for hexidecimal programming. I think I recall that your analysis does not fit with the comments in the PinMod thread. But, I'll leave it up to the programmers to hash this one out. I would, however, like to know the answer is you reach consensus.

    Hi Bronski,

I read with great interest the 800+ pages monster about the 3820TG and now your OCthread.

I am using the shareware version and tried the Asus G73JH pll but got a pll id error after hitting getfsb. Then I followed your advice trying the SLG505 family. In most cases I got system freezes except for the SLG505YC56DT with the settings 712/760 and 160/190. With those settings I reached 2720 as basis and 3034 in the turbo mode. Other settings with that pll does not provide other FSB values. Once set I cannot change the FSB any longer, except to reboot the machine.
The byte 09h shows in bit 6 a 1. I have no experience in changing register values of a selected pll.
What do you recommend? I want to go beyond the 160 FSB.

    Thanks,
    tome

    Hey Bronsky,

I have been checking this thread and I followed the information on the first page and my 3820tg should be able to overclock butthe version i have is a little bit different.

The spec is i3 330m and HD5470. Do you have any tips I can find the PLL so i can overlock the CPU?

I know that there were some issues OCing the early arrandales like the I5-430M. I don't recall if there were any problems with the I3-330M. Here is what I would do. I would download the latest version of SetFSB, shareware version. Load it, run a PLL diagnostic and take a screen shot. Then load CPUz and on the last page, under the tools section, press "save report .txt". Now take both of these and send them to Abo-san, the developer of SetfSB along with the 800 yen donation and he will tell you if you can use the Asus G73jh clockgen. If not, he might be able to help you but if he thinks your unit will not OC, he will probably refund the donation. Thats how this thread started.

Before you accept the donation back, I would check for a "1" in the 09h slot and if you have a "0" in the proper slot, try different PLL defs with trial and error. You might try the ones that have worked a bit for the I5-430M owners, as the early Acers may share a similar PLL.

    Keep us informed.

Yes. Idle temps in low 40C range and highest in mid 70's.

Both. CPU runs a few degrees less than GPU most of the time, when I'm stressing both.

I've gone through a lot of posts, but it's not yet clear to me what's my best option for ICS VS3197BL.

Can anyone help ? Thanks a lot.

Hi, first of all, i have got the i3-350m. Is it even worth overclocking? Im thinking if the temps are fine and system is stable, why not, even if i get like 100mhz oc :p
So, I have found 13 clockgen-s in setfsb 2.2 that didnt give me an error, how do I know which one to use? And some of the clockgens let me adjust 2 sliders, some let me adjust only 1. Hope someone here can help me :)

thanks, but that one doesnt work for me, gives me PLL ID error and frequencys are "unknown". Ive tried changing the FSB with the clockgens that dont give me an error, the result is some other error or no change in core speed :(

Are you using the shareware version of the software with an authorization code? There is an alternative to SetFSB for the 3820TG. If you can locate the 3820TG Tray thread, it discusses it. I think it's called SetPLL.
