I have just requested for support from Setfsb as my PLL isn't supported, I just want to do it for the fun. BTW, I found my Clock Generator from the BIOS release notes.

I found my pll in the drop down list.

I got my T7200 up to 2.23 GHz, and fsb of 741 MHz, and then put loads on it (converting videos, etc), and let it run for awhile, and the temps were not a bit higher then stock (mid 40's), and also did a windows experience score retest. Before both CPU & memory were 5.0... after both were 5.5. That is a substantial increase in performance.

Just one problem... when I rebooted the settings were gone. I tried two versions of setfsb, one was an older freeware. So there is no way of keeping the settings unless you pay ($39.95?)?

Good find VikingDon, I never knew these existed, very useful in the future. No harm in trying them. Your OC seems very nice, you get a performance of a T7400 with a T7200 OCed.

ellalen... supposedly with CPUcool, you can set the fsb permanently after you register it.

With the fsb @ 741 MHz, better then a T7400. When I got the ram sticks, I made sure they were rated @ 800 MHz, cuz I had overclocking potential in mind. It will be fun to see how much I can really get out of this old cheapo acer.

Loco_Colombian... I'm glad it worked for you. Somehow kizwan's "fixed" bios didn't have the frequency ratio setting. Oh well, you got an advanced options you didn't have with the original bios.

Here's some numbers to go over. The fsb of both the cpu & memory have gone over the max support of 667 fsb. What's interesting, is the memory "type" has changed from PC2-5300 to PC2-5900.

    [IMG] [IMG]

PS Just reading up on the T7600g... it is designed to be overclocked to 3.16 GHz. I'm assuming as it's as compatible as a standard T7600. Does anyone know much about these? Pricey, but well worth looking for a deal on one.

Got the right t7200 coming in about 2 days excite to install it and see the amazing ability of 2 cores at work!!!!! Lol.

So how does the whole virtualization thing work? once I drop it into the computer will there be an option to enable it in the bios? Is there any thing I need to do beyond that and before hand to have it work correctly?

That's right, you still have the celeron right? It will be much faster, and will run cooler at idle, cuz the speed steeping droping down to about 1GHz. Also longer battery life (I never run on battery, so wouldn't know). RouterRugby is the man to ask about virtualization. Actually you wouldn't need to enabled the CPU's virtualization to use Virtual Box. If I want I can run another OS inside it, as a separate PC. For instance I have XP pro in it.

Anyway, been trying to figure out why my laptop's display hasn't been working. I first thought it was the inverter and changed that. That didn't help, so I got a ccfl bulb from ebay. I installed that yesterday (what a job!!). But that didn't help either. I finally found it was the lid actuator switch that was the problem, as it was sticking. I can seem to find them sold anywhere. I will have to tear this apart again, and maybe it just needs cleaning, but wanted to have a new one on hand in case. Anyway, I set my display exclusively for the HDTV I have been using as monitor. You asked before about resolution... in this setting, I can set it up to 2048x1536. Who knows, when my ship comes in, I may get a huge TV, to use as monitor, and TV.

PS yeah, since you flashed that bios, there will be the option to enable virtualization. Look at my bios pic.

Hey, how did you get the info on your laptops to show?? I added some info but it's doesn't show, unless you go to my profile page.

I'm going to try getting the data sheet but I doubt from Acer may be from the chip manufacturers.
I'm running Windows8 DP in my laptop and setFSB is the only program runs smoothly, anyway, if I get it sorted, I'll let you know.
Are you asking about the clock generator number? I got that from the text file included in the BIOS download.
    OR
Are you asking about the Signature? You can do that by going to UserCP on top of the page and select Edit Signature.

By pressing shift key and the adjoining key you can put the divider. But your keyboard may differ, however, if you press the shift key and the other key marked with yellow circle, you'll get the divider.

I was just reading about some good software last night for controlling fan speeds, but can't remember what it was (it sucks getting old! lol).

PC wizard, of course monitors processor and drive temps. The T7200 seems to run well within reasonable temps, even when overclocked.

Okay, yeah I've read that the t7200 runs way way cooler even under stress. I do want to look in to overclocking. I tried to catch on to bits a pieces of the way you were doing it, but I'm lost as far as how it is done. I'm so excited for it to get here!!!

Well, setfsb seems like the best one to use. Here is a very simple step by step guide:

    How to use SetFSB

You first find the clock generator (PLL) in the drop down list (ICS954310BGLF), and then click the "get fsb," to find what you're running at. After it shows your speed, just click on the right hand arrow (to increase) above the auto button (it's circled in red in this link). Pressing the arrow will show the increase in the "Select FSB/DDR/PCI-E/PCI Frequency." Increase it a little at a time, and that's about it :)

Thanks VikingDon, they are very interesting read, I'll try them one day and see whether it works for me. I like to get some cheap cpu and try.
    EDIT:
It seems that I need to get T7600G which has unlocked multiplier and I'm not interested in spending that amount of money( £180 in ebay) just for overclocking.

You have to click the "set fsb" button, to see the resulting cpu speed. Once you set it, it shows the new speed in the bottom right corner.

I'm a little confused on this as well. I upgraded to teh T7200 today and am trying to over clock it. When I reboot, it goes back to 2.0GHz. Do you have to start the clocking software with windows or set it in the bios after you find a setting that works nice?

    Thanks

Loco_Colombian... it will start running when you click set fsb. To also answer rankind's question, you don't need to reboot, as the settings will be lost.

There are overclocking software, where the settings can be saved, but apparently not setfsb. I know so little about overclocking, haven't tried anything else (yet). What I have done, is put the setfsb folder, with all the files in my documents folder, and made a shortcut on my screen. After I boot, I just click on it, and set it. It's really less "clicks" then getting into my email, and fine until I use something that will keep the settings.

PS Welcome to the thread rankind :)

O, alright if you say so. It's just that it seems like there really is no change in the frequency, as far as evidence of it because I tried over clocking it and then ran cpuid and it showed it as still running at 2.0ghz. I am also curious about why our bios doesn't allow us to do Oc'ing in the bios. Is there no mods that have included that?

It is changing. CPU-Z is just showing the specification. If you get PC wizard, you can see it go up, along with the temperature as you overclock it. Mine goes from 83C idle to 85C idle when it clock to 2.2GHz. Just need a way to make it a permanent change. The change shows up under CPU-Z under "Clocks" on the CPU tab.

No problem. Ok so you have the same as us. Well unless you've changed the motherboard to the MB.TDX06 then you'll only be able to put up to 2 gb of working ram at a max of 533mhz(pc 4200) preferably in the dual channel for small increase in performance. I don't believe that are laptops can hold anything beyond (pc4200).

If you want to check for yourself go to crucial.com and do the memory test. It's quick you just have to download a tiny software and let it run it.

As far as being able to keep the overclock set and not have to constantly redo it at start up, the only way I can think of would be to find a moded bios for our Acers that allows us to Overclock therefore saving the changes.

Yeah no problem. The upgrade Mobo will allow you get up to 4 gigs of ram and if I'm not wrong, you might even be able to put in faster ram, you'll have to check with vikingdon for that one. The mobos run for about $50-$70 on ebay I'll try and find you a link to them.

:Here's a link to some of them I'm sure if you look you might find better deals then this. Make sure you look at the MB.TDX06 and not the MB.AZL06.003.

Like I said you'd have to check with Vikingdon on that. I think I've read somewhere people have been able to put in 667mhz(pc5300) ram. But don't note me on that. Like I said I'm not sure.

Wow, I haven't logged on in half a day, and look at all the posts.

That is the right mobo rankind. It's dropped $20 to $59 since I bought mine a few months ago.

Here is the RAM I bought for mine:

    Amazon.com: PNY Optima 2 GB DDR2 800 MHz PC26400 Notebook/Laptop SODIMM Memory Module MN2048SD2-800: Electronics

Unfortunately the price has raised a lot since I paid about $25 for it. Look around on ebay, etc, you should be able to get it for about $25 somewhere. If you're going to overclock, you will want the 800MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM (NOT 667MHz PC2-5300). As I have only moderately overclocked so far, and my memory fsb is at nearly 750MHz.

Welcome to the thread cahj1968 :) So you noticed this thread started in Jan 08??? Seems like there's a strange addiction to the 3680 or something... perhaps we're all abnormal. lol

i traded my nephew his 3680-2682 that he wasn't using for an XBOX that i wasnt using.... and immediately started searching for mods.... I was going to turn it into another hackentosh... now I am going to max the pig out and turn it into a media player for the car... that hard drive alone made a big difference... i ordered a 7200 chip from starmicroinc.net for $50.00 and now just ordered a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 mini PCIe P/N: 512AN_MMW for $ 8.00 from ebay... the card in it now drops out all the time..... I cant get the drivers for the touch pad to load anyone else have an issue with that?
