Way back in this thread is all the information for Firdouse. They had the 3820TG with the I7-620M but they sold out. The told me they would ship to the US. I would call to see if they have any I5-520 or 450s. Yes, the Singapore notebooks have the US international keyboard.

    Thank you.

You guys are getting lazy, I found this with a "singapore" search in less than 30 seconds.

    http://assets.hardwarezone.com/retailer_pricelist/Firdouse_3.pdf

Here is their circular from may 28th with the sold out I7-620M Acer in it. All contact infromation is there. Don't bother emailing them, they don't answer. You have to call. They are +12 East Coast US. Let me know how it turns out. I had some real communication problems (getting and receiving email) with them and eventually gave up.

    Hi,

You might wanna try contacting this Singapore computer dealer, its quite a big company with lots of shops.

Newstead Technologies Pte Ltd - Contact

I think Firdouse is a small retailer and may not actively check email's and such

    Nice, thanks^

Dang, $1,598 Singaporean to USD is $1,154 dollars...
If that price included shipping it would be more reasonable.

Just curious here... Has anybody picked up a 4820 from microcenter yet?

For $860 it seems like a good deal. I was in Malaysia and Singapore a few weeks ago. Malaysia had the an i5 5650 model for 2700 riggits (~870) dollars. Tried to buy with credit there, but they needed some 'chip' on the card. Singapore had the i7 model, but prices were much higher so I left it at that.

I am tempted to just pick up this model at microcenter, but I also have a liking to the Envy. For 200$ more, I get a slightly better processor, better resolution screen, and all around metal. Debating with myself whether it is worth it.

I thought about the 4820tg, but after reading about how some of them heat up enough to throttle then shut themselves down...decided against it. Wonder why they put two vents on the 3820tg, but only one on the 48 and 58's o_O

Where do you find the i5 5650 for 2700 ringgits? Malaysia only has the 5470 version of 4820...

There are two 4820Ts on Amazon now:

    Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820T-3697 (i5 450m and 500gb hd) - $850

    Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820T-5570 (i3 350m and 320gb hd) -$720

not sure if there are other differences

    I still think the Aspire Timeline AS4820TG-5637 (i3 350m, 320 gb hd, and ATI HD 5650) - $799 is a better deal.

I'm not a big fan of the Intel GMA in the T models. I would rather have switchable graphics (HD 5650 + Intel GMA) in the TG model.

Wow. I was sooo close to shelling out for an Envy 14 and then I saw that the 4820TGs were available at MicroCenter in the US now....

The most important things to me are battery life and weight... But i would like a strong CPU as well. How does the i3 350 stack up to say the i5 450 (what i was planning to stick in my Envy)?

Can someone do me a favor and present a convincing argument for one or the other so I can stop spending all day thinking about this.

    Many Thanks!

i3's don't have turbo boost = doesn't have potential to have higher clocks. If I were you, I'd shoot for an i5 or 620M.

Not quite. Most likely, if there were a 13incher to come out, I think it'd be available either on Amazon or Fry's first. Fry's usually gets the cooler models of notebooks for some reason. Lemme know though, if you spot one, cuz I'd totally get the 3820TG over ENVY if it's coming out.

Some of the Core I3's have similar base clocks to Core I5 430/450/520's. The turbo boost is probably so marginal it's not even worth it.

Someone posted a video of the 48 or 58 turning itself off during one of those game demo benchmarks you can download. Scared me enough to stay away from them. The 3820 definitely seems to have gotten it right though.

There is always hope. :D Acuatlly, I just emailed some marketing folks at Acer USA and asked them if they could get us some 3820TG's. I'll let you know what I hear. I guess since Americans drive big SUVs and pick-up trucks mostly, Acer figured that we would not like small laptops either? :D

There is nothing on the immediate horizon. BTW, anybody see that the N82 and UL30JT have finally arrived in the states. Everybody's trying to get some of those back to school bucks.

    Hi Guys

I am considering to purchase Acer Timelinex 3820TG and 4820TG.
Wonder can anyone advise which is better? I will be using MS Office, listening to music / movie, surfing for research, no gaming, etc.

When I do a hand-on trial on 3820TG, I felt the size is just right (though both keyboard size is the same), there is no optical drive built in and it is amazingly light weighted. As for 4820TG, after the trial on 3820TG, the feeling after the hand-on trail is abit wide / slightly big. However, going without optical drive is something I am not getting used to it. Is built in optical drive important especially in any urgent case like OS corrupted (ie use of recovery CD)?? Will external DVD-RW drive able to use in the aforementioned urgent case, for example??

    Also,
    1) As both models allow Turbo Boost, any advice which website offer the directions on how to overclock CPU to run faster / to make application run faster??
    2) for dual display (one external monitor and one laptop screen), via HDMI or VGA, can I achieve full screen on a 23" external LCD monitor with 3820TG?

Hope you guys could enlighten me.

    Confused

Because the 3820TG has one vent on the left side and one vent on the right side. Missing an optical drive all together.

The 4820TG and the 5820TG has one vent on the left side and an optical drive on the right side (where a vent could have been placed). How would they add a 2nd vent without ditching the optical drive?

Well, It's finally here for us canadian...

The acer 3820tg is available since yesterday at Staples (Bureau en Gros in Qc)
Like some people aleready knew, it's the model with an ATi 5470 card :

    STAPLES | BUREAU EN GROS

    It's also 799.99 CAD.

I have been reading this thread for 2 weeks now and I really wanted to go for a i5/5650 combo, but seeing that it was going to be impossible to buy the german model of the 3820tg, I was almost ready to go for a Lenovo Ideapad Y460 since it has the spec and the price I'm looking for (14", i5-520m/5650 at 944$ with coupons).

    Now I don't really know anymore, so here's a couple question :
1- What do you guys think of the Y460, I know about the terrible heat problem and thats my main drawback. Do you guys think it will still be a durable and reliable machine that will last?

2- How much is the 5470 overclockable? would it still be possible to play games like Mass Effect 2/Dragon Age Origins or bioshock 2 at medium/high?

sorry if it has already been asked before, I just want some opinion to help me decide

    have a good day !

I saw the y460 and y560 at a local Fry's and wasn't a fan at all. I just ordered a dv6t-select edition from HP and if something changes with acer within 21 days, it'll be going back to HP. I dunno, the dv6 was definitely sleeker and better looking to me.

Wow. It looks like all the small performance lappies are starting to come online in North America finally. The waiting is almost over now just need to decide what to get. I think I've narrowed my choices are down to the U33JC or this 3820TG. I could have this 3820 in my hands by Monday (assuming they don't sell out) vs another month for the U33 and its probably at least $2-300 cheaper than the U33. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Edit: Screw it, I ordered her.

The HD 5470 is as powerful as the OLD 9600GT. Although I haven't specifically compared them, I would guess that it is the equiv. of the NVIDIA 320M in the Apple 13" MBP. It has a slight edge over the 310M in the Asus U30JC.

Haven't seen any OC results on the 5470 but I see no reason that it would not OC in the same percentages as the 5650. It shares a lot of stability of the other 5xxx series GPUs.

I would look at the Asus UL30VT, U30JC and the Apple 13" MBP threads to see which games they are playing. You can probably play the same games with a bit higher frame rates if you OC the GPU.

Nice to see the 3820TG on sale in North America finally. So far, AcerInsider has been 100% correct detailing models becomming available in the North American Market. I wonder where the I7-620M 5820TG is going to show up?

Sure wish mine would get here.

    9600M GT GDDR3(almost 6K in 3dmark06) is still more powerful than ATi HD5470 GDDR3(around 4.3k 3dmark06), with 1280x720 resolution....

    Hey guys,

I live in Korea, and just ordered the 3820TG version (i5 430 / 4GB ram / 500GB HDD / HD 5650). I will be getting it tomorrow, will be posting pics and a short review here. BTW, it costs 1066000won here, which equates to about $866USD.

I've only seen good reviews of this unit, especially in the head dissipation department, which is a little bit of a surprise. Hopefully it will live up to the expectations

i am going tonight to buy the one posted at page 374 at staples here in canada to test it out :D lol

I am not really a gamer, but do a lot of video crap so i am not sure how the ati 5470 will hold up? probably wont be able to tell.. as this asus i currently have uses the 9650gt

but i have to call compuuniverse or something cause the check out wont allow 1000euro to be shipping with dhl and UPS is not giving me a rate!

I have family in germrany but i so don't want them to buy it and ship to me and go threw that hassle!
