Just to give this thread a bit more of life, I am in the process of writing a how-to guide for reinstalling windows xp (home / pro / mce2k5 / etc.) using these hidden keys + oembios files on a custom window xp disk. The end result will be a pc that does not require activation because the machine knows that the key + hash files are correct upon installation (Basically recreating what Acer / Dell / Etc. do) ;)

More to come of this soon, I'm just working the kinks out and setting up a full how-to guide.

I have a proof of concept working currently on my acer 5672wlmi that came with windows xp home oem. It is currently running windows xp pro oem and recieves all windows updates and passes wga ;)

Here is a screen shot for you to get your taste buds going ;)

Notice that it is OEM and XP Pro :)

Now check the key that I'm using for this current windows xp installation ^^

The key I am using is the key provided by microsoft on their site. Link - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/oempreac.mspx

And to show that the pc has passed activation take a peek at the mgadiag.exe information presented.

More on this to come later :) But by using the identical terms and steps listed by microsoft as well as a few other msfn board members you can create a windows xp disk that pre-activates on all oem hardware. It does not matter if it is Dell / HP / Acer / Compaq / etc. If the computer reconizes the correct oem vlk windows key and hash files upon install it will pass wga, and do so legally. Just make sure you keep legitimate licensing practices at all times if you do so. Apples with apples people.

    More to come soon.

    Hi Ssx4life
I'd like to upgrade my Home license to Pro but i have 2 problems: my bad english (i'm italian) and also i'm not a computer expert....so I hope that your are patient and can explain me a couple of things before to proceed.
I already have an OEM Pro cd and i downloaded the tool but I do not have a recovery acer dvd (i did an Acronis 14 GB image of my C partition that includes windows and programs and stored it in my external HD).
I've also deleted eRecovery and cannot reinstall it (i can't find in Acer website and the ones I've found with p2p don't work).
So the question is: how can i create a recovery dvd that includes just the necessary to find my hiddes activation keys? Can i make it with Acronis True Image and wich folders do i have to include?
If i will be able to format and hopefully reinstall the Pro OS the first thing it will be to create a clean recovery dvd :)
    Thank you very much...bless.

Let me answer your question in a PM for ya ;)

For the rest of you waiting for a guide to oem pre-activation off of a windows disk I'll get there shortly. :) The method that I am using is fairly basic if you remove some concepts and strip it down to the base level. The one stipulation is that by default there is no easy option for creating the xp disk for acer's. You will have to manually enter files and modify an .inf script to do so.

Until I can get working concepts of auto installations using Acer and other addon's I'm going to hold off ;)

It won't be much longer but with school starting up again I'll be busy.

I'd love to have this thread as well as a few others I have done as stickies, however we have base "How To's: Acer Aspire 5672" sickie to cover this. One thing to mention here is that if I had the chance, I would rename this thread to Unlocking OEM Hardware's Hidden Secrets . The reason being is that this soon to come guide is not limited to just Acer's but any OEM hardware (laptops and desktops alike) ;)

If you have an OEM SLP key on your pc you can make a disk to bypass preactivation every time ;)

More to come soon :) If a mod wants to sickie this by all means go for it.

    Hi,
Jelly Bean found on my Acer just one key excepting the one on the bottom of the laptop. The key is for "MS Windows XP". So how do I figure out which XP it is actually for and why do I have only 2 keys?

Seems the product keys on the Acer disks are junk, they don't work. Microsoft will give you the major run around if you try to install Professional on a Home system and use the key in the XPPARA, XPPCA, XPPHEB, or XPPTHA files (on the restore CD). Bummer I've spent about four hours, only to have to start over again. This thread needs to be amended to save others time and trouble.

i had to format my Acer TravelMate 2428 and the current CD-KEY instaled on my system (WinXP HOME) is one of the backup CD/DVD.

So i was able to find 2 cd-keys +1 COA (my COA is Win XP HOME, the current cd-key is Win XP HOME and i hope the other one is Win XP Pro)

Jive as I mentioned previously they are not junk they are legit keys. You just need the other 1/2 of the files to make them pre-activate. I mentioned this previously in my posts about oembios.ini etc. I also linked to the forums that describe and mention this to you.

They are not junk, if they were junk why would Acer / Dell / Gateway / IBM / Compaq / Toshiba / Fujitsu and any other oem hadware vendor use the same slp keys on all their installs?

The reason is because they are not junk, you just need to include the needed files into your base install of the CD or your System32 directory.

Please read up more before calling them junk

    @spiderdk

The keys you found are SLP keys, please look at http://www.oembios.net/ to find your model of oembios files and either intergrate them into your windows install key or put them in the required files / folders of your windows install.

I linked the forums pages that describe this, please look back a few pages to find out how to do this.

These are not junk keys people, you just need to know how to use them! (aka read up)

You mean Acer provides total crap support but has the time and energy to hunt down and hassle people?
They should put some of that effort into having a support forum on their website.

OK-I get it now.Acer doesn't spend their time hunting down and hassling people.
He meant another company that we all know and love.
